The festival of Eid-al-Fitr will be celebrated either on May 2 or May 3 depending on the moon sighting, while Akshaya Tritiya, considered auspicious for beginning new ventures, marriages and expensive investments such as in gold, will be celebrated on May 3.After a ‘peace committee’ meeting, Khargone’s Additional Collector Sumer Singh Mujalda told reporters on Saturday night that there will be no relaxation in curfew on May 2 and May 3 in the wake of the festivals. No marriage functions will be allowed in the city on Akshaya Tritiya, he said.People can go out of station on Sunday to attend marriage functions, the official said, while urging people to celebrate the festivals at home.For students appearing in various exams, special passes will be issued, he said. (“The administration can make changes in these decisions as per the prevailing circumstances,” he added. Khargone’s in-charge Superintendent of Police Rohit Kashwani said additional forces have been called from other districts to maintain law and order situation in the city in view of the festivals. Temporary jails have been set up and those violating the curfew will not be spared, he said. The curfew in the city has been relaxed on Sunday for nine hours – from 8 am to 5 pm, he said.Curfew was clamped in the city after the violence on April 10, during which shops and houses were damaged, vehicles torched and stones hurled. Since April 14, the local administration has been relaxing the curfew for some hours.As per the district administration’s order, the curfew relaxation will not be applicable to petrol pumps and for the sale of kerosene from Public Distribution System (PDS) shops. During the curfew relaxation period, shops selling milk, vegetables, medicines, and barber’s shops among others, are allowed to remain open, but religious places have been asked to be kept shut. Mumbai: Wandering on a street late at night in a city like Mumbai when there is no night curfew is not an offence, a local court has said while acquitting a 29-year-old man booked by police for sitting on a road here under suspicious circumstances.The city police had registered the case against the man on June 13 and the Girgaon metropolitan magistrate’s court passed its order acquitting him on June 16.The magistrate said on the basis of the evidence submitted by the prosecution, it was difficult for the court to hold that the accused was trying to hide his identity to commit an offence.The police had claimed that the man, Sumit Kashyap, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, tried to cover his face with a handkerchief while he was sitting on a road in south Mumbai. They had registered the case against him under Section 122 (b) of the Maharashtra Police Act.The section has provisions for booking a person found between sunrise and sunset for “having his face covered or otherwise disguised with intent to commit an offence”.Magistrate Nadeem Patel said, “The accused was arrested in Mumbai at around 1.30 am. In a city like Mumbai, 1.30 am is not too late. Anyone can stand on the road and therefore, it cannot be termed as hiding the identity with intent to commit an offence.” “Even if it is assumed that 1.30 am is too late, then also, wandering on the street is not an offence when there is no night curfew. Admittedly, there is no night curfew in Mumbai, therefore if the accused was standing on the road, it is not an offence,” the court added.The court refused to accept the police’s case that the man was trying to hide his identity by covering his face with a handkerchief.“It is the COVID-19 period and people are used to wearing mask for safety purposes. Though a mask is not compulsory, but there is an advisory to wear the mask. If anyone is not having a mask, then they use handkerchief as a mask, and if the accused is using the handkerchief as a mask to cover his mouth, it does not mean that he is hiding his identity,” the court said.The court, while acquitting Kashyap, said the prosecution had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the guilt of the accused.—PTI

Jaipur: Curfew was clamped and internet services were suspended in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh after the villagers, who were demanding action against suspected cow-slaughterers, clashed with police, official sources said on Thursday.As per the sources, alleging that a cow was slaughtered on Eid, the villagers had staged a sit-in since July 21 demanding action against the accused. The situation turned sensitive after the agitators were driven out of the protest site on Tuesday.There was stone pelting and lathicharge in which cops and agitators were injured. Over 40 people were detained by police.Police officials said that the villagers took out a rally on Wednesday afternoon. As section 144 was imposed in the village, police had to resort to lathi-charge for violation of Section-144.Also, tear