Marking the second edition of Uttarakhand Police Hackathon, Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon 2.0, Uttarakhand Police today conducted the launch of the website of the mega event Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon at its headquarters in Dehradun.The website has been developed under the aegis of IIT Roorkee and Uttarakhand Police.&nbsp;Shri Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police, Uttarakhand inaugurated the website, during the event. The mega event was graced by the participation of State senior police officials, MHA officials, Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee and Mahindra team. Prof. P Sateesh Kumar Peddoju and Prof. Akshay Dvivedi from IIT Roorkee are coordinators of the event.IIT Roorkee is not only the knowledge partner for the event but also an organizing partner. The event is being conducted in three stages, viz., prelims, which marks the launch of the website and initiation of registration for submitting solutions and ideas, following which there will be stages along a timeline for mains and the prize distribution ceremony.The need for Hackathon for finding technological solutions has now and then been stressed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Thus, Uttarakhand Police with utmost zeal and a commitment to meeting the goal of SMART policing conducted the first successful Cyber Hackathon in the state of Uttarakhand, Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon. Therefore, becoming the 1st state In North India to do so. Continuing in the same vein, the second edition of Uttarakhand Police Hackathon, Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon 2.0, is being conducted in collaboration with IIT Roorkee.While shedding some light on the event, Sh. Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, said,"following the vision of Smart Policing of Hon'ble Prime Minister, about 332 teams from across the country participated in the first edition of DEVBHOOMI CYBER HACKATHON organized by Uttarakhand Police last year. New Delhi (The Hawk): The National Health Authority (NHA) is organising its first hackathon under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission Hackathon Series from 14th to 17th July, 2022 at the Smart City Operations Centre, Pune, Maharashtra in hybrid format. The hackathon is being organized under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) in association with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL). Various teams comprising of innovators, developers and data experts have joined physically and virtually to collaborate and build innovative solutions.The hackathon was inaugurated by Dr. R.S. Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, NHA. Shri. Saurabh Vijay, Secretary, Medical Education and Drugs Department, Government of Maharashtra, Dr. Praveen Gedam, Additional CEO, NHA, Shri. Vikram Kumar, Commissioner, PMC, Dr. N. Ramaswamy, Commissioner (Health Services) and Mission Director, Shri Kiran Gopal Vaska, Director, NHA, Dr. Sanjay Kolte, CEO, PSCDCL, Dr. Gaur Sunder, Associate Director, C-DAC Pune, Shri. It is a unique attempt to build interoperability between healthcare providers and facilitate exchange of healthcare data - which can ultimately make quality healthcare accessible &amp; affordable to all.”Adding further on the hackathon, Dr. Sharma said – “This hackathon is the first in the series of hackathons we are planning to hold.&nbsp;This will encourage young talent in this country to contribute to the enhancement of the building blocks of our digital healthcare ecosystem and create innovative solutions for the country and the world.”In addition to the Unified Health Interface (UHI), the hackathon is also focussed at mobilising the health start-up ecosystem in India by bringing together individuals and organisations to develop innovative solutions. The tentative prize pool for ‘Round 1 – Kickstarting UHI’ is Rs. 60,00,000. The solutions shall be assessed by an independent jury. The prize shall be awarded to the top performers on each challenge track on two major themes:Innovation Track: Challenge for innovative solutions to power digital health in an open network around various use cases such as teleconsultation, ambulance booking, lab tests, physical consultation booking, lab tests booking.Integration Track: Challenge to accelerate development of applications that are compatible with UHI and integrate these applications with the applications of other such participants to enable digital health transactions on the UHI network.

