"I can only dream of becoming the chief minister of UP and prime minister of the country in the days to come but can never dream of becoming the president," she told reporters."I have not spent my life in comfort and have struggled to work on the path shown by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram to ensure that their followers and the downtrodden stand on their feet. All know that this work can be done not by becoming the president but by becoming the CM of UP and PM of the country," she said. If Dalits, Adivasis, backwards, Muslims and the poor from the upper castes join forces with the BSP, then not only can they make its leader the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh again but also the prime minister in the time to come, she added.The SP dreaming of making her the president for its 'selfish political motives' is futile, said the former chief minister whose party bagged only one seat in the recent state assembly polls."The reality is that the SP is dreaming of making me the president in order to clear the path (for Akhilesh Yadav) to become the CM of UP, which is not possible," Mayawati said."Despite striking alliances with different parties, the SP has not been able to form the government," she said.Media reports had suggested that the BSP's votes were transferred to the BJP in the February-March state Assembly polls. A report sent by the Uttar Pradesh BJP to the central party leadership on the election also highlighted the shift of the BSP's votes to the saffron party which helped it win with a comfortable margin. Even during the elections, Yadav had pointed towards a 'nexus' between the BJP and the BSP as part of the deal to appoint Mayawati to a higher constitutional post.Mayawati claimed Yadav has realised that the SP will not return to power in Uttar Pradesh in future and is looking to 'flee to a foreign country' where he has already made all the arrangements. This is being openly discussed, she said.She further alleged the SP and the BJP worked together to give the recent elections 'Hindu-Muslim colour' and this brought the saffron party back in power."The weaker sections and especially Muslims are facing continued atrocities and the SP chief is responsible for this. He is still not desisting from spreading rumours. He should give up his childish and disgusting politics," she added.Interestingly, the BSP and the SP had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as alliance partners but parted ways later and have been regularly attacking each other. "Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to contest the Azamgarh with full strength. But, BSP will not contest the bypoll on the Rampur seat because we need to make the party stronger in the seat. The party will certainly contest there in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections," Mayawati said in a statement issued by the party.By fielding Jamali, BSP eying more Muslim votes. Seats fell vacant in Azamgarh and Rampur after Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Azam Khan resigned as MPs from the seats after winning in the 2022 Assembly elections. Akhilesh was elected as an MLA from the Karhal assembly seat while Azam was elected from the Rampur Sadar constituency. In this matter, BJP should also strictly tighten the noose on its people. Only suspending and expelling them will not work, but they should be sent to jail under strict laws."She also mentioned that respect for all religions is necessary for the country.The BJP on Sunday suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma from the party's primary membership and expelled its Delhi media head Naveen Kumar Jindal after their alleged controversial remarks on minorities. While Sharma's comments during a TV debate aimed at the founder of Islam have drawn the ire of Muslim groups, Jindal also posted objectionable tweets, deleted later, and has been accused of often posting inciting comments. Their comments also sparked a Twitter trend calling for boycotting Indian products in some countries.Expelling Jindal, a communication from its Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said, "Your primary membership is immediately terminated and you are expelled from the party." Further, a communication to Sharma from the party's disciplinary committee said she has expressed views contrary to the party's position on various matters, which is in clear violation of its constitution.The Mumbai police registered an FIR against Sharma based on a complaint by Irfan Shaikh, joint secretary of the Mumbai wing of Raza Academy. It stated that Sharma, in a news debate on the Gyanvapi issue, allegedly made controversial comments about Prophet Muhammad. Moreover, Jindal allegedly tweeted against the interests of the country.The BSP chief also stressed that the Kanpur violence case should be thoroughly probed and demanded that innocent people should not be harassed in the matter. "It is very important to get to the bottom of the violence that has happened in Kanpur recently. In some places, the protests turned violent as trains were set ablaze."At a time when the vast population of the country, especially the youth, except a handful of people, is forced to fight tirelessly every day on the path of poverty, inflation, unemployment, stress etc. The recruitment scheme has made many disappointed and frustrated," Mayawati tweeted."It is the result of over-limiting the number and possibilities of recruitment in railways, army and paramilitary forces etc. Youth's anger is boiling, which needs to be handled properly," she added. The Agnipath Scheme has been designed to enable a youthful profile of the Armed Forces.According to the latest announcement by the Ministry, the upper age limit for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) - inclusive of Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), National Security Guard (NSG) and Special Protection Group (SPG) - will stand at 26 years.Meanwhile, the first batch of Agniveers will avail a further relaxation of 5 years beyond the upper age limit of 23, taking it to 28 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;—ANI