gas shells were lobbed to control the situation. Later, curfew was imposed in two villages — Gandhibari and Chidiyagandhi — of the district. Internet services were also suspended here.During the lathi-charge and stone pelting between police and the agitators, Bhirani SHO Omprakash Suthar was hit on head, while another villager was also injured. Pauri: In view of the tiger terror, the Pauri Garhwal district administration has imposed curfew in dozens of villages of Rikhanikhal and Dhumakot tehsils. The prohibitory orders will remain in force from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Apart from this, schools and Anganwadi centres of both these tehsils will remain closed on April 17 and 18. The orders were issued after a man was killed by a tiger in Dalla village of Rikhanikhal. Two days ago, the forest department installed a cage in the village to catch the tiger. On Sunday, a drone was flown in the surrounding area, in which the movement of a tiger has also been seen in Padiyar Pani village. Earlier, a tiger had also attacked Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Lansdowne, Dalip Rawat. Khushendra Singh, head of Gram Panchayat Meldhar, said that after the death of an old man in a tiger attack, there is panic in the surrounding villages. He said that 10 streetlights have been given by the district administration to make arrangements for lighting on the roads of the affected villages. The district administration has imposed an 11-hour night curfew in Rikhanikhal, Dhumakot tehsil area of Lansdowne assembly constituency till further orders. District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan has issued advisory for 28 villages of Rikhanikhal, Dhumakot tehsil. Along with this, curfew will also be imposed in Panu Patti Char. Tigers have been seen roaming in the villages adjacent to the Corbett National Park in Rikhanikhal. Nuh/New Delhi: Amid high security in five different districts -- Gurugram, Nuh, Rewali, Palwal, and Faridabad -- the members of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) accompanied by Mahamandleshwar Swami Dharamdev reached Haryana's Nuh district to conduct Jalabhishek during the 'Brajmandal Shobha Yatra' on Monday.  Locals of the Nuh district had gathered at the Nalhar temple after the VHP's call and started Hawan-Poojan inside of the temple from 9 a.m.  "Heavy police deployment has been made in every district which is close to Nuh with central paramilitary forces deployment is also there. No one will be allowed to breach law and order conditions," Superintendent of Police (SP) Nuh, Narendra Bijarnia told IANS.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dhirendra Khadgata said, "The district is peaceful and no tension has been reported from any part of Nuh."  A senior police official said, "Boundaries of Nuh are completely sealed and the police forces are monitoring every single vehicle reaching Nuh near Sohna Chowk, Ghamroj Toll Plaza, Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP expressway), Ferozepur Jhirka, Delhi-Mumbai expressway, Tauru and several places. Internal securities of Nuh district along with different intelligence agencies are also keeping a strict vigil since the last two weeks. No one will be allowed to breach law and order conditions."  Nuh on Monday wore a complete deserted look with almost all the markets closed. Mediapersons were stopped near Edward Chowk (locally referred as Nuh Chowk).  The Haryana Police have made stringent security arrangements to avoid any untoward situation during the religious procession despite the denial of permission by the authorities. 
Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata said they have made all necessary arrangements and adequate police force has been deployed to maintain law and order situation. As a preventive measure, Internet services have been suspended in Nuh from August 26 to August 29, the DC had said.  "We have continuously appealed to the Nuh residents to offer prayers at their village temples instead of converging at the Nalhar temple," the DC had said.  The Nalhar temple, where hundreds of devotees took refuge during the July 31 clashes, has now been turned into a fortress with paramilitary forces keeping a strict vigil and guarding it.  According to a top Haryana Police official, the permission for the yatra was denied due to the meeting of the G20 Sherpa Group which was scheduled to be held in Nuh during September 3-7, and to maintain law and order in the aftermath of the July 31 violence.  On July 31 a massive clash broke out between two communities after members of one of the communities had pelted stones during a Shobha Yatra and burnt several vehicles forcing police to take action. Six people lost their lives during the clash, including two policemen of Kherki Daula police station in Gurugram. The administration imposed curfew in the district.