Roorkee (The Hawk): The Mega Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022- Hardware Edition, one of the world’s biggest open innovation models aimed at inculcating the culture of product innovation and problem-solving among students, started off at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) on August 25, 2022 morning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji also interacted with the students' participants of the Smart India Hackathon via video conferencing on the evening of August 25, 2022.The Tinkering Lab of IIT Roorkee is the only Nodal Center in Uttarakhand hosting this Mega Grand Finale of the Smart India Hardware Hackathon (SIHH) 2022.
This 5th edition of Smart India Hackathon 2022 is organized by the MHRD innovation cell from August 25 to August 29, 2022. Around 19 teams and 150 participants from different parts of the country competed for the glory. The participants were working on the five domain problems like Smart Automation, Blockchain and Cybersecurity, Disaster Management, Smart Education, and Miscellaneous. Besides such innovative competitions, the event also showcased cultural programs throughout. Certificate and Mementoes distribution to all team members, mentors, experts, and the organizing team took place on the fifth day after the Valedictory Ceremony was conducted at APJ Abdul Kalam Block L2, in the institute to congratulate all the participants. Among the winners included Team Water Guardians, Zero spillage milking can for dairy farms, KiFolks, Vrsec Innovators in the domains of Smart Automation, Miscellaneous, Disaster Management, and Smart Education, respectively.
Smart India Hackathon 2022 is being organized in a total of 75 nodal centers all over the country as India is celebrating Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, and more than 15000 students are participated in this event. The student team works round the clock under the guidance of mentors and industry /Ministry representatives to produce the working solution for the selected problem statements.
On the 3rd day, Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Director of IIT Roorkee, and Deputy Director Prof M Parida visited the Tinkering Lab and interacted with all the young innovators. They spent more than an hour with all the innovators and their mentors, appreciating their project ideas and efforts, giving them valuable feedback, and boosting their morale.
Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell to provide students a platform to solve the pressing problems of the government, ministries, departments, industries, and other organizations. SIH has been acclaimed as the world’s biggest open innovation model and it inculcates the culture of product innovation and problem-solving among students. SIH is conducted every year since 2017 in two formats i.e. SIH Software and SIH Hardware Editions for higher education students. This year Smart India Hackathon-Junior has also been introduced for school students to build a culture of Innovation and problem-solving attitude at the school level.

IIT Roorkee Hosts The Grand Finale Of Smart India Hackathon 2022—Hardware Edition

Bengaluru: The week-long National Green Hackathon organized by the non-profit organization Quest Alliance concluded successfully in Bengaluru on Monday with enthusiastic participation from high school students of 12 states.
As many as 65 government high school students from 12 states developed over a dozen technology solutions for environmental challenges their communities face on a daily basis.
Students from Karnataka, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Assam, Nagaland, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana took part in the national level hackathon 'Hack to the Future- the Green Edition' held in Bengaluru from February 16th to 20th. The Hackathon was supported by partnerships with multinational companies such as IBM, Capgemini, Amazon, Kantar and Nissum.
Students developed over a dozen interesting technology solutions for environmental issues such as stubble/crop burning detectors, landslide detector and alarm systems for villages, motion-sensor-based taps for villages, automated soil moisture management for farms, automated wild animal detection and alarm system, water treatment plants, sun-tracking solar panels, etc.
The Hackathon was designed to encourage problem-solving and an innovation mindset among students. Under the guidance of tech experts as mentors, students went through the entire lifecycle of design thinking - problem identification, problem statement, visualizing a solution, execution, feedback and pitch presentation. The objective of this initiative was to encourage students, especially girls, to pursue STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The students were also introduced to new-age technologies such as drones, 3D printing, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality and Robotics during the Hackathon.
Neha Parti, Director (Schools), Quest Alliance, said that the purpose of this hackathon was to build a 'tinkering mindset' among students. "We have given kits to students who attended the event and hope they will make more such projects and inspire other students to become creators rather than consumers of technology."
Bhavana Girish Nayak, a class nine student of Government High School, Garudacharpalya, Bengaluru, was involved in making the automatic street light that was aimed at saving electricity. "Most of us come from rural areas where we were unable to attend online classes due to erratic electricity supply. So, we decided to optimize energy consumption," she said.

