New Delhi: Some of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run schools are 'horror houses', the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) remarked after it conducted surprise inspection and found them without adequate security and sanitation facilities. In one of the school premises the DCW inspected on May 20 and 21, the panel claimed it found syringes, drugs, cigarette cases,&nbsp;gutka&nbsp;wrappers and even broken liquor bottles. The inspection came days after the panel initiated an inquiry into the condition of safety and security of students in schools after two girls allegedly faced sexual assault in an Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run school in Bhajanpura earlier this month. Bhai Mandeep Nagpal Nigam Vidhyalaya, Aruna Nagar (North), Nigam Pratibha Sah Shiksha Vidhyalaya, Kewal Park (North), Purvi Dilli Nagar Nigam Pratibha Vidhyalaya, Mustafabad (East) and Dakshini Dilli Nagar Nigam Prathmik Sah Bal Balika Vidhyalaya, Sanjay Colony, Bhati Mines (South) are the schools that were inspected. The DCW said its teams found the gates of all these four schools open and there were no security guards.After it found syringes, drugs and broken liquor bottles among other substances at the premises of the Kewal Park school, the panel said it has 'recommended filing an FIR in the matter urgently'.Most of the school buildings were severely damaged and unsafe for children, it said. 'Parts of the ceiling and walls have fallen several times in the school at Aruna Nagar and there have been several narrow escapes. In Bhati Mines, the children were forced to sit in a tin shade in scorching heat,' it said. The DCW observed that the schools did not have a single CCTV camera that was operational and that the toilets were 'extremely dirty'. 'Also, there were several toilet doors that were broken or could not be locked from inside, which raises serious concerns regarding the safety and privacy of children. In the school at Bhati Mines, the girl toilets were locked, and the boys and girls were forced to defecate in the open, as there was no water connection in the toilets,' it alleged. Further, the panel said the four schools were overcrowded and it was clear that the norms for teacher-pupil ratio were not being followed.'The DCW was informed that MCD is running summer classes for the children studying in its schools from 7.30 am to 11am. However, the mid-day meal is presently not being served in any of its schools,' it said. During the inspection, it was also found that proper benches were not available in schools. The DCW has issued a notice to MCD commissioner in this connection and sought a detailed action report by May 30. It panel has also sought details of the officials responsible for the 'dismal' condition of schools and has asked the MCD to take action against them.'These schools are horror houses where students and teachers are extremely unsafe. Mumbai:&nbsp;The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday gave a clean chit to Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in the drugs-on-cruise case, in which he was arrested last year. Besides Aryan Khan, 19 other accused were arrested in the case. All the accused, except two, are currently out on bail. In a statement, the NCB said, "Based on an input, NCB Mumbai had on October 2, 2021 intercepted Vikrant, Ishmeet, Arbaaz, Aryan and Gomit at International Port Terminal, Mumbai Port Trust, and Nupur, Mohak and Munmum at the Cordelia Cruise. All the accused persons were found in possession of narcotics except Aryan and Mohak." "Initially, the case was investigated by NCB Mumbai. Later, an SIT from NCB headquarters in New Delhi headed by Sanjay Kumar Singh, DDG (Operations), was constituted to investigate the case, which was taken over by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on November 11, 2021," the anti-drug agency said. SIT carried out its investigation in objective manner. The touchstone of the principle of proof beyond reasonable doubt has been applied. Based on the investigation carried out by the SIT, a complaint against 14 persons under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is being filed, it said, adding that complaint against rest six persons is not being filed due to lack of sufficient evidence. Meanwhile, the NCB submitted a charge-sheet in the case on Friday. It submitted the charge-sheet before the registry and the special NDPS court will take its cognizance after the verification of the documents. In March this year, the special court had granted a 60-day extension to the probe agency to file the charge-sheet.Aryan Khan was arrested in the case by the NCB on October 3 last year and was released from jail later that month after being granted bail.—PTI