Imphal: Around 50 people, including women, were injured in different clashes and firing incidents at Pallel in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on Friday, officials said.
Several media reports said that two people were killed in these clashes and firing incidents. However, the police are yet to confirm the casualties.
According to the police, 11 civilians sustained bullet wounds in the clashes between rival armed groups and the security forces.
As the news of firing spread on social media, hundreds of men and women from Thoubal and Kakching districts rushed to Pallel, but they were stopped by Assam Rifles personnel leading to stone pelting by the agitating people.
Over 30 people, mostly women, were injured after Assam Rifles lobbed teargas shells to disperse the mob.
An Assam Rifles jawan also sustained minor injury.
A large contingent of Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel tried to move to Pallel from Imphal to control the mob, but the protesters blocked the roads at Thoubal leading to confrontations.
More than 10 people including women were injured in the clashes with the RAF personnel.
Though the firing has reportedly stopped in Tengnoupal district and other places just before the evening, the situation is still tense.
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an apex body of the Meitei community, and leading tribal organisation Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) gave accused each other for the attacks.
Friday’s incidents took place two days after thousands of protesters had gathered at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district to break through army barricades in a bid to return to their houses in Torbung, which they had vacated and took shelter in the relief camps after violence broke out in Manipur on May 3.
In view of the incidents on Friday, curfew relaxation periods have been shortened till 12 noon in different districts.
Manipur police said on X (formerly Twitter): “There are posts on social media regarding exchange of fire between Kuki militants and Meitei village volunteers, which are not correct. It is clarified that the incident was related to firing between security forces and armed miscreants at Pallel.”
Meanwhile, a women’s organisation has called statewide ‘Public Curfew’ on Saturday and Sunday demanding restoration of peace in Manipur and replacement of Assam Rifles by any other Central para military force.
Manipur Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi in an appeal requested the people and all organisations to maintain peace and normalcy and help the law enforcing agencies and the administration to keep the situation normal and prevent all kinds of troubles.&nbsp;

Imphal: In a tense encounter, security forces engaged in a fierce gun battle with suspected Kuki militants in the border town of Moreh, located in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, on Wednesday morning, according to police sources.  Reports suggest that the militants targeted a security forces post near SBI Moreh, employing explosive devices and firearms. Swiftly responding to the attack, security forces retaliated, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.  While unconfirmed details indicate that one security personnel sustained minor injuries during the confrontation, the situation remains fluid.  This incident occurred just 48 hours after state forces apprehended two suspects linked to the killing of a police officer in the same border town.  Anticipating potential unrest, the Manipur government had earlier imposed a total curfew effective from 12 am on January 16, citing concerns about the breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquility, and grave danger to human lives and property within Tengnoupal's jurisdiction. The curfew exempts government agencies involved in law enforcement and essential services.  Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Tuesday night, village volunteers reportedly engaged in a prolonged exchange of gunfire with suspected Kuki militants in Koutruk village, Imphal West district. Central security forces intervened, prompting the attackers to cease fire.  In a related development, police successfully arrested Phillip Khongsai and Hemokholal Mate, the primary suspects in the killing of SDPO Ch Anand in October the previous year. The two suspects had allegedly opened fire on security personnel vehicles, leading to a chase and their subsequent apprehension.  Produced before the Judicial Magistrate Moreh, Khongsai and Mate have been remanded to nine days of police custody. Seized from their possession were one pistol with two live rounds, one Chinese hand grenade, ten live rounds of AK ammunition, and ten detonators.  The arrests sparked protests by a significant number of women in front of the Moreh police station, demanding the unconditional release of the two detainees.  In response to the arrests, Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT), Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) based in Churachandpur district, and the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) based in Kangpokpi district jointly condemned the apprehension of Khongsai and Mate. They vehemently refuted any alleged connection between the suspects and the killing of the police officer.

