The doctor should have Godly compassion, kindness to serve."Referring to the connection between spirituality and governance since ancient times, Bommai said, "It is possible to make the state prosperous with spiritual and native knowledge. It is the objective of the State government to serve the weaker sections. I have a good team of Ministers to deliver on development works in the state. Health and education sectors have been accorded top priority. About 7,000 new classrooms are being built and 100 primary health centres are being upgraded."He expressed happiness that the event was being held on Buddha Jayanti Day and said Buddha discarded worldly pleasures to seek knowledge and it is most appropriate that the convocation was being held on this auspicious day. Referring to conferring Doctorate degree to Adichunchanagiri Mutt Seer Nirmalananda Swamiji by Rajiv Gandhi University, Bommai said, "it is most appropriate as he is a unique Guru in science and spirituality. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rajkumar Aggarwal said Dr Ram Krishna Verma was arrested following an FIR was lodged against him at the Bahedi Police station." The case against the doctor was lodged a couple of days ago on the complaint of the staff nurse. As per her complaint, the doctor sexually harassed her while on duty at a primary health centre in the Mudia Nabibaksh area and hit her when she objected to it."Following initial probe into the matter, we arrested the accused on Friday evening. Melbourne: According to a new study by the University of Melbourne, doctor's mood affects their work and chance of medical negligence.Australian doctors are more likely to be sued for medical negligence if they are unhappy, overworked, working in rural areas, or if they have suffered a recent injury or illness according to new research from the University of Melbourne.Published today in the British Medical Journal, the Australian-first study also found that doctors with an "agreeable" personality were less likely to be sued.The research team led by Dr Owen Bradfield and Professor Matthew Spittal, analysed the responses of over 12,000 Australian doctors to the Medicine in Australia Balancing Employment and Life (MABEL) survey between 2013 and 2018.Doctors who completed the survey answered questions about their age, sex, specialty, personality, health, life satisfaction, working conditions, and whether they had previously been sued."This allowed us to analyse and correlate work, health and personality factors with a doctor's risk of being sued," Dr Bradfield said.Just over five per cent of the doctors surveyed reported being named in a medical negligence claim during this period. The findings were more pronounced for male doctors than female."It is critical that we try to better understand why some doctors are sued. A mistake by a doctor can have tragic consequences for patients and can be costly for the health system," Dr Bradfield said."Patients who suffer harm from a medical error can sue the doctor concerned in order to seek redress, answers, and assurances that mistakes will not be repeated. Pratapgarh: A case was registered against five people, including two doctors, on the basis of a colleague's complaint alleging that casteist remarks were made against him here, police said on Monday.Circle Officer (City) Abhay Ram Pandey said Dr Sachin Pasi, head of the orthopaedic department at the Pratapgarh Medical College, in his police complaint alleged that Dr Jai Prakash Verma of the same department takes the patients to his private clinic for treatment, and when he opposed it, casteist remarks were hurled at him.Pasi also claimed that Verma's remarks were supported by Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) Dr Anuj Chaurasia, electrician Ajay Kumar Sharma, Abhishek Dubey and an unidentified person.Police said the case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.—PTI

