According to the fire department, a call about the blaze was received at 9.12 pm, and 11 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was doused around 11.20 pm. Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) developed an indigenous municipal solid waste combustor pilot plant based on a first-of-its-kind ‘Rotary Furnace Technology’ to efficiently process un-segregated municipal solid waste generated in India. This Combustor Plant was inaugurated on Friday by V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, was deployed within the Combined Cycle Demonstration Plant premises at the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited factory at Trichy. The MSW generated in India is around 133 million tonnes a year of which more than 85 per cent ends up in landfills. The total solid waste generation in Tamil Nadu is 14,600 tonnes/day with around 5,400 tonnes/day generated in Chennai (TNPCB, 2021). The MSW generation is increasing at 1.3 per cent a year with a current per capita generation of around 0.5-1 kg/day.After the segregation and utilisation of bio-organic wastes for composting, vermin-composting and biogas generation, more than 2,500 tonnes/day of bio-inorganic waste, including plastics and high calorific value matter are dumped in the landfills. The Indian solid waste management industry is worth $13.62 billion by 2025. Developed completely indigenously, this facility can process up to one tonne of un-segregated municipal solid waste (MSW) per day and generate steam as the main output along with clean gaseous emissions and ash as a by-product. This initiative was part of the Ucchatar Avishkaar Yojana (UAY) project funded by BHEL and the Union Ministry of Education. It was developed by IIT Madras Researchers at National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD). R Vinu, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Madras, led the project. The entire process from installation to commissioning was completed within six months. Kamakoti said, “Waste management is becoming an important issue that necessitates solutions that can scale and also help in quick and safe disposal. The first-of-its-kind Solid Waste Combustor developed by IIT Madras not only addresses the scale and safe disposal issues, but also generates heat resulting in a waste-to-wealth creation.” “It has already been well-tested at IIT Madras for a variety of mixed wastes and up to 40 per cent moisture in the feedstock. The Pilot Plant also contains robust emission treatment units including a bag filter, wet scrubber and dry scrubber to filter and capture the pollutants ensuring emissions are well within the norms,” a statement from IIT, Madras said.—IANS

New Delhi (The Hawk): As per information provided by National Medical Commission (NMC), there are 13,08,009 allopathic doctors registered with the State Medical Councils and the National Medical Commission (NMC) as on June, 2022. Assuming 80% availability of registered allopathic doctors and 5.65 lakh AYUSH doctors, the doctor-population ratio in the country is 1:834 which is better than the WHO standard of 1:1000. Also, there are 34.33 lakh registered nursing personnel and 13 lakh Allied and Healthcare Professionals in the country.The Government has taken following steps to further increase the availability of doctors in the country, particularly in underserved regions. The number of UG seats have increased from 51,348 before 2014 to 91,927 seats which is an increase of 79%. The numbers of PG seats have increased by 93% from 31,185 seats in 2014 to 60,202 seats. The steps to increase doctor-patients ratio include: -Centrally Sponsored Scheme for establishment of new medical college by upgrading district/ referral hospital under which 157 new medical colleges have been approved and 72 are already functional.Centrally Sponsored Scheme for strengthening/ upgradation of existing State Government/Central Government Medical Colleges to increase MBBS and PG seats.Central Sector Scheme for upgradation of Government Medical Colleges by construction of Super Specialty Blocks. A total of 75 projects have been approved and 55 have been completed.Under Central Sector Scheme for setting up of new AIIMS, 22 AIIMS have been approved. New Delhi: The industrial Internet Of Things (IIoT) spending in the discrete manufacturing sector in Asia-Pacific is likely to reach $89 billion by 2025, according to a new report.
Discrete manufacturing is the production of distinct items like automobiles, furniture, toys, smartphones and aeroplanes, among others.
According to an IDC report, manufacturing is the most common target of infrastructure cybercrime today, accounting for one-third of all assaults.
Additionally, the level of competitiveness is rising and so do the expectations of the client which demands improved personalisation, rapid information, and better assistance before making a purchase.
"Most traditional manufacturing plants were not built with cybersecurity in mind. With the advancement of hacking technology, every point of connection increases the danger of cyberattacks and cybercrime, which can result in interference, remote access, intellectual property theft, and data loss or change," said Piyush Singh, senior market analyst for IoT Insights, IDC Asia/Pacific.
Discrete manufacturers all over the world are actively investigating how to leverage the Internet Of Things (IoT) to link their supply chains, equipment, and products better.
Manufacturers can profit greatly from retrofitting smart sensors to old equipment because of the insights they can obtain about their equipment, said the report.
In Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ), close to one-third of all IoT spending in 2020 (hardware, software, services, and connectivity combined) was for the manufacturing industry.
"Retrofitting machinery with IoT capabilities is a cost-effective solution to update outdated pieces of equipment, especially when compared with totally replacing them," said Singh.

