Patna (The Hawk): A local football player was fired at and hurt by two unidentified individuals ahead of the by-election for the Gopalganj Assembly seat in Bihar, an official said on Thursday.
Santosh Kumar Singh, the victim, reportedly has significant injuries from gunshot wounds to his leg and stomach.
He was admitted to Sadar Hospital in Gopalganj and later sent there for medical attention.
Following the event, Mohan Prasad Gupta, a candidate for the RJD, and his supporters arrived to Sadar Hospital.
Santosh Kumar Singh, a well-known football player and resident of Nonia Toli, was attacked on Wednesday night while he was travelling home from the local police station, according to Gopalganj SDPO Sanjiv Kumar.
"To find the accused, we are looking through more than a dozen locations' CCTV. In regards to the attacks, we have some leads. They will shortly be imprisoned, "said he.
According to sources, Santosh Kumar used to work at the town police station and was thought to be an informant for the local police, which may have led to the attack.

Patna (The Hawk): Former MP and Bahubali leader Anand Mohan will be released from prison on a 15-day parole on Wednesday, one day before the by-elections for the Gopalganj and Mokama Assembly seats in Bihar.
Life in jail is being meted out to Anand Mohan for the lynching of G. In 1994 in Muzaffarpur, Krishnayya served as the district magistrate of Gopalganj. When his automobile was ambushed during the burial procession of underworld don Chotan Shukla, Krishnayya was slain. Anand Mohan, who was a participant in the march, had been charged by Muzaffarpur police with inciting the perpetrators' followers to commit the crime.
The Muzaffarpur MP-MLA court awarded Mohan a 15-day parole. The RJD is supported by Anand Mohan's wife Lovely Anand and son Chetan Anand. The party's other MLA is Chetan Anand. Anand Mohan, a member of the Rajput ethnic group, has a substantial support base in the North Bihar districts of Saharsa, Gopalganj, Madhepura, among others.
According to sources, the RJD wanted his release before the Gopalganj and Mokama bypoll. It is very difficult for the RJD candidate to win the Gopalganj seat. In Gopalganj, there is a race between the RJD and the BJP, but the Sadhu Yadav factor can work against the RJD. Upper caste and trader voters make up the BJP's core constituency. Muslims, Yadavs, Dalits, and Mahadalit communities all support the RJD.
Indira Yadav, the wife of Sadhu Yadav, is running for office in Gopalganj against Kusum Devi of the BJP and Mohan Prasad Gupta of the RJD. Rajput voters may switch their allegiance to the RJD after Anand Mohan's release, as its leaders hope. One strategy to defeat the BJP candidates is supposed to be this, and Tejashwi Yadav has been continually mentioning his father Lalu Prasad in Gopalganj to defeat his uncle, Sadhu Yadav.
Voting for Gopalganj and Mokama will take place on November 3rd, with results being announced on November 6th.

Patna: A recently married woman was found strangled in Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Thursday, allegedly by her husband, police said.
The dead was Nisha Kumari, who had recently married Mukesh Kumar in February this year.
The cops said that Mukesh Kumar strangled her in his hometown, Alapur, and he has been arrested.
After Nisha Kumari and her husband got married, she allegedly found out about his extramarital affair and began complaining to it, at which point her husband began beating her.
She has previously voiced her displeasure with Mukesh Kumar to her family, and each time the issue has been resolved.
On Thursday, Mukesh Kumar was involved in a quarrel with Nisha Kumari after she objected to illicit relationship. He became so enraged that he killed her by strangling her. The local police reached the crime scene and recovered the dead body.
As a result of the victim's father's report, a FIR has been filed against Mukesh Kumar for murder and criminal conspiracy.—Inputs from Agencies

Patna: Massive fire broke out in the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Gopalganj on Tuesday, leading to loss of properties, an official said. The incident occurred around 5.30 a.m. at Monia Chowk branch of SBI. The local residents informed the bank officials and fire brigade about the mishap. 
We were informed by local residents about the fire mishap. We immediately contacted the fire brigade. The actual reason for the fire is not ascertained yet. It seems that a short circuit could be the reason for the mishap. Some computers and documents were gutted in this mishap. We are analyzing the loss of properties,” said Jainesh Kumar, branch manager of SBI Monia branch Gopalganj.
“We have used three fire engines to douse the flame. It has taken two hours. The actual reason for the fire is not known yet. Short circuit could be the reason for the mishap,” said Prasadnt Kumar, SHO of the town police station.

Patna: A minor gang-rape survivor in Bihar’s Gopalganj district who was kidnapped by three men, managed to escape from their clutches and reach the Sadar hospital on September 1 night, an official said on Sunday.  The victim, a native of a village that comes under the limit of Baikunthpur police station of the district, was gang-raped by two persons on April 14. An FIR in this connection was registered in the police station and one of the accused was arrested.  According to the police, the family members of the accused were applying pressure to withdraw the case.
On Friday evening, they allegedly kidnapped the minor girl in a four-wheeler when she went outside her home. The accused gagged her mouth with cotton and forcibly took her in a car. As per the statement of the victim, the accused, after travelling some distance, stopped the car to buy water bottles. The victim saw an opportunity and jumped from the car. She somehow reached the Sadar hospital and fell unconscious. The hospital staff spotted her and admitted her to the emergency ward. The hospital administration informed the victim’s family and the local police about the incident.  “The teenage girl is undergoing treatment in Sadar hospital. On the written statement of the victim, we have registered FIR against three persons. Her mother informed that two persons had gang-raped her on April 14 and one of them was arrested and the other one is on the run,” said Dhananjay Kumar Rai, SHO of Sadar police station.  “The victim’s mother also claimed that the accused were applying pressure on them to take back the gang-rape case,” he said.

Patna: As many as 36 youths were detained for "suspicious" activities in a raid jointly carried out by Gopalganj police and civil administration on Wednesday.
Police raided a three-storey building located at Lakhpatia Mor of Gopalganj town and detained them.
The police acted on the inputs of the local intelligence that the youths may possibly be from Bangladesh but are posing as natives of West Bengal on the basis of fake documents.
Police also suspect that some kind of training was on in the building.
The youths came under the radar of security agencies as their language and tradition differed from the local people. Moreover, they did not interact with the local residents.
On the basis of suspicion, the police seized their laptops, mobile phones and other documents, including an Aadhaar card, which belongs to a person named Dhirendra Kumar.
The local police are in the process of confirming the authenticity of the documents. The security agencies are on high alert and mounted surveillance on their activities.
However, the youths claimed that they were associated with a medicine company and living here in a rented room. Some of them also claimed that they are associated with coaching centres.