Noida / Raipur: A Chhattisgarh Police team camping in Noida to arrest a TV news anchor over a 'doctored video' of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to return Thursday, with officials saying it is exploring legal options against its counterparts in Noida and Ghaziabad.The 11-member team from Raipur, led by a deputy superintendent of police, landed in Ghaziabad on Tuesday morning to arrest Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan. The anchor and others have been booked for airing the misleading video on his show on July 1. However, the team from Congress-governed Chhattisgarh could not arrest Ranjan as police officials from Noida and Ghaziabad in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Uttar Pradesh whisked him away a few hours earlier.On Wednesday, the visiting police team issued summons to Ranjan and some of his colleagues to join the probe in Raipur on July 12 to get their statements recorded in connection with the first information report (FIR) lodged there. Ranjan was arrested by the Noida police in connection with a probe into a case lodged by it on a complaint by Zee Media group over the video. The Noida police on Tuesday night announced it had released Ranjan from the police station itself following an inquiry as the offence invoked in the case was a bailable one, while the Chhattisgarh police team, which had an arrest warrant and a court order for his arrest, declared the anchor an 'absconder' on Wednesday."The Chhattisgarh police team had come to arrest the TV anchor but the local police in Ghaziabad and Noida obstructed the procedure. The accused is now untraceable, and the local police are not sharing any information about his whereabouts," an official privy to the probe told PTI."The team from Raipur is expected to return home later on Thursday. They are now seeking legal options available to them against the Ghaziabad and Noida police," the official claimed.Meanwhile, the anchor, who is facing several FIRs in different states for the doctored video, on Thursday again sought urgent hearing from the Supreme Court on his plea seeking protection from coercive action for the alleged offence. A vacation bench headed by Justice Indira Banerjee, which had on Wednesday ordered listing of the plea for hearing on Thursday, said it was awaiting assignment from the chief justice.—PTI