It has also said that as per actor Ananya Pandey's statement to the agency, the reference to 'weed procurement' in the mobile phone chats between the two was only an extended joke. The NCB on Friday filed a charge-sheet in a Mumbai court against 14 out of 20 persons who were arrested in the case last October following a raid on a cruise ship and alleged seizure of drugs. Six accused, including Aryan Khan, were not named due to lack of evidence, the central agency said.Analysis of statements of Arbaaz Merchant, a co-accused, showed that Merchant never claimed that the 6 gm charas recovered from his possession was meant for consumption by Aryan, the charge-sheet noted.Aryan too, in his voluntary statements, never accepted that the recovered charas was meant for him, it added." In fact, Arbaaz in his statement of October 6, 2021, stated that he was warned by Aryan Khan not to carry any narcotic drug on to the cruise," the NCB said.Also, none of the chats recovered from Aryan's mobile phone (which had not been formally seized) connected him to the present case, it said."No recovery of drugs from Aryan Khan and non-availability of any concrete evidence which could prove role of Aryan Khan or his conspiracy with Arbaaz A Merchant or any other accused in the instant case beyond reasonable doubt, surfaced up during the investigation carried so far. Hence, no complaint is being filed against him in the instant case," the charge-sheet said.But the charge sheet mentioned that in one of his statements, Aryan accepted that he had consumed marijuana when he was in Los Angeles, United States "on experimental basis for recreational purpose," and also accepted his WhatsApp chats with another accused Aachit for drug procurement.Aryan stated that they talked about buying "Dokha", a word used for weed, it said.Aryan also admitted to his chat conversation with actor Ananya Pandey regarding weed procurement, the charge-sheet claimed.But Ananya, in her statement, said the chats related to weed were "in jest and it was a joke in an attempt to be funny," the charge-sheet said. "She told (the agency) that all the chats held with Aryan were an extension of the same joke as mentioned earlier. Ananya Pandey told that Aryan is lying and she is completely unaware why Aryan said something like this," the charge-sheet claimed.Upon search of her house no illicit contraband was found, however, some electronic gadgets were seized, the charge-sheet said.—PTI

Panaji: The Goa Police on Thursday arrested a jail security guard for allegedly supplying drugs to a prisoner of Colvale jail in North Goa, a police officer said. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi, Colvale Police have arrested one Sandesh Varak, 28, in this connection. “After receiving information that the accused person was coming with drugs to supply to a prisoner, a raid was conducted by police, wherein we found ‘Ganja’ weighing 208 grams and 7 grams of cocaine, all valued at Rs 1,04,000, in his possession,” Dalvi said.The accused person was employed by Goa human resource development corporation, and he was posted at Colvale Jail. Dalvi said that during investigation it was revealed that the accused person had conspired with a prisoner Satish Koli in Colvale Jail to procure and supply the drugs. “We will take custody of Satish Koli to investigate this matter,” Dalvi said. The case has been registered under sections 20(b)(ii)(A) of NDPS act.—IANS

