Amid protests against the Centre's new Agnipath recruitment scheme, security has been beefed up in many places including Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur.

Bhopal (The Hawk): In Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, 15 people were killed and more than 35 were injured after their bus crashed with a stopped vehicle near Suhagi Pahari.
According to reports, the incident took place on Friday at approximately 11:30 p.m. “ Officials in Rewa claimed the bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Gorakhpur when it crashed into a parked trailer truck on NH 30 in the Sohagi ghati area.
Twelve people were killed instantly, and two more died their route from Teonthar to Rewa. He said that one more victim later died of their wounds at the Rewa hospital.
Sogahi police officers responded immediately upon hearing the news and immediately began a search-and-rescue effort. An eyewitness reported that the majority of the bus's passengers were construction workers returning home for the Diwali holiday.
The majority of casualties were sent to a hospital in Teonthar, but the SP said that those with more serious injuries had been flown to Rewa.
Officials say that Madhya Pradesh's chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, called with Uttar Pradesh's chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, to inform him of the incident. The badly injured are being treated at a government medical college in Rewa, Chouhan reported to the UP chief minister.
Chouhan promised him that the government of Madhya Pradesh will pay for the medical care of the injured. Those who had suffered less serious wounds received first care and were then transferred to another bus bound for Prayagraj. As a further note, he said that the victims' bodies were also being transported to Prayagraj.
The MP government has stated that they will pay the families of the victims Rs 1 Lakh (about $1,500) in compensation. Many people were released from the hospital. MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that all injured people would receive free medical care and a cash payment of Rs 10,000.
On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sorrow for the lives lost in a traffic accident in Rewa and said he spoke to his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan about the care of those injured in the disaster. Adityanath also promised Rs 2 lakh ($30,000) to the families of the Uttar Pradesh victims who perished in the attacks, and Rs 50,000 ($8,500) to the families of the state's critically injured.
It's tragic that so many lives were taken in a car crash in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. May the departed rest peacefully at the feet of Lord Shri Ram, and may the injured make a swift recovery. Adityanath expressed his sadness for the loss of loved ones in a tweet written in Hindi.

He further said, "Instructions have been issued to provide Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased state residents and Rs 50,000 to those injured significantly."
In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised Rs 2 lakhs (about $30,000) ex-gratia from the PMNRF to the surviving family members of each victim. Each victim would receive 50,000 Indian Rupees.
Both the injured and the bodies of the dead were taken to Teonthar Civil Hospital from Rewa's Sanjay Gandhi Medical College. Helpline numbers (7049122399) and (8319706674) were provided by the state police.
Working class people were using the bus to return home for the Diwali holiday.

Lucknow (The Hawk): The Lucknow University has severed ties with the Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital and the Government Unani College (LU).
Ayush University, Gorakhpur will now be associated with the two colleges.
The LU Executive Council met on Wednesday and made a decision to this effect.
Sanjay Medhavi, registrar at LU, said: "All Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathy institutes in the state would henceforth be affiliated with Ayush University, according to the UP government. We agreed to the affiliation shift plan in the meeting in accordance with the directive."
He claimed that LU had told colleges that going forward, all newly admitted students will receive degrees from Ayush University while those currently enrolled would receive degrees from LU.
He said that Ayush University will now be in charge of administering the test.
LU will now teach pharmacy, yoga, and alternative medicine as part of medical education.

Lucknow (The Hawk): Yogi Adityanath was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly from the Gorakhpur (Urban) seat, and a petition objecting to his election as chief minister was dismissed by the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow division.
The petitioner was also given a Rs 11,000 fine by the court.
The writ petition was submitted by petitioner M. Ismail Faruqui, who also personally appeared before the court to present his case.
"The petitioner has failed to show from records as to how the appointment or the continuation of the respondent (Yogi Adityanath) on the Chief Minister's post is not in accordance with the law," a division bench of Justices Attaur Rahman Masoodi and Om Prakash Shukla stated.
The court further declared that no litigant had the right to squander its resources in an effort to settle his case in a way that suited him.
For all the aforementioned reasons, the court dismissed the current petition, saying that "easy access to justice should not be misused as a licence to file misconceived and frivolous petitions."
The court ordered that the petitioner pay the State Legal Services Authority the "exemplary" cost of Rs 11,000 within four weeks.

