Despite trailing early on, India fought valiantly in the match with Vishnukant Singh (32') reducing the deficit in the third quarter. SV Sunil (53') and Nilam Sanjeep Xess (55') scored a goal each in the final quarter to bring India back in the contest. Razie Rahim (12', 21', 56') starred for Malaysia, scoring a hat-trick in the match. The match started with India pressing deep inside Malaysia's circle with Karthi Selvam and Pawan Rajbhar combining to put pressure on the opposition's defence. India goalkeeper Suraj Karkera made two back-to-back saves after he denied Muhammad Hassan a goalscoring opportunity, and then saving the Penalty Corner. Goalkeeper Pankaj Rajak made a stunning save to deny Malaysia the opportunity to extend their lead as the third quarter came to a close. Early on in the final quarter, Pawan Rajbhar showcased individual brilliance to break through Malaysia's midfield and he passed the ball to SV Sunil inside the circle. The veteran converted the goal from an acute angle as India levelled the score to 2-2. Minutes later, Nilam Sanjeep Xess scored from a Penalty Corner as India took a 3-2 lead in the match.But India conceded another PC a minute later, and Razie Rahim made the most of the opportunity to level the scoreline once again. India made threatening runs inside the circle, but Japan held their nerves till the final whistle and the match ended in a draw. India are currently placed in the second position in the Super 4s Pool table of Asia Cup 2022 with 4 points, after having beaten Japan 2-1 in their first Super 4s game on Saturday. The team, with experienced players, recovered well in time to put up a grand fight against the Malaysian unit who looked poised to win the title race, not having lost a single match in the tournament.After a goalless first quarter, Korea put Malaysia under the pump with a splendid field goal in the 17th minute. New Delhi (The Hawk): A contingent of the Indian Air Force left for Malaysia today to participate in a bilateral exercise named 'Udarashakti'.&nbsp;
Indian Air Force is participating in the air exercise with Su-30 MKI and C-17 aircraft while the RMAF will be flying Su 30 MKM aircraft. The Indian contingent departed from one of its air bases directly for their destination, the RMAF base of Kuantan.&nbsp;
The exercise will give an opportunity to IAF contingent members to share and learn best practices with some of the best professionals from RMAF, while also discussing mutual combat capabilities.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The four days of exercise will witness conduct of various aerial combat drills between the two Air Forces. Ex Udarashakti will fortify the long standing bond of friendship and enhance the avenues of defence cooperation between the two Air Forces, thereby augmenting security in the region.

New Delhi (The Hawk): The Garhwal Rifle Regiment of the Indian Army has sent a contingent to Malaysia to take part in a joint military exercise where the two sides would exchange military experience in conducting operations in jungle environments.
The "Harimau Shakti-2022" began at Pulai, Kluang, on Monday, and is expected to end on December 12, according to a representative of the Defense Ministry.
According to a representative of the ministry, Harimau Shakti has been held annually since 2012.
The exercise will increase the level of defence cooperation between the Malaysian and Indian armies, which will in turn strengthen their bilateral ties.
According to the Defence Ministry, in addition to logistics planning at the battalion level, the exercise's schedule includes the establishment of a joint command post, a surveillance centre, sharing of expertise in the employment of aerial assets, technical demonstrations, casualty management, and casualty evacuation.
The culmination of joint field training exercises, combat debates, and demonstrations will be a two-day validation exercise with a focus on improving tactical skills, increasing interoperability between the forces, and fostering relationships between the Armies.
The Indian Army announced that soldiers from the Royal Malay Regiment and the Garhwal Rifle Regiment, both of which have combat experience, will also share lessons learned from operations to improve interoperability in the planning and execution of diverse operations in jungle terrain.
According to the Army, the scope of this exercise includes a command planning exercise at the battalion level and a field training exercise at the company level on unconventional operations in jungle terrain.