Houston: Chemists have demonstrated that light-activated molecular machines can drill holes through gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria membranes, killing them in as little as two minutes. Their study suggests a new way to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which lack natural defences against mechanical intruders. The study has been published in the journal, "Science Advances, 2022" The latest iteration of nanoscale drills developed at Rice University is activated by visible light rather than ultraviolet (UV), as in earlier versions. These have also proven effective at killing bacteria through tests on real infections.Six variants of molecular machines were successfully tested by Rice chemist James Tour and his team. All of them punched holes in the membranes of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria in as little as two minutes. Resistance was futile for bacteria that have no natural defences against mechanical invaders. That means they are unlikely to develop resistance, potentially offering a strategy to defeat bacteria that have become immune to standard antibacterial treatments over time. "I tell students that when they are my age, antibiotic-resistant bacteria are going to make COVID look like a walk in the park," Tour said. "Antibiotics won't be able to keep 10 million people a year from dying of bacterial infections. But this really stops them." Because extended exposure to UV can be damaging to humans, the Rice lab has been refining its molecules for years. The new version gets its energy from still-blueish light at 405 nanometers, spinning the molecules' rotors at 2 to 3 million times per second. It's been suggested by other researchers that light at that wavelength has mild antibacterial properties of its own, but the addition of molecular machines supercharges it, said Tour, who suggested bacterial infections like those suffered by burn victims and people with gangrene will be early targets.The machines are based on Nobel Prize-winning work by Bernard Feringa, who developed the first molecule with a rotor in 1999 and got the rotor to spin reliably in one direction. Tour and his team introduced their advanced drills in a 2017 Nature paper. The Rice lab's first tests of the new molecules on burn wound infection models confirmed their ability to quickly kill bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a common cause of skin and soft tissue infections that was responsible for more than 100,000 deaths in 2019. The team achieved visible light activation by adding a nitrogen group. "The molecules were further modified with different amines in either the stator (stationary) or the rotor portion of the molecule to promote the association between the protonated amines of the machines and the negatively charged bacterial membrane," said Liu, now a scientist at Arcus Biosciences in California.The researchers also found the machines effectively break up biofilms and persister cells, which become dormant to avoid antibacterial drugs. "Even if an antibiotic kills most of a colony, there are often a few persister cells that for some reason don't die," Tour said. "But that doesn't matter to the drills." As with earlier versions, the new machines also promise to revive antibacterial drugs considered ineffective. "Drilling through the microorganisms' membranes allows otherwise ineffective drugs to enter cells and overcome the bug's intrinsic or acquired resistance to antibiotics," said Santos, who's on the third year of the postdoctoral global fellowship that brought her to Rice for two years and is continuing at the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands in Palma, Spain.The lab is working toward better targeting bacteria to minimize damage to mammalian cells by linking bacteria-specific peptide tags to the drills to direct them toward pathogens of interest. "But even without that, the peptide can be applied to a site of bacterial concentration, like in a burn wound area," Santos said.—ANI

Washington: Triptans, a commonly prescribed class of migraine drugs, may also be useful in treating obesity, a new study suggests. In studies on obese mice, a daily dose of triptan led animals to eat less food and lose weight over the course of a month. "We've shown that there is real potential to repurpose these drugs, which are already known to be safe, for appetite suppression and weight loss," said study leader Chen Liu, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Neuroscience and an investigator in the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute.Obesity affects more than 41% of all adults in the U.S. and increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Most treatments for obesity focus on eating habits and physical activity.Scientists have long known that serotonin, a chemical messenger found throughout the brain and body, plays a key role in appetite. However, there are 15 different serotonin receptors -- molecules that sense serotonin and signal for cells to change their behavior in response. Researchers have struggled to understand the role of each serotonin receptor in appetite, and previous drugs -- including fen-phen and lorcaserin (Belviq) -- that targeted certain individual receptors have been withdrawn from the market due to side effects.Triptans, which are used to treat acute migraines and cluster headaches, work by targeting a different receptor -- the serotonin 1B receptor (Htr1b) -- that had not previously been well studied in the context of appetite and weight loss, said Dr. Liu.For the new study, the researchers tested six prescription triptans in obese mice that were fed a high-fat diet for seven weeks. Mice fed two of these drugs ate about the same amount, but mice fed the other four ate less. After 24 days, mice given a daily dose of the drug frovatriptan lost, on average, 3.6% of their body weight, while mice not given a triptan gained an average of 5.1% of their body weight. Dr. Liu and his colleagues saw similar results when they implanted devices into the animals that gave them a steady dose of frovatriptan for 24 days."We found that these drugs, and one in particular, can lower body weight and improve glucose metabolism in less than a month, which is pretty impressive," said Dr. Liu.Since triptans are generally prescribed for short-term use during migraines, Dr. Liu suspects that patients would not have noticed the longer-term impacts on appetite and weight in the past.To determine exactly how frovatriptan impacts food intake and weight, the researchers engineered mice to lack either Htr1b or Htr2c, the serotonin receptor targeted by fen-phen and lorcaserin. In mice without Htr1b, frovatriptan no longer could decrease appetite or cause weight loss, while cutting out Htr2c had no effect. This confirmed that the drug worked by targeting the serotonin 1B receptor."This finding could be important for drug development," said Dr. Liu. "We not only shed light on the potential to repurpose existing triptans but also brought attention to Htr1b as a candidate to treat obesity and regulate food intake." The team went on to show exactly which neurons in the brain were most important for the role of Htr1b in mediating appetite, homing in on a small group of cells within the brain's hypothalamus.&nbsp;—ANI