Lucknow: When the road is absolutely clear, the weather is favourable and there are no blockades -- big or small -- in sight, the drive is bound to be smooth and uninterrupted.This is exactly what Uttar Pradesh is for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and there is no stopping for the monk-turned-politician.Ever since Adityanath took over as the Chief Minister of UP in March 2017, he made it amply clear that he would not work under any pressure -- whether it is from his own party, or the opposition.Within weeks of taking over as the CM, he ensured that sprawling bungalows allotted to opposition leaders were vacated as per Supreme Court orders.The decision had been put off by previous governments, but Adityanath put his foot down and ousted leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati from their palatial residences, despite the major controversies and mudslinging that followed.His own ministers were told in clear terms that they would also have to toe the line of discipline and this ensured that dissent, if any, did not come out in the open.The Chief Minister's decisions in the past five-and-a-half years have been his own.From banning cow slaughter, setting up anti-Romeo squads, renovation of temples, holding of ?Deepotsav' and development package for Ayodhya, to cracking down on mafia and bulldozing illegal properties that finally turned the bulldozer into a mascot for his government -- all the decisions were taken by Yogi Adityanath alone, and he brokered no ministerial interference.Bureaucrats, for a change, fell in line and ensured prompt implementation of the Chief Minister's orders.During the pandemic also, Adityanath handled the crisis on his own, with his team of loyal bureaucrats ensuring support in implementation. Even the then health minister was kept out of Covid management duties.As Adityanath reiterated his image as a tough administrator, he also underlined his policy of Hindutva at regular intervals. His government's crackdown on senior SP leader Mohd Azam Khan did not even earn a whimper of protest from the opposition and the Samajwadi Party was reduced to the status of a mute spectator.This was the end of political opposition to the ruling BJP in UP.Good governance, mixed with Hindutva, made a heady cocktail and ensured BJP's return to power and also overwhelming praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The poll results also proved that Adityanath's style of functioning has earned the approval of voters and this silences his critics within the party.In political terms, the recent bypolls in Rampur and Azamgarh were the biggest challenge that Adityanath faced after the Assembly triumph earlier this year.Both the constituencies were dominated by Muslims and were also known to be Samajwadi bastions.According to political analysts, the Assembly elections had not only left the opposition completely demoralised, but also wary of Adityanath's style of vengeance.Both Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati did not even campaign for their parties, which further dampened the spirits of their cadres.The result was that the Samajwadi Party lost both its bastions and did not even have an excuse for the loss of seats and face. The Bahujan Samaj Party, after a series of losses, has restricted its presence to the social media while the Congress remains a non-layer in state politics.With opposition presence reduced to an almost invisible position, Yogi Adityanath now remains completely unchallenged in Uttar Pradesh.The road ahead is completely clear for him. —IANS

Lucknow: If indecision is the hallmark of any political party in the present times, it is the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The party which has been on a downslide since the past one decade -- losing seats and votes with an alarming frequency -- remains completely undecided about its political posturing.BSP supremo Mayawati has been juggling with her vote banks with statements that contradict her own words, and this has led to utter confusion in the ranks.She issues statements in favour of minorities and then goes on to field a candidate that will ease the victory of BJP in Azamgarh. She strides on to the stage at a party meeting, holding a trident in hand, and then tweets about secularism in politics. The BSP President shooed away all major Dalit leaders from her party and believed that Brahmins would help her regain the glory of 2007.When that did not happen, Satish Chandra Mishra -- the No. 2 in the party -- has been gradually pushed into oblivion. Mayawati is now left without any 'friends' in UP. She has ridiculed the Congress and attacked the SP -- both her one-time allies. Her own vote bank has shifted substantially to the BJP, but the fear of known and unknown keeps her away from making an aggressive bid to reclaim her base.Mayawati is ploughing a lonely furrow and this is entirely her choice. Her strong sense of insecurity makes her remain within the confines of her ivory tower. She does not meet party leaders, party workers and other political leaders. Her interaction with the outside world is restricted to a tweet a day and her press conferences are a one-to-one affair with a single news agency."Today, when politics has become a 24x7 affair, Mayawati refuses to meet anyone -- not even her own leaders. She has become completely disconnected with ground realities and this is responsible for the party slipping into a non-entity," said a former BSP MLA. A one-time associate of late Kanshi Ram said that Mayawati has frittered away the ideology of her own mentor and has experimented with the upper caste, which demolished all that the BSP stood for. "What makes her think that Dalits will accept a Brahmin as their leader? She has insulted all Dalit leaders, and she now wants the voters to accept her nephew and brother. Mayawati has single-handedly destroyed the legacy of Kanshi Ram, and those who believe in him will never forgive her," he said. A Congress leader, who was earlier in the BSP, said, "Every political leader in the country knows that Mayawati is an unreliable ally and no one wants to strike a friendship with her. Regarding his visit, CM told ANI that this ashram is a spiritual centre in itself.
"It is a centre of energy, a centre of meditation and a centre of yoga. When one visits this centre, one receives inspiration from here and their minds experience tranquilly, fresh ideas, and new directions," he added.
CM said that he constantly comes here whenever he has time.
"I will meet Swamiji and other devotees here and also take guidance from them," he added.
The Chief Minister said that this meditation centre always inspires him and he is going to stay in the ashram tonight. This Advaita Ashram, Mayawati, is a branch of the Ramakrishna Math, which was founded on 19 March 1899 at the behest of Vivekananda, by his disciples James Henry Sevier and Charlotte Sevier. Today it publishes the original writings of Vivekananda. As an ashram dedicated to the study and practice of Advaita Vedanta, no images or idols of Ramakrishna are also worshipped and no paintings were kept in the premises in accordance with the ideals of the ashram set by Vivekananda. —ANI