New Delhi (The Hawk): As per information provided by National Medical Commission (NMC), there are 13,08,009 allopathic doctors registered with the State Medical Councils and the National Medical Commission (NMC) as on June, 2022. Assuming 80% availability of registered allopathic doctors and 5.65 lakh AYUSH doctors, the doctor-population ratio in the country is 1:834 which is better than the WHO standard of 1:1000. Also, there are 34.33 lakh registered nursing personnel and 13 lakh Allied and Healthcare Professionals in the country.The Government has taken following steps to further increase the availability of doctors in the country, particularly in underserved regions. The number of UG seats have increased from 51,348 before 2014 to 91,927 seats which is an increase of 79%. The numbers of PG seats have increased by 93% from 31,185 seats in 2014 to 60,202 seats. The steps to increase doctor-patients ratio include: -Centrally Sponsored Scheme for establishment of new medical college by upgrading district/ referral hospital under which 157 new medical colleges have been approved and 72 are already functional.Centrally Sponsored Scheme for strengthening/ upgradation of existing State Government/Central Government Medical Colleges to increase MBBS and PG seats.Central Sector Scheme for upgradation of Government Medical Colleges by construction of Super Specialty Blocks. A total of 75 projects have been approved and 55 have been completed.Under Central Sector Scheme for setting up of new AIIMS, 22 AIIMS have been approved. Undergraduate courses have started in 19 AIIMS.Relaxation in the norms for setting up of Medical College in terms of requirement for faculty, staff, bed strength and other infrastructure.DNB qualification has been recognized for appointment as faculty to take care of shortage of faculty.Enhancement of age limit for appointment/ extension/ re-employment against posts of teachers/dean/principal/ director in medical colleges upto 70 years.The tenure of Senior Residency for appointment of Assistant Professor have reduced from three year to one year.Under the District Residency Programme (DRP), all the doctors admitted to PG courses from 2022 onwards, to serve in the district hospitals for three months mandatorily. Further, with a view to augment the availability of qualified manpower in field of mental health, the Government, under National Mental Health Programme (NMHP), implements manpower development schemes for establishment of Centres of Excellence and strengthening/ establishment of Post Graduate (PG) Departments in mental health specialties. Support has been provided for establishment of 25 Centres of Excellence and strengthening/ establishment of 47 Post Graduate (PG) Departments in mental health specialties in the country. The Government also augments the availability of manpower to deliver mental healthcare services in the underserved areas of the country by providing online training courses to various categories of general healthcare medical and para medical professionals through the Digital Academies established at the three Central Mental Health Institutes namely National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bengaluru, Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur, Assam, and Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi.Besides the above, the Government has announced a “National Tele Mental Health Programme” in the Budget of 2022-23, to further improve access to quality mental health counselling and care services in the country. Bengaluru:&nbsp;Karnataka Police on Tuesday filed a case against a doctor for making casteist remarks on the family of a patient, who questioned him on flawed treatment in Doddaballapur town of Bengaluru Rural district.The accused doctor, identified as Dr Adimurthy, is a resident of Veerabhadra Palya in Doddaballapur city. According to police, Gangaraja Shiravaara, a resident of Tippapura Road in Doddaballapur had consulted him at home clinic after his son G. Nagendra developed symptoms of jaundice.Dr Adimurthy had given an injection and some tablets. However, the patient developed swelling at the spot where injection was made. When the matter was brought to the notice of Dr Adimurthy, he maintained nothing had happened and said water had filled in.The doctor had taken out the water, given another injection and also saline. However, as the pain became intolerable for the patient Nagendra, his parents shifted him to the hospital.The doctors in the hospital identified that the tumour had developed at the spot where injection was administered. The doctors conducted a surgery to remove the tumour and advised the patient to take 15 days of rest.When the parents of the patient questioned Dr Adimurthy for misleading them, the accused used casteist remarks and abusive language against them, police said.The parents later told the police that their son had given UPSC Prelims exam and was preparing for Mains. Chandigarh: Only 53 per cent of children under three years are breastfed within one hour of birth in Punjab, which should be more than 90 per cent.Also, only 55.5 per cent of them are exclusively breastfed for up to six months.The fact came to light in a panel discussion, organised by Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) chapter of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics and the Human Milk Bank Association (HMB), as part of World Breastfeeding Week that is observed from August 1 to August 7 to raise awareness on the significance of breastfeeding and also encourage people to nurture and promote the practice. Speaking on an ideal Diet for working breastfeeding mothers, Balraj Yadav, pediatrician and joint organising secretary with the IYCF, said all mothers can continue to breastfeed exclusively as a working mother for the first six months with the strategies most suitable to them depending upon the circumstances.If possible, the baby can be taken along to the workplace, especially if a creche facility is available near the workplace.However, if the workplace is near to the residing place one may be able to go home and breastfeed during breaks or ask the caretaker to bring the child to the workplace for it, he said.In case the workplace is far and the baby cannot be taken along, benefits of exclusive breastfeeding can still be given to the baby by expressing breast milk soon after the baby is born. Working mothers can express milk before going to work and leave it for their baby.Yadav said the caregiver should be taught to give breast milk properly and carefully to the baby when the mother is away for work.Expressed breast milk stays in a good condition for at least eight hours even during summers when kept in a cool and dark place, and 24 hours in the refrigerator.Another expert, H.B. Mallikarjuna demonstrated how most babies born with a cleft lip (and no cleft palate) feed well without any special equipment. The only change needed might be positioning the nipple so the baby can latch.He said in the presence of a cleft palate, breastfeeding in the traditional manner is often not recommended, but there are alternative methods for providing breast milk to the baby with appropriate equipment.According to Lalan Bharti, the added advantages of breast milk to low birth weight babies are that they are less prone to sepsis and have better weight gain and head growth with improvement in neurodevelopment outcome. Moreover, the mortality rates are lowered in these babies compared to formula-fed babies.Kanya Mukhopadhyay of the Department of Paediatrics in the PGI in Chandigarh said the WHO and UNICEF recommend initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of birth, feeding infants only breast milk for the first six months and continued breastfeeding up to two years or beyond, with the introduction of nutritionally adequate and safe complementary solid foods at six months. —IANS

Dr Arvind Akela is associated with Hindu organisations, about which he keeps making statements. A few days ago at night, he received a call over WhatsApp which he did not answer.
Talking to ANI, Dr Arvind said, "I got a Whatsapp call on September 1, with a display picture of a masked man. I took the call then and got another call the next day. The caller threatened to behead me since I am a staunch Hindu believer".
SSP Ghaziabad Muniraj G told ANI, "Yesterday a doctor came and complained that he had received a threatening call on WhatsApp. FIR has been registered. We've given the number to the cyber cell for tracking. He (the doctor) has not asked for security yet". The police are probing the matter further. —ANI