Kuala Lumpur: The death toll following a landslide at a campsite in Batang Kali has risen to 23, while 10 people are still missing on Saturday, reported CNN.
The authorities have identified six bodies so far, state media agency Bernama reported, citing Malaysia's National Disaster Management Agency.
The landslide in Batang Kali in Selangor state, north of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, occurred in the early hours local time Friday, tearing down a hillside into an organic farm with camping facilities, the state fire and rescue department said.
Teh Lynn Xuan, 22, said she was camping with 40 others when the landslide struck. She said one of her brothers died, while another is in the hospital, reported CNN.
"I heard a loud sound like thunder, but it was the rocks falling," she told Malay-language daily Berita Haria.
"We felt the tents becoming unstable and soil was falling around us. Luckily, I was able to leave the tent and go to someplace safer. My mother and I managed to crawl out and save ourselves." More than 90 people were caught in the landslide, according to the fire and rescue department. The bodies of a woman and a child, believed to have been buried alive by the landslide at a campsite, were found hugging each other, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis told Bernama on Friday.
In addition to the dead, 14 were hospitalized, it said.
One of those taken to the hospital was pregnant, while others had injuries ranging from minor cuts to a suspected spinal injury, health minister Zaliha Mustafa told a news conference.
District police chief Suffian Abdullah said the dead were all Malaysians and included a child about 5 years old.
Almost 400 people from several agencies had been deployed, with search-and-rescue efforts ongoing, he told a news conference.
The landslide came down from an estimated height of 30 metres (100 ft) above the campsite, and covered an area of about one acre (0.4 hectare), according to the fire and rescue department's state director.
Footage from local television showed the aftermath of a large landslide through a steep, forested area beside a road, while other images on social media showed rescue workers clambering over thick mud, large trees and other debris, reported CNN. The disaster struck about 50 km (30 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur in Batang Kali town, just outside the popular hilltop area of Genting Highlands, an area known for its resorts, waterfalls and natural beauty.
News agency Bernama tweeted that all campsites and water recreation areas around Batang Kali had been ordered to close immediately until further notice, citing the minister of home affairs. The region is in its rainy season but no heavy rain or earthquakes were recorded overnight. —ANI

London: A 71-year-old Indian-origin businessman has been jailed for more than five years in the UK for forging his mother's will to inherit a 40 million-pound share of the family's palm oil plantation in Malaysia.

Girish Dahyabhai Patel from Highgate, north London, was sentenced for five-and-a-half years at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday after being privately prosecuted by his nephew, the Daily Mail reported.

Before this, Girish was jailed for a year in 2017 after his brother Yashwant claimed in court that he had used a blank sheet of paper with the deceased mother's signature and printed a document around it claiming she had left him a 40 million-pound stake in the family's 160-million-pound plantation.

The court found the document to be forged, and the inheritance went to Yashwant, a doctor in the US.

Girish had also lied under oath in a probate claim in the High Court and encouraged witnesses to give false evidence about the will, which was found to be worth 39.95 million pounds, or USD 50 million.

The mother, Prabhavati Dahyabhai Patel, had left her entire fortune for elder son Yashwant Patel after her death in 2011, according to the news report.

Girish was one of four brothers involved in the family's business interests, spread around countries, including in England, the US, Malaysia, Australia and Singapore.

The Southwark Crown Court also disqualified Girish from being a director for 10 years after pleading guilty to counts of fraud, forgery, perverting the course of justice and perjury between 2013 and 2015.

"Not only has there been a very serious impact on your family. You have lost your reputation, your status, your ability to carry on business and your wealth and income," Judge Marc Dight was quoted as saying in Daily Mail.

The court also heard that Girish's family has spent about 4.5 million pounds in litigation responding to his attempts to gain control of various family assets.

The fraud charge relates to Girish's attempts to take charge of a UK company, Barrowfen Properties, which held a single commercial property in Tooting, south London.

He removed his younger brother as a director of the firm before forging his resignation letter.

Mark Cotter KC, defending, said Girish had "dedicated his life" to his family, his children and the development of "an extremely successful global business". IANS

In the women's singles, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu registered a hard-fought 21-13, 17-21, 21-18 win over Denmark's Line Christophersen in the round of 32 of the BWF Super 500 event.
The 27-year-old Indian will face world No. 28 Aya Ohori of Japan in the round of 16 on Thursday. Sindhu took her time to settle into the match and went into the break, leading 11-8 but soon built on it to win the first game convincingly. Both the shuttlers fought hard to have the upper hand in the second game as Christophersen executed the drop shots well to trouble Sindhu after the scores were tied at 17-17 and took the match into the decider.
After taking an early lead in the decider, Sindhu found herself in a bit of trouble, trailing 13-16. She then dug deep to level the scores and used her experience to defeat Christophersen in a match lasting one hour and two minutes.
In the other women's singles contest, Aakarshi Kashyap lost 17-21, 12-21 to reigning world champion and world No. 1 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. On the other hand, Ashmita Chaliha suffered a 17-21, 7-21 defeat at the hands of world No. 9 Han Yue of China.
In the men's singles, former world championships silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth, got the better of world No. 28 Frenchman Toma Junior Popov 21-12, 21-16.
Meanwhile, world No. 40 Malvika Bansod will be up against world No. 8 Wang Zhi Yi in women's singles while India's top-ranked player and world No. 9 HS Prannoy and Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Lakshya Sen will take the court in men's singles, later in the day.

Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters 2023 badminton championships with contrasting wins in their respective Round of 16 encounters in women's and men's singles respectively, here on Thursday.

Prannoy, ranked 9th in the latest BWF Rankings, continued his brilliant run in the BWF World Tour Super 500 event in the Malaysian capital, stunning All England champion Li Shifeng of China with a superb come-from-behind victory in three games on Court 1 at Axiata Arena here.

Prannoy, who had started his campaign here with a hard-fought 16-21, 21-14, 21-13 win against sixth-seeded Hou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei on Wednesday, defeated his Chinese opponent 13-21, 21-16, 21-11 in Round of 16. He will face Japan's Kenta Nishimoto in a last-8 encounter on Friday.

In the same men's singles, Kidambi Srikanth, who won the silver medal in the 2021 World Championship, stunned Thailand's eighth seed, Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-19, 21-19 in a 45-minute clash in the men's singles Round of 16.

Double Olympic medallist Sindhu, the sixth seed here, had it a bit easy in the women's singles pre-quarterfinals clash as she comfortably got the better of Aya Ohori of Japan 21-16, 21-11 in 40 minutes.

Sindhu, who won a silver at Rio Olympics in 2016 and followed that up with a bronze in Tokyo 2020, will lock horns with China's Zhang Yi Man to book a spot in the semifinals.

However, former World Championship bronze medallist Lakshya Sen was sent packing in the pre-quarterfinals by Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus, the 28-year-old ranked 14th in the BWF Rankings. Lakhsya, who is ranked 22 in the latest singles rankings, went down 21-14, 21-19.

The day belonged to Prannoy, who caused a major upset by getting the better of the reigning All-England champion. Prannoy, who helped India win the Thomas Cup title last year, lost the first game to the in-from Chinese star, who surged ahead from an early 4-2 lead to open a 9-2 gap. The Chinese player maintained a 4-5 points advantage as he went on to win the first game 21-13.

The second game was closely fought and after Prannoy and Li Shifeng exchanged the lead twice, the Indian opened up a 6-3 lead. The Chinese shuttler narrowed the gap to one point before Prannoy won a few points in succession to make it 11-7. But Shifeng tied the scores at 11-all before Prannoy grabbed the lead again at 14-13 before making it 18-13 and went on to win the game and take the match into the decider.

In the third game, after the initial skirmishes, the 30-year-old Indian right-hander opened a gap from 4-4 to 8-5 before winning eight consecutive points to make it 16-5. Shifeng could not recover from that and he narrowed the gap to 16-9, Prannoy went on to win the game 21-11 and sealed a memorable win in the 70 minutes encounter.

Kuala Lumpur: Chinese shuttlers won three quarterfinal matches on day 4 of the Malaysia Masters.  In the men's singles, China's Weng Hongyang kept his winning streak, beating Angus Ng Ka Long 23-21, 14-21, 21-14 to enter the semifinals, reports Xinhua.  In the women's singles, China's Han Yue outclassed Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan 22-20, 21-9, but her compatriots Wang Zhiyi and Zhang Yiman were eliminated.  India's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung upset Wang 21-11, 21-14, and PV Sindhu, also from India, edged Zhang 21-16, 13-21, 22-20.  In the mixed doubles, China's Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping overcame Japan's Yamashita Kyohei and Shinoya Naru 22-20, 11-21, 21-17.  Yet, it wasn't a clean sweep for Chinese shuttlers, as Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai overpowered Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin 21-8, 21-17.  The Malaysia Masters runs from May 23 to 28 at the Axiata Arena. —IANS