Guwahati/Diphu :&nbsp;Huge quantities of heroin and cannabis, worth over Rs four crore, were seized and five people arrested from Assam's Karimganj and Karbi Anglong districts, police said on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, Karimganj police stepped up patrolling along the Assam-Mizoram border and intercepted a vehicle coming from the neighbouring state at Baraigram under Patharkandi police station of the district late on Thursday night. During search of the vehicle, 477 gm of heroin, packed in 39 soap boxes and hidden inside the fuel tank and in a secret chamber in the mudguard of the vehicle was seized. One person was arrested in this connection and the seized drugs were estimated to be worth over Rs three crore in the international market, police said. In another incident, a joint team of police and CRPF seized 477 kg of cannabis from a vehicle, coming from Dimapur in neighbouring Nagaland, at Khakrajan under Barpathar police station in Karbi Anglong district on Friday. The vehicle had a sticker 'Army on Duty' pasted on it but the police on suspicion carried out a search and recovered 46 packets of cannabis from the hood of the truck. One person was arrested in this connection. The value of the seized contraband was estimated to be over Rs 50 lakh, police said. A police team seized around 122.22 gm of heroin, hidden in soap boxes, and around Rs 5,000 from two persons, coming in a motorbike from Dimapur in neighbouring Nagaland, at Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong district during routine patrolling on Thursday evening. The police claimed that the seized heroin will be worth around Rs 80 lakh in the international market. --- (PTI)

Drugs Controller and Drugs Inspector in the year 2022-23.Further, Department of Pharmaceuticals has launched a scheme, namely, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). Under the scheme, Generic Medicines are sold through dedicated outlets namely Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs). It is an initiative of Government of India towards making an impact on common masses to provide quality medicines at affordable prices. As on 30.06.2022, 8,742 Janaushadhi Kendras have been opened across the country and the product basket of PMBJP comprises 1,616 drugs and 250 surgical items. The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.

Anand (Central Gujarat): Anand Special Operation Group (SOG) team has arrested four youths with 19.680 gram MDMA drugs, the market value of which is Rs 1.96 lakh. One of the accused is Rohan Raiyani, whose father Suresh Raiyani is BJP's Rajkot Taluka Committee Secretary and also Sarpanch of Gunda village.SOG Inspector G. N. Parmar said to local media: "Police carried out checking on Malataj-Dabhoi road. While checking the vehicle GJ-03-LB-0034, the police team found MDMA packets from four passengers. Its weight is 19.680 grams and its market values Rs 1.96 lakh. New Delhi (The Hawk): The manufacturing licenses for generic drugs and new drugs are granted by the various State Drug Controllers and the Drug Controller General of India (under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) respectively.&nbsp;A common list of all such manufacturers of generic drugs in the private sector is not maintained in the Department of Pharmaceuticals.&nbsp;However, three PSUs under Department of Pharmaceuticals viz.&nbsp;Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited (BCPL) in West Bengal, Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL) in Maharashtra and Karnataka Antibiotics &amp; Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL) in Karnataka manufacturers generic medicines.&nbsp;The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana&nbsp;(PMBJP) was launched by the Department with an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to citizens of the country.&nbsp;Under the Scheme, dedicated outlets known as&nbsp;Pradhan Mantri Bhartiyta Janaushadhi Kendras&nbsp;(PMBJPs) are opened to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices.&nbsp;Under the PMBJP, till 30.06.2022, 8742 PMBJKs have been opened across the country including Government Hospitals and Government premises.&nbsp;The Scheme has a product basket of 1,616 medicines and 250 surgical supplies.&nbsp;Prices of medicines sold through these outlets are 50-90% less than that of branded medicines prices in the open market.&nbsp;Public Health and Hospitals, being the State subject, the responsibility of providing medicines lies with the respective State Governments and the details of medicines prescribed and provided to the patients are not available with the Department of Pharmaceuticals.&nbsp;Under National Health Mission (NHM), support is provided for provision of essential generic drugs free of cost in public health facilities. Further, CGHS procures generic medicine through Medical Store Organisation of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.&nbsp;This information was given by Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri Bhagwanth Khuba in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