The economic intelligence agency had submitted its initial charge sheet in the case last week.
The proprietor of buddy retail private limited is Arora, the ninth accused in the ED and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBIFIR. )'s
The initial charge sheet against businessman Sameer Mahendru spanned more than 3,000 pages.
There are claims that Vijay Nair, the accused public worker, received improper financial benefits from Mahendru through Arun Ramchandra Pillai, a resident of Hyderabad's Kokapet neighbourhood.
The FIR of the CBI served as the foundation for the ED's case.
The CBI submitted its initial charge sheet in the case on Friday. Vijay Nair, Abhishek Boinpally, Sameer Mahendru, Arun Ramchandra Pillai, Mootha Gautham, and two government employees — Kuldeep Singh, a former deputy commissioner of the excise department, and Narender Singh, a former assistant commissioner—have all been named in the charge sheet.

New Delhi News: Delhi's Shaheen Bagh resident and the Kozhikode train fire incident primary accused Shahrukh Saifi ran a YouTube channel with 539 subscribers, as per information gathered by IANS.

Saifi, who is known for his talent in creating furniture, showcased his skills in various videos, some of which gained significant popularity with over 90,000 views. However, the authenticity of the channel could not be verified independently by IANS.

"He started uploading videos a year ago on his YoutTube channel a@shahrukhsaifiscarpentry883' and he had uploaded six videos till date. His every video had views in thousands," said one of his neighbours on condition of anonymity, adding that the family and most of the neighbours were in shock when they heard about Shahrukh being a prime accused in the Kozhikode train fire incident.

Three passengers, including a child, died while nine other passengers sustained burn injuries in the arson attack on the Alappuzha-Kannur Express train at around 9.45 p.m. on Sunday (April 2).

Saifi was nabbed on April 4 in a joint operation carried out by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and Central intelligence agencies. The suspect had reportedly sustained injuries to his face and head, and had sought medical treatment at a hospital in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.

However, authorities have now begun to delve into Saifi's past and are actively searching for any potential connections that may explain why the young man has taken such a wrong turn in his life.