Prayagraj (The Hawk): K. Vijayendra Pandian, a former district magistrate in Gorakhpur, has been fined Rs. 5 lakh by the Allahabad High Court for what the court deemed to be "malicious" behaviour in using the Goonda Act against a petitioner and "harassing" him regarding his disputed property.
A division bench made up of Justices Suneet Kumar and Syed Waiz Mian heard a case submitted by Kailash Jaiswal and overturned the notice the Gorakhpur district government had issued invoking the Goonda Act against the petitioner.
In addition, the court ordered Pandian, an IAS official from the 2008 batch, to be the subject of an investigation by the Uttar Pradesh government.
The petitioner was allegedly being forced to cede the in-dispute property in favour of the district administration by the district administration.
In its ruling, the High Court noted that in order for clause I of section 2(b) of the Goonda Act to be applicable, there must be mention of at least two instances of criminal activity.
However, the judge observed, the notice simply makes reference to one occurrence.
"Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, prima facie, we are convinced that the proceedings initiated against the petitioner are not only malicious but to harass him in regard to the property in dispute which admittedly vests with the petitioner lawfully," the court added in passing the aforementioned directive.

Gorakhpur: Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Digital India' campaign, some girl students studying B.Tech at Gorakhpur's Madan Mohan Malviya Engineering College have designed a smart stick for the benefit of the visually impaired.
Named 'Shiva Stick', they have been designed to enable visually impaired persons to reach religious places of their choice without asking anyone for help.
The students said the stick comes with an in-built sensor and a voice recording chip enabling the visually impaired persons to commute on their own without the fear of being knocked down.
On turning on a switch attached to it, the stick will guide the person holding it till he reaches his desired destination.
Elaborating on how their piece of innovation works, the girls said a person using the stick can pick a particular destination from a list of religious of places that are preset in the device, by pressing the switch multiple times.
"We designed this device to reduce the dependence of visually impaired persons on others when it comes to commuting and enable them to travel to any religious place of their choice," said one of the students.
"We made this stick to make visually impaired people more independent and self-reliant. They won't need anyone's guidance. We took a selfie stick and added a voice recorder chip, ultrasonic sensor, transmitter and flashlight to it. A 9-bolt battery has also been installed in the device to run the voice recorder," said another student from the team of innovators.
"The flashlight will enable people to spot a visually impaired person in the dark or low light and help them avert mishaps," she added.
"The sensor in the stick will guide the holder. The destination can be selected by pressing the switch multiple times," one of the students told ANI.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is championing new initiatives in the country and the Digital India' is one of them. Taking inspiration from 'Digital India', we designed this stick," said another student.
"It took the students a week to make the selfie stick. It will available for the visually impaired at Rs 600-700 apiece once the prototype is cleared and improved upon," the student told ANI.

Dr. Jitendra Singh said that this is keeping in line with the priority to increase India’s nuclear capacity, a number of path breaking decisions were taken in last over 8 years. He added that a bulk approval of installation of 10 nuclear reactors has been given a nod by the Modi Government.

Till date, an amount of ?4,906 Cr has been spent out of total allocated funds 20,594 Cr. (Total Financial progress is 23.8% as on date).
Construction of other Main Plant buildings/structures viz. Fire Water Pump House (FWPH), Safety Related Pump House (SRPH), Fuel Oil storage area-1&amp;2 (FOSA-1&amp;2), Ventilation stack, overhead tank (OHT), Switchyard Control Building, Safety related &amp; Non-safety related Tunnel &amp; Trenches, Retaining walls and Garland Drain is progressing well. Ground improvement in Turbine Building -1 &amp; 2, 220 kV Switchyard and IDCT-1A is completed. Ground improvement in other areas IDCTs, 400kV Switchyard, Emergency makeup water pond and station roads are in progress. The contractors for IDCT package and Turbine Island Package have mobilized site.
Purchase orders for major long manufacturing cycle equipment/components like Primary Coolant Pumps, Calandria, Reactor Headers, Refuelling Machines Heads, Moderator and other D20 Heat Exchangers, etc. are already in place. End Shields and all Steam Generators for the first unit have been received at site. Manufacturing of other equipment is in various stages and delivery at site is expected well in time to meet the construction schedule. Another shopkeeper said, "Many types of pichkari are being sold in the market. This year bulldozer pichkari, Pubji pichkari, Doraemon Pichkari, Baby Girl Pichkari are being sold in the market.
Shopkeeper Vinod Chaudhary told ANI, "this time on Holi, children's cartoon characters based pichkaris are in demand."
There is a lot of demand for Yogi and Modi's T-shirts, Modi's mask, and saffron towels, he added.
"Due to inflation, the rates of pichkaris are high in the markets but the sale is fine," he further stated.