Rule 158-B in the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 provides the regulatory guidelines for issue of license to manufacture Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani medicines and Rule 85 (A to I)in the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 provides the regulatory guidelines for issue of license to manufacture Homoeopathic medicines. It is mandatory for the manufacturers to adhere to the prescribed requirements for licensing of manufacturing units &amp; medicines including proof of safety &amp; effectiveness, compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as per Schedule T &amp; Schedule M-Iof Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 and quality standards of drugs given in the respective pharmacopoeia.Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine &amp; Homoeopathy (PCIM&amp;H), a subordinate office under Ministry of Ayush lays down Pharmacopocial Standards and Formulary specifications for Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU&amp;H) drugs within the ambit of Drugs &amp; Cosmetics Act, 1940, which serve as official compendia for ascertaining the quality of the drugs included therein.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Further, PCIM&amp;H as an appellate drug testing laboratory receives the samples from Government agencies as per Drugs &amp; Cosmetics Act &amp; Rules there under for ascertaining their quality.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM) as per the proposals received from State/UT Governments through their State Annual Action Plans, an amount of Rs. 10723.14 Lakhs has been approved under the component of quality control of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani &amp; Homeopathy drugs (ASU&amp;H drugs) for different activities including quality testing of drugs from the year 2014-15 to 2019-20.Ministry of Ayush has implemented Central Sector Scheme AYUSH Oushadhi Gunvatta Evam Uttpadan Samvardhan Yojana (AOGUSY). The objectives of the Scheme are as under;i. To enhance India's manufacturing capabilities and exports of traditional medicines and health promotion products under the initiative of Atmanirbhar Bharat.ii. Pharmacovigilance of ASU&amp;H drugs including surveillance of misleading advertisements.C. Strengthening of Central and State regulatory frameworks including Technical Human Resource &amp; Capacity Building programs for Ayush drugs.D. Support for development of standards and accreditation/ certification of Ayush products &amp; materials in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Quality Control of India (QCI) and other relevant scientific institutions and industrial R&amp;D centres.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;AYUSH Oushadhi Gunvatta Evam Uttpadan Samvardhan Yojana (AOGUSY) was approved by Standing Finance Committee (SFC) on 16.03.2021. Mumbai:&nbsp;In a major haul, the Mumbai Police' Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) has made drug seizures worth a stupendous Rs 1,403-crore from Nala Sopara town in Palghar district, which borders Gujarat state, officials said here on Thursday.The ANC nabbed a person with the 702 kgs of Mephedrone from Sitaram Building in Chakradhar Nagar area of Nala Sopara on Wednesday night worth a total of Rs 1,403.5 crore, and arrested two suppliers.The latest drugs haul became possible after the interrogation of two other drug peddlers plus a woman, who were nabbed by the ANC on March 29 from Govandi in north-east Mumbai.Of the arrested trio, one was caught with 250 gms Mephedrone valued at Rs 37.50 lakh and the other with 2.70 kgs of Mephedrone worth Rs 4.14 crore in the market.After sustained interrogation, the woman accused revealed details on their two associates of whom one was picked up late on Tuesday (August 2) and the fifth was caught with the narcotics consignment on Wednesday (August 3).The ANC said that among the accused are a couple of qualified chemists with knowledge of organic chemistry required to produce the Mephedrone drugs which are much in demand.The woman accused along with the others kept their identity secret and sought clients on social media and supplied the drugs to their clientele in different parts of Mumbai and surroundings.The teams which cracked one of the biggest narcotics supply racket comprised police officials like Inspector Sandeep Kale, guided by ACP Savlaram Agavale, DCP Datta Nalawade, Additional Police Commissioner Viresh Prabhu, Joint Police Commissioner Suhas Warke and Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar along with the field teams of ANC Worli Unit.—IANS

