Hailakandi: &nbsp;An associate professor of a college in Assam's Hailakandi district was arrested Saturday for allegedly sending emails to officials criticising government policies and using unparliamentary words against the state chief minister, a police officer said. Police had registered a suo moto case against the professor, leading to his arrest, he added.The officer in-charge of Hailakandi sadar police station, Ampee Daolagupu, said the accused had allegedly sent out emails to the official email account of the district superintendent of police condemning government policies and also used unparliamentary terms against the chief minister and the Education minister. He had also purportedly criticised the National Education Policy 2020 and the ongoing `Gunotsav' in the state, an exercise by the Education department to evaluate government schools in the email, Daolagupu claimed.Besides the email to the SP, he had sent similar ones to other government officials of the district also, he added.We started questioning him on Thursday and finally, today we arrested him, the OC said. When contacted, the principal of the college claimed that he had no official information regarding the arrest of the associate professor.—PTI

New Delhi (The Hawk): On Monday, a report that a bomb had been planted on a school campus in south Delhi was received. However, a police spokesman reported that no device was discovered during the search.
According to Chandan Chowdhary, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), on Monday at roughly 1:19 p.m., an email stating that there is a bomb on the school's grounds was received on the official email ID of Indian Public School, Sadiq Nagar.
The bomb squad, dog squad, and police teams arrived at the scene after the school administration promptly notified Defence Colony police station, according to the DCP.
"A comprehensive search has been conducted after the school was evacuated. Though no bomb has been discovered, "The email is also being reviewed by the cyber team, the Chowdhary stated, adding.

Mumbai News: Actress Swastika Mukherjee, who was recently seen in the streaming movie Qala, has alleged that she received threatening emails from the co-producer Sandeep Sarkar of upcoming Bengali film ‘Shibpur’ and his associates. She was allegedly informed that her pictures have been morphed and these images will be shared on pornography websites. Shocked at such a turn of events, Swastika has filed a complaint with regard to sexual harassment at Golf Green Police Station in Kolkata.

The actress has also reportedly reached out to the Eastern India Motion Pictures Association, along with scanned copies of these threat mails. While clarifying the nature of her association with the producer, the actor mentioned that she had never met the producer while shooting for ‘Shibpur’.

As per media reports, while the co-producer’s legal representative has denied his involvement in any such act they have also said that the actress took the step after she was instigated by the director of the film, Arindam Bhattacharya.

New Delhi: The Delhi Public school (DPS) on Mathura Road received a bomb threat via email on Wednesday morning, however, nothing suspicious has been found so far, said an official.

As per sources, a police control room call was received around 8:10 a.m from the school following which a police team, bomb squad rushed to the spot.

"The school was evacuated. So far, nothing suspicious has been found," said the sources.

Details are awaited.

Earlier, on April 12, a private school in Delhi was evacuated after a similar threat.

New Delhi: With the growth of Artificial Intelligence, scams, phishing and other forms of human manipulation accounted for more than 75 per cent of all digital threats in the first half of 2023 globally.
According to the consumer cyber safety brand Norton’s new report released on Thursday, cybercriminals now have added support from Artificial Intelligence (AI) in creating sophisticated scams which has led to a surge in incidents.
The report identified some of the most prominent online scams people are facing today, including -- e-shop scams, sextortion scams, and tech support scams.
“Leveraging AI, criminals are creating scams that are not only more credible but alarmingly real, making them more convincing and harder to detect. Which is why it’s so important that consumers know what to be aware of,” said Luis Corrons, Security Evangelist for Norton.
Under e-shop scams, scammers create fake online stores, offering products at unbeatable prices. Once a purchase is made, the product is never delivered, and the website disappears.
In sextortion scams, cybercriminals threaten to release private or compromising information unless a ransom is paid.
These scams often begin with phishing emails and exploit human emotions like fear and shame, the report explained.
Moreover, in tech support scams, fraudsters pose as tech support agents from reputable companies. They trick victims into granting remote access to their computers, leading to data theft or ransom demands.
In the first half of 2023 (January 1 to June 30), more than 1.5 billion threats were blocked, including 117.8 million phishing attempts, 88.9 million desktop threats, 6,80,000 mobile threats, and over 2.6 billion trackers and fingerprinting attempts, the report showed.

New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature which allows users to link their account to an email address.  As a result, instead of SMS, users can now use email verification to authenticate on WhatsApp.  The feature was previously available in a beta version of WhatsApp, and it is now available to everyone.  As noted by WABetaInfo, version 23.24.70 of WhatsApp for iOS has been released on the App Store, adding the email verification feature.  Users can use this option instead of SMS verification if they are in a place without cellular coverage and need to log in to their WhatsApp account.  To add an email address to your account, tap the Your Profile page, then the Account menu, and finally Email Address.  WhatsApp clarifies that the email address is only needed to gain access to the account and is not exposed to other users.  One thing to be noted here is that the email address is only used for authentication, so users will still need a valid phone number to use WhatsApp.  Meanwhile, WhatsApp is introducing a new voice chat feature that will be a less disruptive method to connect with large groups on the platform.  Voice chats allow you to instantly talk live with members of a group chat while still being able to message in the group.

Bengaluru: At least 15 private schools in Bengaluru on Friday morning received an email with a bomb threat on its premises, triggering panic among the staff and parents, police said.  The school authorities immediately alerted police, which reached the institutions concerned with the bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage check teams, they said.
The students and staff were immediately evacuated from the school premises, police said, adding no suspicious objects have been found yet.  As soon as parents got to know about the incident, they rushed to schools in panic to get their children back home safely.  “The email claimed that explosives had been planted on school premises. We received a call from the command centre and immediately rushed our teams to schools which are located in different parts of the city. All students and staff have been safely evacuated from the school premises and a thorough search operation is being carried out,” a senior police officer said.  So far, nothing suspicious has been found yet and prima facie looks like it’s a hoax message. Parents need not panic, our teams are on the ground, he said.  Last year also, some miscreants sent such emails claiming about a bomb threat to schools in Bengaluru, which later turned out to be a hoax message, police said.  Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar visited one of the schools which received the bomb threat. He took information from the school and the police about the situation.  “I was a bit dismayed after seeing the news on TV, as some schools I know and the one near my house were also mentioned. So I went out to check. The police have shown me the mail. Prima facie, it appears to be fake (hoax). I spoke to the police… But we should be cautious. Parents are a bit worried, no need to worry. Police are looking into it,” he said.  Shivakumar appealed to parents not to worry and said their children would be safe.  “Some mischief mongers might have done this, in 24 hours we will nab them. Cyber crime police are active, they are doing their job… We should also be cautious and should not neglect,” he added.

New Delhi: The CBI has created a dedicated e-mail ID -- sandeshkhali@cbi.gov.in -- on which victims of land grab in Sandeshkhali, a village in West Bengal, can get their complaints lodged, officials said on Thursday.
The agency has created the e-mail ID in compliance with the orders of the Calcutta High Court passed on Wednesday. "The District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas has also been requested to give adequate publicity of the said e-mail ID in the locality and also issue a public notice in the vernacular dailies having a wide circulation in the areas as per the Hon'ble High Court's order," a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will start registering cases on the basis of the complaints received by it, sources said.