Gorakhpur: For the last 15 years, he comes out daily with a broom in his hand and cleans up the streets of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to awaken the spirit of cleanliness among people.
Famously known as 'Jhadu Baba', Mahesh Shukla of Gorakhpur's Gorakhnath area can be found sweeping the streets daily morning.
Sweeping is his passion. He is a businessman by profession and runs a computer and camera shop in the city's Shahi Market.
Shukla has been regularly cleaning his locality and surrounding areas since 2008. He cleans different neighbourhoods between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Shukla says that he does not do this for gaining any fame, but it is included in his habit. "Due to the awareness, now about 700 to 800 people are associated with us. I do all this work with my own money."
He further says that the cleaning work is going on in different parts of the city. "On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the cleaning work is done in Gorakhnath, Rajendra Nagar and Shastri Nagar respectively. While on Thursday and Sunday, I clean Ramgarh Tal area," he elaborates.
"So far, around Rs 10 lakh has been spent on this work. There is an expense of about five brooms every week. Apart from this, the kit also includes water bottles. Honoring the cleaning staff of our area is also included in our routine," Shukla adds.
"Actually, about 30-40 families reside at the street where I live. There was an electric pole next to my house. People used to throw the garbage there. In search of food, animals used to scatter the garbage and I used to feel very bad then. When interrupted, people used to start fighting. Since the garbage was usually disposed of by women, debating with them seemed inappropriate," Shukla recalls. He further narrates that once he was going to Jaipur, when he found a book was lying on the seat next to him. There was some mention about Mahatma Gandhi and cleanliness in the book. Showing the book, Shukla's wife told him that if he wants to keep his surroundings clean, then he should learn it from Gandhi ji.
It worked out, but there were some hesitations in his mind initially, due to which, he used to collect the garbage in late night using broom so that no one should see him cleaning the garbage.
Slowly, people started realising that "Shukla ji picks up our garbage" and about 50 per cent people stopped throwing garbage near the pole. "This inspired me and also reduced the work. Then I bought a big broom and started sweeping the whole street," he adds.
Though most of the people stopped throwing the garbage near the Shukla's house, 3-4 women still used to throw the garbage there. "Now as soon as they throw garbage, I used to clean it. After which, protests started from their house itself and so they also stopped throwing garbage."
All this took about six to seven months. His street became clean due to the initiative started by him and the efforts of the people. "Then I turned to the main road and the parks," he says.
In the meantime, the government at the Centre changed. Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister and he started the cleanliness drive. Symbolically, he himself was seen sweeping and cleaning many places. Seeing him, others also did the same.
Yogi Adityanath's photo was also published in newspapers, cleaning the Gorakhnath temple premises.
"This encouraged me. The hesitation completely went away. People started discussing about my work. I started getting the platform too. I was surprised that the work which I started with hesitation is becoming the reason for my reputation," he recalls.
He made some brooms big enough to get into his car. He also bought a dress, gloves, cap and a mic system to appeal to people to join him.
People not only appreciated his initiative but also supported him.
The broom and the rest of the kit remain lying in the car. "Wherever I go by car. The morning routine starts with the broom itself. I have also gone to Indore, which is one of the best cities in terms of cleanliness, to see the arrangement there."
Shukla says that earlier he used to do his work very quietly without any publicity. But, now he posts photos with the broom while cleaning to inspire others with his work.

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that the state is now entirely free of anarchy. Every person is guaranteed security without discrimination, and investors from the country and the world are willing to invest in UP.
Addressing a business conference organized in view of the municipal elections in Gorakhpur, CM Yogi said, "Contrarily, UP is now entirely free of this anarchy. Every person is guaranteed security without discrimination, and investors from the country and the world are willing to invest in the state."
Talking about the secure environment in the state, Yogi said, "In the past, extortion and the Gunda tax were collected here. Goons, mafia, and people of the ruling party used to encroach upon the properties of the poor and the establishments of the traders."
"As a result of the establishment of a secure environment, everyone's perception of Uttar Pradesh has changed', he added.
Stating that security and peace are very important for trade, the Chief Minister said, "The confidence of the people of the country has increased under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the area of trade and industry, numerous reforms have been implemented. Today, the global market is completely open for India. All these have had a positive impact on per capita income and standard of living."
The Chief Minister continued by saying that businessmen are eager to support Bharatiya Janata Party on their own during the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. However, it must also be remembered that the municipal body is the third house and that the importance of its election must not be undermined.
"The number of facilities will rise if a strong board is formed in the local bodies. The environment will be made beautiful. If the wrong candidates are chosen, the funds allotted by the central and state governments will be wasted. Triple-engine government is essential with the double-engine government," he added. The Chief Minister stated that the municipal bodies did not previously have as many schemes. A world-class city is being created under the BJP government's smart and safe city initiatives.
"The Central Government selected 10 cities of Uttar Pradesh under the Smart City Mission, while seven others, including Gorakhpur, were selected by the State Government under the State Mission. Today, 17 cities are being developed as smart cities in UP," he said.
CM also noted that the city had single-lane roads in the past, then double-lane roads, and now a network of four-lane roads is being built. There is a multi-level parking facility. A strong board needs to be elected for the Municipal Corporation in order to expand these facilities.
CM Yogi also humorously cautioned the traders against being overconfident and warned them, saying, "Don't make the mistake of going to Nepal on May 4, the border will remain sealed." The Chief Minister encouraged people to vote more and more by stating that elections are a celebration of democracy and that people should experience this celebration firsthand. Harishankar Tiwari was born in Barhalganj town and represented Chillupar seat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly from 1985 to 2002 for six times.