New Delhi:&nbsp;A campaign to encourage people to quit drugs will be launched on Tuesday here as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Union minister Kaushal Kishore said. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will be the chief guest at the launch of Hindustaniyo Nasha Chhodo (Indians, quit drugs) campaign, while Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh will preside over by the event. Kishore, the minister of state for housing and urban affairs, would be the keynote speaker. Addressing a press conference, Kishore said, "I lost my son (Aakash Kishore) to alcohol in 2020 and I pledged to make India drugs free. Then I started a campaign and so far 18 lakh people have pledged to not do drugs and 10,000 have stopped using drugs." "As India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mohastuv, we have decided to launch a campaign Hindustaniyo Nasha Chodo' on August 9 at Delhi University's Sports Complex," he added. As a part of the campaign, every person associated with it will pledge to add one person every month with the campaign and help in making India drugs free.—PTI

Mumbai:&nbsp;The Narcotics Control Bureau has seized large quantities of different drugs collectively worth Rs 5 crore in three operations in Mumbai and neighbouring Raigad and arrested three persons, an official said on Monday.Acting on a specific information, the NCB's Mumbai zonal unit seized 870 grams of hydroponic weed last Tuesday in a courier parcel from a Foreign Post Office here.The parcel was sent from the US for a Nagpur-based receiver, the official said.While an investigation was on into it, the NCB on Friday got an input about 4.95 kg of methaqualone being transported in a courier parcel in Mumbai.After conducting a search, the NCB seized the parcel, which was booked from Nagpur to be sent to New Zealand, the official said.Since Nagpur was the common location for both the courier parcels, a team was then dispatched to the Maharashtra city for a follow-up investigation into both the cases, he said.Various aspects are being analysed and enquiries are being conducted to identify the syndicates involved in the international drug trafficking, the official said.In the third operation, the NCB busted an inter-state drug trafficking syndicate on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at Karjat in Raigad district near Mumbai-Pune Expressway, he said.The agency had information about possible transportation of bulk quantity of a drug by an active syndicate, he said.Accordingly, the NCB laid a trap near Karjat and intercepted a vehicle.When enquired, the vehicle's driver did not give satisfactory replies, following which the NCB officials searched the vehicle.They recovered 88 kg of high quality ganja from false cavities created inside the vehicle, the official said.The NCB team apprehended two more persons from a highway-side eatery, he said, adding that the duo was given the task of receiving and guiding the drug-carrying vehicle's driver towards destination in Mumbai.The consignment, sourced from Andhra Pradesh, was meant for further distribution to drug peddlers based in Mumbai and suburban areas, the official said.These persons are seasoned traffickers and were into the illicit drug business for more than four years, he said.While planning a consignment delivery, they used to not only change their contact numbers, but also the vehicle number plates to avoid physical tracking by the enforcement agency, he said.The three persons are being questioned to gather more information about other drug peddlers, supply links and key associates to dismantle the remaining network, the official said.—PTI