Bengaluru: In a shocking case, the Karnataka Police have cracked the murder mystery of a Chennai-based doctor in Bengaluru. The probe has revealed that the young doctor was killed by his fiance for allegedly releasing her and her mother's private videos on social media, police said on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Dr Vikas, 27, and the accused have been identified as his fiance 25-year-old Pratipa, a resident of Mico Layout, her friend Susheel (25) and Gowtham (27). The police have launched a hunt for the other accused called Surya. Vikas was fatally attacked on September 10 and he succumbed on September 18 at a private hospital. The incident took place in the limits of Begur police station of Bengaluru. According to police, Dr Vikas and accused Pratipa hailed from Chennai. Pratipa worked as an architect. They got introduced to each other through social media two years ago. They fell in love and announced it to their families. After getting the consent, they fixed their marriage for next year in November. Dr Vikas had completed his medicine course in Ukraine and practiced in Chennai. He had come to Bengaluru for coaching regarding pursuing his course further for six months, and they started living together. During this time, Dr Vikas made private videos of his fiance Pratipa. He had recorded her mother's videos also, police said. Later, he had opened a fake account on social media and published the private videos, which had gone viral. Police said that both Vikas and Pratipa's families fought over the issue. Pratipa was hurt with the development and shared it with her other accused friends. Susheel invited Dr Vikas to his home on September 10 and when he came, the accused assaulted him with a mop stick and other weapons, police said. Further investigation was on.

Basti: Three doctors of a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district have been booked for gang rape. According to reports, a Lucknow woman approached the SSP of Basti district and handed over her complaint alleging that the accused gang raped her after one of them befriended her on a social media platform around seven weeks ago. The Basti police have registered an FIR under the IPC sections 376-D for gang rape, 504 for insulting and 506 for criminal intimidation at Sadar police station. An investigation in the matter was initiated on Thursday. Circle Officer (CO) City, Alok Prasad said that the FIR has been registered against two doctors posted at Kaili Hospital in Basti and their doctor friend in this connection to the complaint provided by the woman. He said the police are further investigating the matter and the medical examination of the woman as well as the process of recording her statement under CrPC section 164 before the judicial magistrate is under process. The CO said so far, no arrests have been made in the matter and it will be done as per the findings of the investigation. In her complaint, the woman said that one Dr Siddharth working with Kaili hospital befriended her on the social media website and she visited Basti to meet him on August 10. She alleged that the doctor took her to a room in the hostel of Kaili hospital and forcibly made sexual relations. She alleged that the doctor then called up his two other friends, and they also raped her.&nbsp;

Agra: A doctor and his two children died on Wednesday after a fire broke out in a home cum private hospital in the Shah Ganj area of Uttar Pradesh's Agra.
The fire brigade personnel successfully managed to shift four patients to a nearby nursing home after rescue operations.
Police officials said Dr Rajan, owner of the Madhu Raj Hospital, his son and daughter could not be saved, but some other family members staying on the top floor were safely shifted.
Meanwhile, in a major drive by the state government, after the Lucknow hotel fire, more than 20 hotels and hospitals have been served notices, while three have been sealed, for not being equipped with the required fire fighting systems.
The chief medical officer (CMO) has asked the Indian Medical Association for cooperation to identify hospitals and nursing homes, lacking facilities for fire fighting.
More than a thousand establishments, hospitals and labs, are registered with the health department, but scores of private centres are running without permission. Of these 412 are nursing homes. These will be identified and sealed soon, he said. A massive campaign would be launched soon.

Police were called when the alleged victim of rape said that the accused couple had raped her on April 30 while she was at the hospital receiving treatment.
The woman was tranquillized by the accused couple, according to the complaint, before being raped.
"An FIR of gangrape under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376-D and other appropriate charges has been recorded at the Mahanagar police station against the doctor and the ward boy," stated S.M. Qasim Abidi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North.
According to DCP Abidi, the doctor has been cleared of the rape charge and has pled innocent.
The victim had arrived at the hospital, but the accused doctor claims that she was sent to a different medical centre. The doctor claims that he never again ran into the complainant after that.
In the previous five days, there have been four reported rape cases in the state capital.
Behind the Ekana International Stadium on Saturday, two people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, are accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old female.
Just one day later, a 52-year-old lady said that on October 4, employees of an ashram had sexually assaulted her.

