Chandigarh: The body of a Haryanvi singer, who was missing since May 11, was found buried in Haryana's Meham, the police said on Tuesday, adding that two people were arrested in connection with the murder. Sangeeta alias Divya had gone missing on May 11, and her family living in Delhi's Jaffarpur Kalan area reported it on May 14, they said.The police said a case was initially registered under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of IPC at JP Kalan police station in New Delhi. During investigation, two people, Ravi and Anil, were arrested in Meham on Saturday who disclosed that they had hatched a conspiracy to kill the singer, a senior police officer said.The body was subsequently found on Sunday, and murder charges were added to the case, he said.The police said preliminary investigation revealed that the incident took place over strained relationship with the accused.The accused had contacted the singer on the pretext of making a music video. One of them picked her up from Delhi, drugged her and then killed her. Later, they buried the body in the Meham police station area, deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Shankar Choudhary said.Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi Police in connection with the incident. In the notice, the commission demanded FIR copy and details of the accused persons by Friday.“This is in reference to the proceedings of the DCW regarding kidnapping and murder of a lady singer. The Commission has been informed that the lady was missing since May 11. In this regard a missing complaint was lodged at PS Jaffarpur, Delhi by her family. It is learnt that the body of the lady has been found on May 22 from Meham, Rohtak, Haryana," said the notice.“In view of the above, please provide copy of FIR registered in the matter, details of accused arrested, copy of post-mortem report of the victim and copy of missing complaint lodged by the family of the victim, along with action taken thereon,” the notice stated.The notice also asked the detailed action taken report in the matter.Police said the woman's body was handed over to her family members after a post-mortem examination.However, her relatives, along with some local leaders of the Bhim Army and other parties, brought the body to the JP Kalan police station and staged a protest alleging that the victim was gang-raped, they said. However, police said there is no evidence of rape so far.The accused used to be friends with the woman who had filed a rape case against Ravi earlier, the police said.According to police, the investigation is underway and action will be taken against the personnel if any lapse is found in the probe.—PTI

On May 26, Nathupur police chowki received information that Bhadra died due to injuries caused by falling from the stairs inside his house."Bhadra's wife said that she had gone to a shopping mall with her sister-in-law and nephew when she got a call informing her that her husband fell from stairs and had been admitted to Neelkanth Hospital, where he died during treatment," police said .The post-mortem was conducted by the board of doctors and the body was handed over to the relatives.The post-mortem report revealed that the death was caused due to nine injuries on his head. Subsequently, an FIR under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.After thorough investigation, police arrested Bhadra's brother-in-law Suraj Rai and mother-in-law Malti Rai who confessed to their roles.They disclosed that Suraj used to invest money in the stock market, and he had suffered a loss and this lead to an argument with Bhadra."Suraj killed Shubhankar by hitting iron rod on his head. After killing him, Suraj and his mother Malti tried to mislead police and his family members. They cooked up a story that the Bhadra died due to injuries after falling from the stairs," said Preet Pal Singh Sangwan, ACP (Crime).The iron rod used in the crime has also been recovered, the ACP added.—PTI

New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a person from Punjab who used to dupe people by collecting money from them on the pretext of installing a mobile tower at their premises, an official said on Saturday. In an unconventional modus operandi, the accused used to get the entire amount of money — after cheating the people, transferred to the bank account of a beggar.Deputy Commissioner of Police (east district) Priyanka Kashyap said one person had reported at Cyber Police Station, East District that he read an advertisement in a newspaper regarding the Galaxy Tower Enterprises in which they claimed to deal with the installation of mobile towers. When the complainant contacted, the accused lured him by telling the benefits of having a tower at his place and subsequently the complainant agreed to their terms and transferred a sum of Rs 62,450 in four transactions as a processing fee to install the tower. When the fraudster demanded more money, the complainant realised that he had been cheated and lodged a complaint at Cyber police station.During the probe, the police with the help of technical evidence, found that the bank account as well as the mobile number belonged to one Kuldeep Kumar, a resident of Sangrur, Punjab.When the police team reached Sangrur, they found out that Kuldeep was a beggar and was not aware about the incident. He told the police about the prime accused Binder Kumar who had opened his bank account. The police then conducted another raid and Binder was apprehended. The accused disclosed that he had single-handedly committed this fraud since March 2022. A notebook was also recovered from his possession wherein several entries were found of the callers and the money received from them. A total of Rs 1,90,000 have been credited in the bank account during this period.—IANS