Harishankar Tiwari was considered a political heavyweight and had established himself as a leader of Brahmins in the state.

Gorakhpur: Uttra Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to ensure no delay in helping victims and benefiting eligibles from the public welfare schemes while hearing public grievances during 'Janata Darshan' at Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur, an official statement said.
No laxity will be tolerated in this, if any problem is being faced at any level, then it should be found out and resolved. If the case has been deliberately kept pending at any level, then strict action should be taken against the concerned by ensuring responsibility there, CM instructed the officials.
While interacting with the people CM assured everyone that there is no need to panic and that he will be solving everyone's problem effectively. In complaints related to land grabbing CM directed officials to take strict action possible according to the law.
As many of the reached Janata Darshan seeking financial help for the treatment, CM Yogi asked the officials to prepare an estimate for the same and make it available to the government as soon as possible.
CM further assured that adequate help will be given from the Chief Minister's Discretionary Fund for the treatment. CM also spoke intimately to the children and asked them about their studies and gifted them chocolates while caressing them, the statement read. —ANI

New Delhi: A man, 38 years old, was reported to have committed suicide by hanging himself at the Tyagraj Stadium complex on Sunday, according to officials.
A suicide note was recovered from him in which he mentioned being subjected to a fraud and urged his wife to forgive him.
A senior police official has confirmed that the deceased is Gorakhpur native named Akhileshwar Mishra.
The man who died used to work as a LAS at Race Course Airforce Station, according to the police.
"We received a call regarding this incident at around 5:41 a.m. The caller informed the police that someone had committed suicide in a park opposite Gate No. 7," the police said.
The police recovered a suicide note in his possession.
"Dad, you're great and have a big heart. Mother, I request you not to cry. Children, I urge you to struggle in life and lead a good life. Pooja, you are honest, please forgive me. I have become a victim of fraud by a stranger. A life without accusations is the best life; I don't fit in this Kalyug life. Pooja, I request you to provide the best education to our children; I know you will. I have troubled you a lot, so if possible, please forgive me," read his suicide letter.
He also suggested his family to move to Mathura in the letter.
His body was transported to a nearby government hospital for a postmortem examination, according to the police.—Inputs from Agencies

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a Janata Darshan at Gorakhpur and met around 200 people hailing from various districts for the second consecutive day at the Janata Darshan on Sunday.  CM Yogi, who is on a visit to Gorakhpur, instructed the officials present to pay attention to every issue raised by the public, resolve them, and ensure that the public feels that the government is sensitive towards their problems and supportive of them at all times.
The Chief Minister listened to the problems of each visitor gathered in front of the Mahant Digvijayanath Smriti Bhavan on the premises of the Gorakhnath Temple for Janata Darshan. He also assured people of all help and said, “Don't worry, don't panic at all. Action will be taken on every complaint. Whatever the problem, we will get it resolved." CM Yogi reached out to the people seated on the chairs and told them that he would ensure the resolution of all their issues. While handing over the prayer letters to the concerned officials, the Chief Minister instructed officials to handle every problem promptly with quality, and to the satisfaction of the concerned individuals. In response to complaints about land encroachments, he directed officials to take strict legal action. Some people who had also come to the Janata Darshan seeking financial assistance for medical treatment were assured by the CM that the lack of funds would not be a hindrance to their treatment. He further directed officials to expedite the hospital's estimation process for treatment and send it to the government promptly. He further assured that an adequate amount would be provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for their treatment. Furthermore, the Chief Minister blessed children who had come along with their mothers, inquired about their studies and gifted them chocolates.&nbsp;