Lucknow (The Hawk): The authorities have stated that leave requests for doctors and paramedical workers employed by government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh should not be accepted due to the growing number of dengue cases in the state's various towns.
In light of the dengue outbreak and the impending holiday season, the Director General (DG) of the medical health office issued the order.
The letter from the DG to chief medical officers, assistant directors, and heads of all government hospitals stated that "keeping in mind dengue cases and impending festivals, leave to doctors and paramedical staff should not be allowed unless the conditions are unavoidable."
Health officials have been tasked with setting up special desks to deal with patients complaining of fever, according to deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the charge for health.
"Fever cases need to be handled separately. These patients shouldn't be required to wait in lengthy lines, "added said.
The minister instructed staff to make it simple for fever sufferers to register and be examined, and to give those patients seven to 15 days' worth of medication, depending on their needs.
He also emphasised that this year, fewer dengue cases are being reported by the state than there were last year.
"For dengue cases, hospitals have allocated beds. Every precaution should be made to stop the disease spread caused by mosquitoes "He instructed.
Earlier, a senior delegation from the Union Health Ministry was dispatched to Uttar Pradesh to implement dengue management strategies in the districts of Firozabad, Agra, and Etawah.

Lucknow: A 64-year-old doctor at North Eastern Railway (NER) hospital was crushed to death by a four-wheeler near 1090 crossing when he was out cycling in the morning.
According to police, Sanjay Kumar Rastogi, a resident of Gokhale Marg in Hazratganj, was a fitness enthusiast and used to go out cycling.
He left his home in the morning and was headed towards 1090 crossing when a speeding four-wheeler hit him from the rear and fled from the scene, leaving him critically injured.
Some commuters informed the UP 112 and the police rushed the doctor to Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The victim’s family has lodged an FIR under the charges of rash driving and death by negligence.
Rastogi served as chief medical officer in the hospital of Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), ministry of railways, and after retirement was serving as medical consultant at NER.

Thiruvananthapuram (The Hawk): Doctors at a private hospital on the outskirts of the capital city successfully extracted a TV battery from the stomach of a two-year-old boy and saved his life.
Endoscopy allowed gastroenterologist Jayakumar from the NIMS Hospital to remove the television battery from the boy's stomach.
"The child, Rishikesh, was brought here after his parents had initially taken him to a nearby hospital. When we learned what had occurred, we promptly notified the operating room and administered anaesthesia. Within twenty minutes, the battery was extracted from his stomach. If it had been deposited elsewhere, the situation would have gotten quite problematic.
"The child is presently in good health," declared Jayakumar.
The toddler swallowed the five-centimeter-long and 1.5-centimeter-wide battery from the TV remote control while playing with it.

Ahmedabad (The Hawk): Senior resident doctors at the B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad have been accused of ragging towards the lower resident doctors there.
The issue has been looked upon by the College's anti-ragging committee.
Dr. Meenakshi Parikh, director of postgraduate diploma programmes and research at the medical college, informed the media on Wednesday that the anti-ragging committee had received complaints sent by the head of the orthopaedic department.
At the aforementioned complaint, the junior resident doctors in the orthopaedic wing claimed that their seniors were intimidating, torturing them mentally, and physically abusing them by beating them with shoes, belts, and rubber bands, making them perform sit-ups, and even slapping them.
"Junior physicians have not specified when or where this has occurred in the complaint, but it seems it is likely to be happening in the hostel, Operation theatre, and in the Orthopedic wing over a period of time," the Director added.
According to Dr. Parikh, a meeting of the anti-ragging committee has been scheduled for the afternoon, at which time young doctors, witnesses, and senior doctors who are the targets of the complaint will be asked to give testimony. "Serious action will be taken against senior resident doctors," he stated. "If substance is found in the claims."
The director stated that "responsible doctors can have their enrollment cancelled or their suspension from the college for a period of time."