New Delhi: Markets were on a roll last week and hit new lifetime highs. The rise was helped in no small way by the outbreak of monsoon in the financial capital and Maharashtra where there have been decent rains for the last 10 consecutive days. BSESENSEX gained 1,739.19 points or 2.76 per cent to close at 64,718.56 points while NIFTY gained 523.55 points or 2.80 per cent to close at 19,189.05 points. The broader indices gained as well and saw the BSE100, BSE200 and BSE500 gain 2.70 per cent, 2.69 per cent and 2.59 per cent respectively. BSEMIDCAP gained 2.86 per cent while BSESMALLCAP was up 1.91 per cent. The benchmark indices gained on all the four trading sessions. The intraday highs were 64,768.58 points on BSESENSEX and 19,201.70 points on NIFTY. The Indian Rupee remained unchanged against the US Dollar at Rs 82.04. Dow Jones had a great week gaining on three of the five trading sessions. It was up 680.17 points or 2.02 per cent to close at 34,407.60 points. The week gone by saw two primary issues open and close for subscription. The first was IdeaForge Limited which was scheduled to be open between Monday the 26th of June to Thursday the 29th of June. With the change in holiday from Wednesday to Thursday, the issue had to be extended to Friday, as technically it could not close a day earlier than advertised on Wednesday. This saw the issue getting more response. The issue was subscribed 106.05 times overall. QIB portion was subscribed 125.81 times, HNI portion 80.58 times, Retail 85.25 times and Employee 96.57 times. There were 25.07 lakh applications in all. It appears some of the online brokerage firms bidding software had glitches and as a result Retail subscription was bid as employees. In case some remedial action is not taken, one would witness the highest percentage of technical rejection in this category. The second issue was from Cyient DLM Limited which was open from Tuesday the 27th of June to Friday the 30th of June. The issue was subscribed 71.35 times overall with QIB portion subscribed 95.87 times, HNI 47.75 times and Retail portion was subscribed 52.14 times. There were 16.91 lac applications. The issue from Senco Gold Limited is tapping the capital markets with its fresh issue of Rs 270 crore and an offer for sale of Rs 135 crore. The issue opens for subscription on Tuesday the 4th of July and closes on Thursday the 6th of July. The price band of the issue is Rs 301-317. The company as the name suggests is into the business of selling gold, diamonds and platinum jewellery besides gold and silver coins and also jewellery made from precious and semi-precious stones. The company is very strong in its presence in the Eastern part of India. Senco has 136 showrooms which includes 75 which are company owned and operated and 61 which are franchisee operated.  The company reported revenues of Rs 4,108 crore for the year ended March 2023. The company had a profit after tax of Rs 158.47 crore for the year ended March 2023. The EPS on a fully diluted basis was Rs 22.87. The PE multiple on this fully diluted basis EPS is an attractive 13.16-13.86 times. Considering its peer set, markets at lifetime highs, the price that the company is asking for its shares is fair and offers substantial scope for appreciation in the short to medium term as well. FPIs have been investing quite heavily in the markets and that is adding fuel to the fire, leading to markets gaining on a sustained basis. The true test would be results which begin in about 7-10 days time from now. The expectation is that they would be better than the year ago and that is what the markets are betting on. One must also keep in mind that the confusion on the state of the monsoon seems to have partly reduced with a fair outbreak of the same. The positive frame of the markets is seeing large stock sales by PE investors across companies. In most cases the size of the OFS is bigger than the size of the IPO which had come. There are some issues which seem to come across as noteworthy and raise many an eyebrow at the way they are done. One such example was the recent OFS by Credit Access Grameen Limited. The company held its investor day event in Mumbai on the 18th of May where it presented its road ahead over the next five years. In less than six weeks after the event was held, the promoters of the company on Friday sold 90 lakh shares or 5.9 per cent of the equity through block deals. Their shareholding as of 31st March was 73.68 per cent. SEBI has made it mandatory for companies to disclose their share sale plan in advance before the beginning of any financial year. Not sure whether this information is publicly available and whether it was informed by way of public dissemination on the stock exchanges. On the face of it, it looks opportunistic with an eye on current market conditions. In yet another case, the MD of Equitas SFB informed that he would not seek reappointment to the MD post and informed the same during a communication on 19th May 22. Share prices fell on expected grounds. One then found that domestic mutual funds like SBI, Sundaram, Canara and ICICI Prudential have increased their shareholding in the bank during September-October 22. Further one also gets to know that DSP acquired a 10 per cent stake in the bank during November 22 through an announcement to the exchanges. The icing on the cake is the surprise announcement in December 22 that the MD has decided to stay on as MD. On expected lines, share prices rise and all the mutual funds make a killing. Is this fair? Is this corporate governance? Is this not being unfair to small investors who have no access to information of high-level board changes? Should the regulator act on such information which is publicly available. One hopes that the chairperson of SEBI would look into these issues and have a fair and equal playing field for small and large shareholders. June futures expired on a very positive note. The series ended on Wednesday the 28th of June with gains of 650.95 points or 3.55 per cent to close at 18,972.10 points. It was a great series for the bulls with the pressure of new lifetime highs being crossed or not, being on their head continuously. In economic news, the GST collection for June 23 was at 1.61 lakh crore and was up 12 per cent. This is the 4th time that the figure has crossed 1.60 lakh. Los Angeles: Actor Hugh Jackman has announced separation from his wife, fellow actress Deborra-Lee Furness after 27 years of marriage. The Australian couple is separating on amicable terms, however, saying that they feel blessed to have had a strong marriage which lasted for nearly 30 years.
Speaking to People magazine, the Aussie couple said: "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."
They continued: "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."
The statement, signed 'Deb and Hugh Jackman', concluded: "This is the sole statement either of us will make."
The couple in their 27 years of marriage share two kids, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.