Joshi, the Chief Material Manager of Northeastern Railway Gorakhpur , for allegedly demanding a bribe from the owner of a private firm in exchange for not cancelling his tender.
A senior CBI official said that they received a complaint from Pranav Tripathi regarding the bribery demand by Joshi. Tripathi, the proprietor of Sukti Associates, registered his firm on the GEM portal. He supplies products and services to Northeastern Railway Gorakhpur and other government departments through his company.
Tripathi won a tender for the supply of materials from the Store Depot, Northeastern Railway Gorakhpur, in January 2023, which was valid until 15.01.2024, with a payment of Rs 80,000 per truck per month.
"Joshi, who is responsible for such matters, wrote to cancel the registration of Tripathi's firm on the GEM portal and threatened to cancel ongoing tenders if a bribe was not paid," read the complaint.
The CBI verified the complaint, which prima facie substantiated the allegations. Consequently, the CBI filed an FIR under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will gift 35 development projects worth Rs 343 crore to Gorakhpur on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti on Sunday.
He will also lay foundation stone for 41 projects, including the Bhandu Singh commercial complex and a multi-level parking, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 27.53 crore, along with the Gaurav Sangrahalaya (museum) costing Rs 20.43 crore.
The inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony will take place at the Ramlila Maidan at Manasarovar in the afternoon.
The development projects that he will inaugurate includes two of the jal nigam nagariya worth Rs 193,69,70,000, three of the UPRNN pratham worth Rs 4,32,68,000 and 30 nagar nigam projects worth Rs 19,08,19,000.
The chief minister will lay the foundation of projects of the rural engineering department, UP projects corporation, UPRNN 1st, Nagar Nikay, PWD, DUDA, etc.
These projects include roadways, drainage systems, sewage management, heritage preservation, trauma centre, and checking traffic congestion in busy areas of the city.
Earlier this month, the chief minister had gifted Gorakhpur development projects worth approximately Rs 629 crore. On September 2, the chief minister inaugurated and laid the foundation of 195 development projects, a significant portion dedicated to rural drinking water projects.

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a resolute stance, affirmed on Thursday his unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of the underprivileged and said that in his government, no poor person would face eviction. According to a press statement, speaking at the Janata Darshan, held at Mahant Digvijaynath Smriti Bhawan on Gorakhnath temple premises and attended by around 500 people, the Chief Minister stated that the government would ensure the safeguarding of the land belonging to the impoverished and the provision of concrete housing facilities under either the PM Awas Yojana, or the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana for those yet to secure a permanent residence. CM Yogi heard the problems and grievances of the people attentively and directed the concerned officials present at the Janata Darshan to address the issues raised, promptly and satisfactorily, the statement read. He forwarded people's prayer letters to the respective authorities, along with instructions for expeditious and equitable resolutions of all their problems. He also assured the people that no injustice would be done to anyone during his tenure. Gorakhpur: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that currently, there are 10 compressed bio-gas (CBG) plants in Uttar Pradesh but in the coming months, there will be 100 CBG plants in the state. The Union Minister said this while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Indian Oil's CBG plant at Dhuriapar on Friday. He said that the CBG plant is a big effort towards protecting the environment, increasing the income of farmers, and energy self-reliance. This plant has been established by Indian Oil with a capital investment of Rs 165 crore. In this plant, 200 metric tonnes of agricultural residue (paddy straw), 20 metric tonnes of press mud, and 10 metric tonnes of cattle dung will be used daily. The biogas plant will produce about 20 metric tonnes of biogas and 125 metric tonnes of organic fertiliser per day. Organic fertilisers will help in increasing agricultural production. Hardeep Singh Puri expressed happiness over the Green Hydrogen policy brought by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for environmental protection, saying there will be a rapid investment in this sector. He said that arrangements will be made to set up a green hydrogen plant in his adopted district, Sonbhadra, in Uttar Pradesh. The Union Minister said that farmers will play a big role in the energy sector also. This CBG plant is associated with this role. He stated that till 2014, a total of 14 crore gas connections were given which has now increased to 32 crore. Under the Ujjwala scheme launched in 2016, 10 crore women have been given free gas connections, out of which 8 crores are rural women. The Union Minister also praised Yogi Adityanath and said that under his leadership, Uttar Pradesh is moving towards becoming a trillion dollar economy. With this, Uttar Pradesh is going to make a big contribution in making the country a five trillion-dollar economy, he said. —IANS