Mumbai NCB seizes drugs worth Rs 5 cr; 3 arrested

New Delhi (The Hawk): The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and ATS, Gujarat have jointly apprehended a Pakistani boat with six crew, carrying approximately 40 kilograms of drugs worth Rs 200 crore, from Indian waters. On the intervening night of September 13-14, 2022, the ICG, on the basis of intelligence inputs by ATS Gujarat, strategically deployed two fast interceptor class of ships - C-408 and C-454 - for patrolling in the area close to notional International Maritime Border Line (IMBL). A Pakistani boat was spotted moving suspiciously in Indian waters, five nautical miles inside notional IMBL and 40 nautical miles from Jakhau. On being challenged, the Pakistani boat over boarded a consignment and started evasive manoeuvring. Braving rough seas, the ICG ships intercepted the boat and apprehended it.&nbsp;
The boat is being brought to Jakhau for further joint investigation. This is the fifth such joint operation by the ICG and ATS, Gujarat in last one year. It highlights the importance of effective coordination amongst stakeholders for robust coastal security network.

Guwahati (The Hawk): On Saturday, the Assam Police in the Karbi Anglong district seized a shipment of illegal substances with an estimated street value of Rs 15 crore.
Those drugs were found in a car that had been travelling from Manipur. The police knew about the cocaine shipment in transit. As a result, the Bokajan subdistrict established a Naka checking post at Dilai Tiniali.
John Das, the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bokajan, explained that they had found 4 kilogrammes of morphine secreted in the rear of a car with the registration number UP-14BV-4234 that had been intercepted on its way from Manipur.
Hemkholal Lunkin (age 37) and Jangminlal Haokip (age 30) were two more drug dealers apprehended by the police (38). Both suspects have Manipuri ancestry.
The source from the police department further mentioned that the estimated market value of the drugs was Rs 15 crore.
A formal complaint has been filed under the National Domestic Violence Act. The inquiry is now being conducted.
On Wednesday morning, Assam police in the Karbi Anglong district found and confiscated a massive haul of illegal substances. Four suspected drug traffickers were arrested, and two vehicles were seized by the police.

Dineshpur (The Hawk): As part of the campaign to stop the growing trend of drugs among children, the police went to the Atal Utkrisht Late Chittaranjan Raha Inter College and informed the students about the ill-effects of drugs, and called upon them to stay away from it. Students were also briefed about traffic rules and cyber crime. Police Station President Anil Upadhyay reached the college with police personnel on Tuesday. The police team talked to the students and told them about the ill-effects of drugs. Said that the young generation should stay away from drugs and get better education and increase the respect of their family members. Students were made aware by giving information about traffic rules. Along with giving information about cyber crimes, told about protection from it. Asked the students to inform the police about any kind of misbehavior happening to them. The teachers of the college were also appealed to make the students aware against drugs and keep a constant vigil on them. SI Naveen Joshi, Principal Madhusudan Mishra, Subhash Shukla, Manoj Pandey, Santosh Tamta etc were present.

Singh Mehta resident Tripuri no. 1 was arrested with 20 liters of raw liquor.
&nbsp;Police registered an FIR against the accused and registered charges under Section 60 Excise Act. Police Station President Anil Upadhyay told that the campaign against drugs will continue. Constables Ranjit Lal and Bhagat Singh were among those arrested.

Police Campaign Against Drugs Continues

Guwahati (The Hawk): Along the Assam-Nagaland border in the Karbi Anglong district, Assam Police officers detained three people and seized drugs worth Rs 7 crore, according to officials on Friday.
A police officer reported that late on Thursday night, a police team stopped two lorries in the Khatkhati region near the Assam-Nagaland border and found 30,000 extremely addictive Yaba tablets and 757.15 gm of heroin.
A case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act) after the arrest of three drug dealers.
Police assume that the drugs were transported from Myanmar as Nagaland shares a 215-km-long unfenced border with the bordering country.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, expressed his gratitude for the police's efforts in a tweet that read, "Yet another huge catch by Assam police. Police intercepted two trucks, coming from neighbouring states, and seized 30,000 Yaba tablets &amp; 55 soap cases containing 757.15 gramme Heroin. Also apprehended three accused. Good job."