Washington [US]: Mars Williams, an American saxophone player known for his work as a member of the Waitresses and later the Psychedelic Furs, passed away at age 68, reported Variety. Williams died on Monday.
Williams' sax was a key element of the Waitresses during the group's short but impactful two-album tenure in 1980-83, heard on the signature songs "Christmas Wrapping," "Square Pegs" and "I Know What Boys Like" as well as saxophone-heavy deep cuts like the title track of their "Bruiseology" LP.
According to Variety, the Waitresses' split roughly coincided with Williams being asked by the Psychedelic Furs asking him to sit in for their absent resident sax man on an overseas tour in 1983, which turned into a tenure that extended through 1989. He then resumed his work with the Furs from 2005 through his final tour dates with the band, which wrapped up just last month in October. However, the majority of Williams' work was in jazz, particularly with experimental bands.  Downtown jazz legend John Zorn wrote liner notes for an album Williams did with Hal Russell in 1984 and called him "one of the true saxophone players -- someone who takes pleasure in the sheer act of blowing the horn. This tremendous enthusiasm is an essential part of his sound, and it comes through each note every time he plays. Whatever the situation, Mars plays exciting music. In many ways he has succeeded in redefining what versatility means to the modern saxophone player." According to his website, Williams has performed live or on record with Billy Idol (on the "Rebel Yell" tour), the Killers, Power Station, Wayne Kramer, Ministry, Bill Laswell, Charlie Hunter, Dirty Projectors, Billy Squier, DJ Logic, John Scoffield, Kurt Elling, Jerry Garcia, and the Untouchables. The musician was born in Elmhurst, Illinois in 1955 and came up playing classical clarinet for 10 years, under the influence of his trumpet-playing father, before switching to saxophone. He cited Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker as his first major influences, falling under the sway of Ornette Coleman later on. Williams had been sober for 20 years and was active with helping struggling fellow musicians through the MusiCares program, reported Variety.

As per Variety, the trailer sees Anya Taylor-Joy shaving her head to take on the role of Imperator Furiosa, the fierce war captain that Charlize Theron played in the 2015 action film. The prequel, which is the fifth entry in Miller's "Mad Max" franchise, follows a young Furiosa as she comes into her own after being taken away from the Green Place of Many Mothers and is immersed into a sinister world. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke also star in the film.  The official synopsis available on Warner Bros.' However, despite appearing to signal an advantage, referee Simon Hooper unexpectedly halted the play.  This decision triggered an outburst of fury from both the City players and their supporters, who believed that the opportunity for an advantage had been unfairly denied.  Then, several of City's stars, including Haaland were enraged by Hooper's decision, surrounding the referee to vent their fury at him, with the Norwegian appearing to shout at the official.  "Manchester City FC have been fined £120,000 after their players surrounded a match official at the Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 3 December. Manchester City FC admitted that they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way during the 94th minute. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed this sanction following a hearing," an FA statement read.  Haaland also published several posts on his social media after the match, venting his frustration at the decision, but was not charged by the governing body for the statements.