Kuala Lumpur: Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, during his Malaysia visit, jointly inaugurated the first-ever PIO Malaysia Event organised by GOPIO Malaysia together with the Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia on Friday.
He also delivered a key-note address at the inaugural session of an International Conference titled 'India-ASEAN Dynamics in the Emerging Indo-Pacific Order: Pathways to Cooperation beyond the Third Decade', organised by the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with the Centre for ASEAN Regionalism University Malaya (CARUM) and Asia Europe Institute (AEI).
Muraleedharan is exploring new avenues of collaboration with the Southeast Asian country towards realising the Enhanced Strategic Partnership which was established during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malaysia in 2015.
During the visit, MoS held bilateral meetings with Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Ramkarpal Singh, Deputy Minister of Prime Minister's Department (Parliamentary Affairs) and Senator Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and held discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Muraleedharan also called on YB V Sivakumar, Minister of Human Resources of Malaysia and thanked the Malaysian government for opening all sectors to Indian workers at par with other foreign workers in Malaysia. Both sides discussed issues of interest on labour matters and agreed to expedite the early signing of the bilateral MoU on recruitment, employment and repatriation of workers.
The MoS also held interactions with prominent political leaders, a wide spectrum of Indian diaspora associations, captains of industry, and cultural associations at the Indian Community Reception. He held interactions with business leaders at a luncheon meeting hosted by the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM) and Malaysia India Business Council. He also interacted with a group of Indian workers in Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur: Defence Minister Rajanth Singh received a rousing welcome from the Indian diaspora in Kuala Lumpur with chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram" echoing the skies. He is on a three-day official visit to Malaysia from Sunday to deepen the defence cooperation between the two countries.   The members of the Indian diaspora were seen chanting slogans and waving the tricolour upon Singh's arrival in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Defence Minister also greeted the people with 'namaste' and shook hands with them. Earlier on Sunday, the office of the Defence Ministry wrote, "Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh reached Kuala Lumpur on a three-day official visit to Malaysia. @hcikl"  Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Malaysian counterpart Dato' Seri Mohamad Hasan will exchange views on regional and global issues of shared interest. Singh will also call on Malaysia's Prime Minister YB Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim. "India and Malaysia have a common interest in peace and prosperity of the entire region. The two democracies have a robust and multifaceted relationship which has expanded into several strategic areas, including defence and security," the Ministry of Defence statement said in a statement. Both countries are committed to working under the vision of the enhanced strategic partnership established during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Malaysia in 2015, the statement said. India and Malaysia share deep and warm relations. Recently in April, India and Malaysia agreed to settle trade in the Indian rupees, the Ministry of External Affairs announced. The announcement came against the backdrop of ongoing official efforts to Safeguard Indian trade from the impact of the Ukraine crisis. Earlier, this June, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan met with Malaysia's Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar and they agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on opening all sectors to Indian workers in Malaysia. Taking to Twitter, Muraleedharan stated, "Glad to meet Hon'ble Minister of Human Resources Malaysia H.E. @Sivatronoh in Kuala Lumpur Thanked the Minister &amp; Malaysian government for opening all sectors to Indian workers at par with other foreign workers in Malaysia. A determined Indian men's hockey team executed its game plan well to climb up the points table. Playing in front of a packed home crowd, the hosts lived up to the billing, producing an exciting brand of hockey from hooter to hooter.

Asian Champions Trophy 2023: Harmanpreet Scores His 150th Goal, India Thrash Malaysia 5-0

New Delhi: The Indian senior men's football team have been drawn against hosts Malaysia in the semi-final of the Merdeka Tournament 2023 after the draw ceremony was held by FA Malaysia on Tuesday. The match will take place at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on October 13. Palestine were drawn against Lebanon in the other semi-final, which will take place earlier on the same day. It will be India's record 32nd meeting with Malaysia in international matches, with the last one coming in a friendly in Kolkata back in 2011, where the Blue Tigers emerged 3-2 winners. As per AIFF media release, the Merdeka Tournament 2023 will mark India's first appearance in the competition since 2001 and 18th overall. India's best performance was runners-up in 1959 and 1964. The winners of the semi-final will clash in the final on October 17. Chennai: India won the Asian Champions Trophy hockey competition for the fourth time on Saturday with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Malaysia in the final.
The Indians struggled to contain Malaysia's aggressive play in the opening half.
In the ninth minute, India scored the first PC when Jugraj scored with a powerful flick to the right of the Malaysian custodian.
After a slow beginning, the Indians found their rhythm and played full-press hockey for the rest of the contest.
In spite of this, Malaysia kept pushing the envelope and challenging India's defences. In the 14th minute, their hard work paid off as Abu Kamal Azari scored off an assist from Azuan Hasan on the right wing.
India had two penalty corners in the opening seconds of the first quarter but failed to capitalise on each opportunity.
With their second-quarter momentum intact, Malaysia earned two penalty corners in the 18th minute, the second of which was converted by Razie Rahim thanks to a deflection off the stick of rusher Amit Rohidas.
Malaysia was awarded a penalty corner in the 23rd minute after Jugraj committed an unnecessary stick check, but their shot missed the goal.
At the 28-minute mark, Malaysia was awarded another penalty corner, and this time Muhamad Aminudin made no mistakes in putting his team up 3-1.
In the 43rd minute, Malaysia was awarded another penalty corner, but India's defence held firm.
Within a minute, the Indians had tied the game at three apiece with two quick goals.
India's captain Harmanpreet Singh tied the game 3-3 with a penalty shot in the 45th minute, and seconds later, Gurjant Singh tied it up from the pitch.
Six minutes before the final horn, India earned a penalty corner, but the opposing custodian blocked Harmanpreet's flick.
India maintained their offensive assault and got another penalty corner shortly, but Harmanpreet's shot missed the post.