Bettiah:&nbsp;In a grim incident similar to the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape case, a minor girl was allegedly raped inside a bus by three persons in the Bettiah city of Bihar's West Champaran district on Wednesday, police said. According to the preliminary report, the victim was found on the bus in a semi-conscious state. Police also recorded the victim's statement in which she alleged that the driver and his accomplice offered her a cold drink which contained a pill. After consuming the cold drink, it made her unconscious and the accused gang-raped the minor girl, according to police citing the victim's statement. "Three people were accused of allegedly raping a minor girl inside a bus in Bettiah, West Champaran district. The girl was found on the bus in a semi-conscious state," Mukul Pandey, Bettiah Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) told ANI.Out of the three accused, two persons have been arrested by the police in connection with the rape case. "The bus has been seized, the driver and helper of the bus have been arrested," Pandey added. Further, police sent the girl for medical examination and the two arrested accused are being interrogated. In the 2012 gangrape case, a 23-year-old physiotherapy student was gang-raped and brutally assaulted in New Delhi. She later succumbed to her injuries, igniting widespread outrage and protests across the country. Six people were involved in the case. The main accused, Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail during the trial. Another accused was a minor at the time of the commission of the crime and was sent to a reform facility and released after three years. While four convicts in the case-- Vinay, Akshay, Pawan, and Mukesh were convicted and sentenced to death for the crime.—ANI

Kanpur: A group of four youths have been arrested for allegedly molesting a teenager and trying to abduct her in a car in the Chakeri police area.The incident happened on Thursday evening. Hearing the screams of the victim, passers-by managed to stop the car and nabbed the accused.After severe beating, they were handed over to the police.According to the father of the teenager, his 16-year-old daughter is pursuing intermediate at a local college."She had left home to go to the gym. Four youths in the car stopped her near the gym and molested her. On protesting, the accused forcibly made her sit in the car and tried to flee. On raising cries, the passers-by and the local people somehow stopped the car and alerted the police after thrashing the accused," he said.When the police reached the spot and interrogated the accused, they identified themselves as Akash Dwivedi, Aman Dwivedi, Anubhav Tiwari and Piyush Dixit, he added.Chakeri police station in-charge Shailendra Singh said the accused are being interrogated. Sangma of political vendetta.Acting on a tip off, a huge police contingent, led by senior officials, conducted an eight-hour-long raid at Rimpu Bagan, a farmhouse owned by militant-turned-politician Marak alias Rimpu, in West Garo Hills district.West Garo Hills district police chief Vivekanand Singh said that police rescued five minors -- four boys and one girl -- who were found locked inside dingy cabin-like unhygienic rooms at Rimpu Bagan, comprising 30 rooms.All these children were handed over to the District Child Protection Officer for safe custody and further necessary action as per law, he said. The police official said that the complex was suspected to be the place where a minor girl was sexually assaulted."The police team also noticed many young boys and girls openly drinking in the premises, inside the rooms as well as inside vehicles. Some of them were sitting inside the vehicle without clothes or with very less clothes. Accordingly, the search team detained 68 boys and girls," a police statement said.It said that some managed to run away taking advantage of darkness and by running over crushed liquor bottles.The police also arrested the manager, caretaker and other three staff and 36 vehicles, 47 mobile phones, 1,68,268 ml liquor, 500 unused contraceptives (condoms) and other incriminating materials were seized."From the materials recovered at Rimpu Bagan complex, it appears that the place was being used by Marak and his accomplices as a 'brothel' for the purpose of prostitution," the statement added.Marak, an elected member of the Garo Tribal Autonomous District Council, in a statement, strongly criticised Chief Minister Sangma for the raid at the farmhouse, denying allegations about running a "brothel"."The CM is getting desperate as he knows he is losing his South Tura seat to the BJP. The raid at my farmhouse is a desperate attempt by him to malign my image and a political vendetta," claim Marak, who is evading police arrest till late Saturday night.He alleged that the Chief Minister is doing everything within his power to ensure that the BJP doesn't win a seat in Meghalaya."His divide and rule formula is evident. He has created a rift between our two sitting MLAs while giving a ticket to (former Health Minister and BJP MLA Alexander Laloo) Hek's nephew to fight against him in his party ticket," said Marak.With two MLAs, the BJP is a part of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance, led by Sangma's National People's Party.According to police, there are more than 25 criminal cases against Marak, the then self-styled chairman of now disbanded militant outfit Achik National Voluntary Council-B.

In a major embarrassment for the BJP, five children were rescued and 73 people arrested from a "brothel" reportedly run by the party's Meghalaya Vice President Bernard N. Marak in Tura on Saturday, police said.
