Chennai (The Hawk): In anticipation of the Jayanti celebrations of Muthumaralinga Thevar, the respected head of the Thevar community, approximately 10,000 policemen under the command of top police officers were deployed on Sunday in five districts.

In the districts of Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, and Sivaganga, where the influential Thevar community is highly concentrated, police officers are on duty.

The insult directed at Panneerselvam after his expulsion from the party at its general council meeting on July 11 was not taken lightly by the Thevar community.
The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary, TTV Dhinakaran, and her nephew, V.K. Sasikala, the former interim general secretary of the AIADMK, were also anticipated in Pasumpon village. According to Thevar insiders, the Muthuramalinga Thevar's jayanti celebrations will be a demonstration of the community's resolve to the political establishment.
Thevar Jayanti celebrations will bring together almost all senior DMK, AIADMK, BJP, and Congress leaders. This is because the community in the five southern Tamil Nadu districts wields significant influence, and it is crucial in electoral politics to be on the right side of strong community leadership.
Asra Garg, the South Zone Inspector General, will be in charge of the 34 SPs and four DIGs who will be deployed across the five districts. In order to control the crowds, 95 CCTV cameras have been placed around the districts, and 14 drones have also been used.

After several kids passed out in the bus, the police would lodge a FIR against the Yadhava Girls Higher Secondary School, Nallamani administration in Madurai. The school made mistakes, according to a joint inspection conducted by district education department officials, police, and RTO on Thursday.
The vehicle was crowded, according to the school administration, who also informed the inspection officials that the other bus wasn't in operation because of some mechanical issues.
The notice regarding the matter will also be delivered to the school by the district educational officer. RTO authorities told the media that the same school's two buses had previously been impounded for lack of fitness certificates.
In Tamil Nadu, a number of government and government-aided schools operated buses despite without the necessary fitness or maintenance certificates.
Speaking to IANS, Madurai-based think tank Socio Economic Development Foundation Director Swaminathan R., an expert in education, stated, "We are undertaking a thorough investigation of the government and private school bus fleets in Tamil Nadu and will publish a paper on the subject. Our initial observations indicate that the schools do a poor job of keeping their buses, and that many of them lack valid fitness certificates."

Chennai: On Saturday, a fire broke out in a passenger train's coach at the Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu, killing at least 9 people and injuring 20 more.
According to IANS cites from railway authorities, the incident occurred early Saturday morning on the Lucknow-Rameswaram Express.
The six victims were from Uttar Pradesh and had been on a pilgrimage to Rameswaram, according to the sources.
There were a total of 55 people in the damaged coach, which was attached at Nagercoil on Friday.
The blast of a gas cylinder, which was illegally smuggled inside the coach for cooking purposes, caused the fire, the sources told IANS.
Meanwhile, four of the 20 injured are reportedly in critical condition.
The mishap occurred when thetrain was stationed at a yard, 1 km out of the Madurai railway station and passengers were about to leave for the Meenakshi temple for darshan.
The local fire department was dispatched to the scene, where they quickly extinguished the blaze.
Many people had already alighted when the train had reached the Madurai railway station.
The injured have been transported to local hospitals, according to Madurai District Collector Sangeetha, who spoke to the media about the situation.

An ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased, Southern Railway announced today. A “private party coach” was attached at Nagercoil Junction on August 25 by Train number 16730, the Punalur-Madurai Express, which began its journey from Lucknow on August 17 and had arrived at Madurai at 3.47 am today. The “party coach” was detached and kept at the Madurai Stabling line where the fire broke out at 5.15 am, according to a statement by Southern Railway. According to the Southern Railway, the fire was triggered by an “illegally smuggled gas cylinder.” "Today early morning at 5:30 am there was a fire accident in a coach which was halted at the Madurai railway station...They were pilgrims and were travelling from Uttar Pradesh,” MS Sangeetha, Madurai District Collector said.
“This morning when they tried to make coffee and tried to light the gas stove, there was a cylinder blast. A total of 55 people have been rescued and as of now, we have retrieved nine bodies... Rescue operation is underway...," Madurai District Collector said.
B Guganesan, Chief Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway in an official statement said the fire broke out at 5. 15 am in a private party coach at the Madurai yard and fire service which was informed arrived by 5.45 am and the blaze was put out by 7.15 am.
There was no damage to any other coaches.
According to the release by the Railways, “the passengers in the private party coach have illegally smuggled gas cylinder and this caused the fire. Many passengers had got out of the coach on noticing fire. Some passengers had got down at platform itself.”
The “party coach” was scheduled to return to Chennai tomorrow by Train Number 16824, the Kollam-Chennai Egmore Ananthapuri Express and then return to Lucknow from there.
According to the Railways, any individual can book party coach using the IRCTC portal. They are not allowed to carry any inflammable material like gas cylinder. The coach is to used only for transportation purposes. Several senior officials like the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM), and other divisional officer have reached the site of the mishap.

Chennai: Five men were arrested on Monday by Government Railway Police in connection with the fire accident in a tourist coach stabled in Madurai railway junction yard on Saturday morning.  The arrested persons have been identified as Sathyaprakash, Narendra, Kardish Sakhani, Deepak and Sukum Kashyap.  A case against them has been booked under Sections 302, 304, 285 of IPC and 164 of IR Act. They will be produced before Judicial Magistrate and remanded,sources said.  Earlier, the Commissioner of Railway Safety conducted inquiry with two persons.

Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Wednesday claimed that Tamil Nadu has recorded 40 murders since September, 2023, proving that law and order situation in the state has failed.
In a statement, EPS said that the state police have "failed" miserably to extend security arrangements even to Oscar award winning musician A.R. Rahman during his concert in Chennai recently.
He said that even Chief Minister M. K. Stalin's convoy was caught in the traffic block during Rahman's concert in the East Coast Road.
The former chief minister said that the AIADMK's mega rally and conference at Madurai was attended by nearly 15 lakh functionaries including cadres and leaders. He said that police "failed" to provide proper security to the event even after making proper written request for it much in advance.
He said that on September 12, a gang wielding weapons attacked three men who were returning home in Coimbatore after attending a court case. He said that the three are grievously injured and being treated in a hospital at Coimbatore.
"While the police force was functioning in a free and fair manner during the regime of AIADMK, at present, the Tamil Nadu police was acting according to the wishes of the ruling DMK," EPS claimed.

As Tamil Nadu Information Technology Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan along with Minister P Moorthy and District Collector M S Sangeetha inaugurated the program, people tried to rush to the front, she said. "Shortly after, the stage barricade collapsed and injured several people. Some people got suffocated and some were left unconscious in the incident," she added.

Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India]: Large number of people flocked to the street in Madurai to take part in the Margazhi Ashtami Chariot Festival celebrated at Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai on Thursday. Devotees celebrated the grand event with the blowing of conches and the banging of drums. Policemen, in large numbers, were deployed to control the crowd. The entire city echoed with the cheers of lord Meenakshi Amman.
The festival is celebrated in the month of Margasheersha, known as Margazhi in Tamil. As per the Hindu tradition, the month of Markasheersha is considered auspicious for one's spiritual development which can be attained through dedication to Shiva, Shakti, Vishnu and others by meditation and fasting. Idols of lord Meenakshi Amman and Sundareswarar will stroll through the outer streets in a chariot. Women will pull the chariot which is the major highlight of the festival.