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati has entrusted her nephew Akash Anand with the task of mobilising the party in the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Akash Anand, who is the party's national coordinator, has been directed to restructure the organisation in these states.
Assembly polls in Gujarat will be held at the end of this year while Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will go to polls in 2023.
According to a party functionary, the assembly polls in these states will serve as a launch pad for Akash Anand who is being positioned as the number two in the BSP.
Mayawati has been grooming her nephew in politics after he returned from London in 2017 where he was pursuing his MBA.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he managed the election campaign strategy of the BSP chief while in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly election campaign, he handled social media activities of the party.
Akash was appointed the BSP's national coordinator in 2019 when Mayawati rejigged the party organisation after breaking alliance with the Samajwadi Party.
He is not a very visible face in the party but has been managing the party affairs from behind the scenes.
He accompanied Mayawati during the election campaign and was also seen with her during election rallies.
Akash has campaigned in MP during the municipal polls there. He addressed public meetings in various districts. In the meeting with party state unit leaders, he instructed them to raise public issues and strengthen the organisation during a membership drive.
In the 2018 polls, the BSP had failed to open its account in Madhya Pradesh though in the 2013 assembly election, it bagged four seats.
At present, Akash is on a tour of Rajasthan and is holding meetings in various districts there. The BSP state unit organisation is being rejigged at the district level to galvanise the party cadre for the assembly election.
The BSP, which had won six seats in the 2018 Rajasthan assembly election, has set focus on Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur, Nagaur, Ganganagar, Barmer, Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts which have large number of Dalit voters.
Mayawati has directed Akash to hold meetings in various districts to collect feedback from the workers and to mobilise the party cadre for election.
"The BSP has also set its focus on Gujarat where the assembly election will be held later this year. Again, Akash is leading the party's fight to make inroads into the Dalit and tribal dominated areas. He has held a series of meetings," the party functionary said. —IANS

Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati alleged on Saturday that the RSS is raising issues related to religious conversion and the population policy to divert people's attention from the failures of the BJP government at the Centre.
She also said the "silence" of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on the present situation in the country is harmful.
"The discordant voice being raised by the RSS now over the new population policy and religious conversion for diverting the attention of the people of the country reeling under the curse of a massive inflation, unemployment, violence and disorder is grossly improper. This is a planned conspiracy to divert the attention from the failures of the BJP government," the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said while addressing a daylong convention of the office-bearers of her party's state unit.
"Actually, this campaign by the RSS is being taken up before the next (2024) Lok Sabha polls as part of a conspiracy to support the BJP and its government and it is very important to make people aware of this," Mayawati was quoted as saying in a release issued by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
She said it is an irony that the RSS supports the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in every election with its "eyes closed", but "never openly opposes its government's wrong and anti-people policies".
"Its silence on the prevailing atmosphere in the country is not only sad but also harmful," the BSP chief said.
Her comments came in the wake of RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale saying religious conversions and illegal migration from Bangladesh are leading to a "population imbalance" in the country.
Addressing reporters after a four-day all-India working committee meeting of the RSS in Prayagraj on Wednesday, Hosabale said the organisation is trying to raise awareness on conversions. He also said the existing laws to prevent religious conversion need to be implemented strictly.
Mayawati, who gave necessary directives to BSP leaders for the upcoming local body polls, also instructed them to work with dedication and honesty for strengthening the party's support base among the "sarv samaj" so that it emerges as the right and worthwhile alternative to the BJP.
"As it is, people are sad as their experience of giving power to the BJP for 'achhe din' (good days) has not been good in any way," she said, adding that instead of paying attention to development and public welfare, governments led by the saffron party appear to be spending their time and resources on anti-poor activities and mere rhetoric.
Hitting out at the Uttar Pradesh government, she said the law-and-order situation in the state is deplorable, there is no rule of law and the high-handedness of the government continues.
Calling upon BSP workers to make people realise that they will get justice and their problems will be resolved only when their own government comes to power in the state, Mayawati said small cadre meetings should be organised in accordance with the traditions of the party.
"There is no need for the BSP to follow other parties who support the rich and their royal styles, which looks like making fun of the unemployed youngsters and the middle class," she added.
The BSP supremo also asked her partymen to celebrate her birthday on January 15 as "Jan Kalyankari Diwas" with simplicity, sincerity and by helping the poor. —PTI