National Green Hackathon For High School Students Concludes In Bengaluru

Shimla (The Hawk): The solid waste management plan of two doctoral students of the Department of Environmental Science, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni bagged the second prize at the Hackathon-Ideation event conducted by the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board on the occasion of World Environment Day held on Monday. The students- O Sadish and Priyanka, under the chairmanship of Dr. Satish Kumar Bhardwaj, HOD, Department of Environmental Science, bagged the prize.
The award along with a cash prize of Rs 75,000 was presented to the students by Himachal Chief Minister Shri Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu during the Environment Day celebrations, in which innovative ideas in waste management were presented. Over 250 participants from different universities and colleges of Himachal Pradesh applied for the Hackathon, out of which 12 teams were selected for the 1st round. The students made their presentation before the committee on 30th May 2023 and were selected in the final round involving the top 5 teams. On Monday, students, academicians, scientists, and industrial stakeholders gathered together to celebrate World Environment Day organized by the Pollution Control Board, wherein the final presentations were made. The presentation was evaluated by an expert panel of judges.
The team from Nauni presented their idea on ‘Sustainable Circular bioeconomic strategy for solid waste management in Himachal Pradesh’. Sadish and Priyanka gave an innovative idea wherein the solid waste generated in the state could be thermochemically processed to produce carbon-rich valuable products like Hydrochar and Biochar. These useful materials obtained from waste can be used as an alternative energy source, filter for wastewater treatment and organic nutrient fertilizer for agriculture. Eventually, processing units can be installed at the panchayat level, so that the circular bioeconomy could be achieved among local communities in a sustainable manner with this new waste management technology. Sadish has attained one research expertise at Queen’s University Belfast in the UK under the Commonwealth Fellowship recently. Priyanka who has also worked on Biochar, is also a recipient of the UGC JRF fellowship.&nbsp;
University Vice-Chancellor Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel congratulated the students on their novel idea and their efforts to give new innovative technology to the state for waste management. He added that the university has also taken several steps in solid waste management and a solid waste management plant has been established at a cost of Rs 28 lakh under the green initiative of NAHEP IDP. The solid waste is being converted into compost. The quality parameters have been checked and all the microbial activity and major heavy metals have been found to be within permissible limits. Dr CL Thakur, Dean COF; Dr SK Bhardwaj and the staff and students of the Department congratulated Sadish and Priyanka on their achievement.&nbsp;

Nauni Varsity’s Students Bag Second Position In State-Level Hackathon

New Delhi (The Hawk): Union Minister for Science &amp; Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh today convened the monthly joint meeting of different Science Ministries and Departments, in New Delhi, wherein among other agenda items, he reviewed the Space Hackathon held last month for the students to sharpen their skills and innovation. The 30-hour hackathon on Space related challenges like technical issues related to the Geospatial BHUVAN portal was organised as part of the India International Science Festival - 2023 (IISF-2023) held at the DBT THSTI - RCB Campus in Faridabad, Haryana from 17th to 20th January 2024. Expressing satisfaction at the huge response for the first of its kind Space hackathon, the S&amp;T Minister appreciated the fact that over 4,000 teams were registered in the span of one month. 57 teams were shortlisted for the grand finale at Faridabad. The high-level joint meeting of different Science Ministries and Departments included representatives from Science &amp; Technology, Biotechnology, CSIR, Earth Sciences, Dept. of Space and Atomic Energy. The S&amp;T Minister was informed that after the conclusion of a gruelling 30-hour hackathon at the IISF venue, initial jury shortlisted the top 24 teams. Main jury selected 16 teams for the pitch presentation, and finally four teams were declared winners and their ideas will be supported by ISRO. Besides, 11 runners up were also declared. Dr Jitendra Singh also commended all the scientific departments for the grand success of the IISF-2023 that saw close to 35,000 participants including more than 11,000 delegates. Seven State S&amp;T Ministers, 27 State officials and Secretaries and 75 delegates also participated in the four-day Science Fest. The Science Secretaries monthly meeting also lauded the Departments for the ground work involved in the operationalization of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (NRF) with its issue of notification on 5th February 2024. Dr Jitendra Singh suggested that DST could go for the search of Anusandhan NRF Logo. Dr Jitendra Singh was informed that a demonstration was held for the One portal being designed for all fellowships of various Science Departments. A Security Audit of the portal is now being conducted by NIC before it is launched for the scholars. The meeting also discussed a proposal for Service conditions of Research Scientists in various Government Departments and Institutions. Dr Jitendra Singh called for mobilization of the recently set up Science Media Communication Center (SMCC) to raise awareness about new achievements and discoveries/inventions. He directed a Workshop of all Nodal Officers of Laboratories and Departments be held for easier flow of newsworthy achievements. The S&amp;T Minister was informed that Brazil, being the G20 Presidency host this year, has called for drafts to formulate the G20 Bioeconomy Initiative and the first Experts Meeting will be held on 13-14 March in Brazil. Today's meeting was held as part of the monthly review meetings of Science Secretaries, initiated by Dr Jitendra Singh in order to break the silos and evolve a synergistic integrated approach among different scientific streams. Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India, Dr Ajay K Sood; Secretary, DSIR &amp; DG, CSIR, Dr N Kalaiselvi; Secretary, DST, Prof. Abhay Karandikar; Secretary, DBT, Dr Rajesh S Gokhale; &amp; Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dr M Ravichandran attended the deliberations. Senior Officers of the Science Ministries and Departments, including Science &amp; Technology, Biotechnology, CSIR, Earth Sciences, ISRO and Atomic Energy were also present.