India made an attacking start to their first match with fast-paced set-play, scoring in the third minute through Captain Navjot Kaur (3'). Malaysia equalised four minutes before halftime thanks to Aziz Zafirah's (11') flawless conversion of the Challenge Goal. However, India quickly counterattacked and took the lead through Monika Dipi Toppo (12'). At the end of the first half, India were leading Malaysia by 3-2.&nbsp;
A quick start to the second half saw India score their fourth goal in the 17th minute through Mariana Kujur, who made a run from the right flank, beating Malaysian defenders to find the back of the net. In the 28th minute, Mahima Choudhary made it 6-2 for India. With two minutes remaining, Captain Navjot Kaur found the back of the net for the second time. The game ended with the Indian Women’s Hockey Team winning 7-2.&nbsp;

Salalah: The Indian men's team overcame Malaysia 7-5 and then scripted a stunning 35-1 win over Japan on Thursday, the twin wins helping it to storm into the semifinals at the Men's Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier here. In the second game of the day, Maninder Singh slammed in 10 goals as India thrashed Japan after starting the day with a narrow 7-5 win over Malaysia in a thrilling encounter.  Maninder Singh scored in 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 15th, 20th, 24th, 25th and 29th minutes of the match. Mohammed Raheel (3', 4', 11', 12', 17', 26, 26'), Pawan Rajbhar (2', 6', 10', 13', 23'), Gurjot Singh (12', 20', 21', 27', 30'), Sukhvinder (4', 8', 16', 22'), captain Mandeep Mor (18', 23', 29'), and Jugraj Singh (15') were on target for India. For Japan, Masataka Kobori (29') scored the lone consolation in the match. It was a fiery start from India as seven goals were struck by the side led by Mandeep Mor within five minutes. Maninder Singh (1', 3', 5'), Pawan Rajbhar (2'), Mohammed Raheel (3', 4'), and Sukhvinder (4') found the back of the net to help India take a 7-0 lead early on.  The goal-fest continued with Maninder Singh (6') and Pawan Rajbhar (6') scoring in the next minute to add two more goals to India's tally, while Sukhvinder (8') also scored his second goal of the match to help his side take a 10-0 lead.  Japan's defence was stunned early on and found no answers to the Indian attackers with Maninder Singh (9') adding another goal for India, along with Pawan Rajbhar (10').  Mohammed Raheel (11', 12') found the net twice while Gurjot Singh (12') added his name to the scoresheet as well. With Gurjot Singh (7', 11', 17', 29' 30') scoring five goals, and Maninder Singh (12'), and Mohammed Raheel (21') getting a goal each, India won the match 7-5.  Malaysia saw goals from Arif Ishak (6'), captain Ismail Abu (7'), Muhamad Din (8'), Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin (26'), and Syarman Mat (30+'). The match started on a cagey note with both the teams playing cautiously in the early minutes of the match.  The hold was broken by Arif Ishak (6'), and Ismail Abu (7') scoring back-to-back goals for Malaysia, Immediately afterwards, Gurjot Singh (7') pulled one goal back for India. Muhamad Din (8') scored the goal in the next minute, but Gurjot Singh (11'), and Maninder Singh (12') scored late and the match went into halftime with the scores levelled at 3-3. In the second half, Gurjot Singh (17') found the back of the net to put India with a powerful stroke in the lead for the first time in the match.  Malaysia found themselves on the back foot and Mohammed Raheel (21') made the most of the troubled defence, scoring another goal for India. Kama-rulzaman Kamaruddin (26') managed to pull a goal back for Malaysia, but quick goals from Gurjot Singh (29', 30') decided the fate of the match. Syarman Mat (30+') scored a goal in the injury time, but it was not enough to change the result and India won 7-5. With two big wins on the day, India managed to finish in the second position in the Elite pool table with 12 points and earned a direct qualification for the semifinals.