When questioned about the face of a prime minister, the congressman responded: "My current main goal is an united India; we should combat hatred. My only goal is to bring India together."
He added that there are several groups with similar views that seek harmony in India. "I am aware of Akhikeshji and Mayawatiji's desire for peace and harmony in India."
Rahul Gandhi added that "this is not a tactical political battle; the BJP has taken control of the political scene, and in order to defeat them now, an ideological framework is required, which only the Congress can provide."

The yatra will culminate in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, after the ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', which is to culminate in Srinagar on January 26, the Congress is gearing up to launch the 'Haath Se Haath Jodo' campaign, which is aimed at spreading the message of the yatra across the country.
According to sources, the former Congress national president has entrusted sister and AICC national general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra with the responsibility of leading the 'Haath Se Haath Jodo' campaign across the country, with a special focus on women.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said, "After the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Congress will launch a two-month 'Hath Se Hath Jodo Campaign'. As part of this initiative, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will lead foot marches and rallies with women members in every state capital to spread the message of the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'."
Sources further informed that Priyanka will lead a wave of marches with women cadres in March, focussing on rising inflation and its impact on the public, especially the middle class. Other issues related to women will also be a top rallying point.
While the Congress campaign, with Priyanka as its face, is aimed at wooing women voters, who comprise roughly half of the country's population; she will also lead a massive women's rally where she will unveil a separate party manifesto for the opposite sex. —ANI

Mayawati is celebrating her 67th birthday today. On this occasion, Mayawati held a press conference and thanked those who congratulated her on her birthday. Mayawati released the 18th edition of her work - "A Travelogue of My Struggle-ridden Life and BSP Movement" in a programme organized in the party state unit office located in Mall Avenue, Lucknow.
Declaring no alliance for the upcoming elections, the BSP supremo said, "BSP won't align with any parties in the upcoming elections, we will fight polls on our own. Congress and few other parties are trying to ally with us but our ideology is different from other parties."
She also targeted the opposition and said that BSP is being stopped from moving forward.
"BSP has formed the government four times in the state, and the party has worked for the public through welfare schemes for poor and needy people. All opposition parties have maintained internal connivance and have come against BSP. Today, the people of all the classes are upset," said the leader.
The leader asserted that people from all sections are society are joining the party due to efforts made during her leadership.
"BSP is a movement working for the poor, backward people and does not make use of the money power of Dhanna Seths," she added.
Mayawati also raised questions on elections"&gt;EVM elections, said that all future elections should be conducted through ballot paper only.
"Something is wrong with EVM, some are sabotaging it, during ballot paper time, our number of seats and percentage of votes used to increase in all polls. Polls must be conducted with ballot paper again," added Mayawati. —ANI

The Uttar Pradesh legislature’s budget session started on a stormy note on Monday with opposition Samajwadi Party disrupting Governor Anandiben Patel’s address with “Rajyapal wapas jao” slogans.
The governor continued her speech amid the rancorous slogan-shouting, and said the state government is moving on the path of good governance, security and development. An environment of peace and harmony is being ensured with the policy of zero-tolerance towards crime and corruption, she said.
Mayawati said the speech was “overall very disappointing for people”.
“Hon’ble governor’s address today on the first day of the budget session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was a futile attempt by the government to cover up its failures to check inflation, poverty, unemployment, backwardness and disturbed environment troubling the people,” she said in a tweet in Hindi.
In the 403-member assembly, the BSP has only one MLA.
In a separate tweet, Mayawati said, “Except for those in power in UP, contrary to the claims of the government, today every class, society and community is the victim of the narrow and malicious policies and activities of the government.” “The biggest failure of the government is that people are not getting their rights and justice. Hyderabad: Launching a scathing attack on Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has alleged that the former is doing politics in the name of Babasaheb Ambedkar and that he remained tight-lipped when a politician, killing State's IAS officer G Krishnaiah, was freed by Bihar government. Notably, Anand Mohan Singh, a convict in the murder case of the IAS office, was released from Saharsa prison on April 27 this year, after the Nitish Kumar government amended the Bihar Prison Manual 2012 thus allowing the release of 27 convicts including the gangster-turned-politician. "When the person who killed the Telangana IAS officer in Bihar is released by the Bihar government, the Telangana CM is not saying a word," she said while addressing Telangana Bharosa Sabha at Saroor Nagar Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. Mayawati, who is attempting to expand her political footprint in the southern state of Telangana, declared BSP's RS Praveen Kumar, an ex-IPS, as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