The madrasa demolition took place after a prior notice to the residents, according to SSP Prahlad Meena.  People living around the madrasa hurled stones at the police personnel and journalists, leaving some injured, Meena said.  The protestors also set vehicles on fire, he added.  The SSP said the madrasa stood on an "illegally encroached government land".  The demolition was carried out in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Upadhyay, City Magistrate Richa Singh, SDM Paritosh Verma, he added.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar on Friday said action under the stringent National Security Act will be taken against those who attacked police personnel and indulged in arson and vandalism in Haldwani.
The DGP along with ADG (law and order) AP Anshuman visited the violence-hit town in Nainital district to assess the situation in consultation with senior officials.  "Action under the NSA will be taken against unruly elements who attacked police personnel, and indulged in arson and vandalism at the police station in Banbhoolpura," he said.
The situation has been brought under control to a large extent with the imposition of curfew but the efforts at the moment are focused on bringing back normalcy in the town within the next 24 hours, DGP Kumar said.  Kumar held a meeting with district officials in Haldwani to get their feedback on the situation and visited the hospitals where the injured were admitted and the police station which was torched and vandalised by miscreants.  A high alert has been sounded across the state following violence in Haldwani that broke out after the demolition of an illegally-built madrasa and a place for offering namaz inside its premises in Malik ka Bageecha area in the Muslim-dominated Banbhoolpura locality.  Two people were killed and three critically injured in the Thursday violence.

Haldwani: Authorities have arrested five people and named 19 people in three FIRs registered against 19 named persons and a total of 5,000 unidentified people, in the February 8 violence that broke out after an anti-encroachment drive in Haldwani's Banbhoolpura area. Five people died in the violence that erupted after the anti-encroachment drive on Thursday, following which a curfew was imposed in the area.The three FIRs were registered on Friday, and police stressed that there was no fresh violence and that the situation was under control. State Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Law &amp; Order AP Anshuman said,: "The situation in Haldwani is normal, curfew has been lifted. Curfew continues in Banbhoolpura. Three FIRs have been registered and five people have been arrested...CCTV footage is being checked...Five people died and three people are seriously injured. Several police officials are injured..." Police said they have taken many people into custody and searches have begun and miscreants are being identified. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nainital PN Meena also said that three cases were registered in which 19 people have been named and 5,000 unknown people have also been included in the cases. Security personnel have been deployed in parts of the violence-hit area after clashes erupted on Thursday night following the anti-encroachment drive. Yesterday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Haldwani and said the attack on police personnel, including women officers, was highly condemnable. The Chief Minister also inquired about the condition of the women police team and other policemen, administration, municipal corporation personnel, and journalists who were injured in the violence. Dhami said that all the video footage and footprints of those who have broken the law and damaged government property are available. The process of identifying all the miscreants involved in this incident and taking legal action against them is underway. To ensure peace and law and order in Banbhoolpura, the Chief Minister has instructed ADG Law and Order AP Anshuman to camp in the affected area. The CM has also given instructions to take strict action against the unruly elements, taking a strict view of the incidents of attacks on police and administration officials and personnel during the removal of illegal construction and spreading unrest in the area. The Chief Minister has appealed to the local people to maintain peace and has given instructions to take strict action against the unruly elements. He gave clear instructions that no one would be allowed to play with law and order in the state. Administrative officers should be constantly alert at all times to maintain law and order in the area and should strive to maintain peace and law and order in every situation. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi also reached the violence-affected areas on Friday to take stock of the situation. The Chief Secretary has instructed the District Magistrate of Nainital and the Senior Superintendent of Police to maintain constant vigil on the situation. Raturi inspected Banbhoolpura police station and gave strict instructions to the district administration and police officers to maintain law and order by taking the safety and peace of the general public as the top priority. The state government issued a high alert across the state on Friday. Meanwhile, the district administration has ordered the suspension of internet services and the closure of all schools and colleges. Shops on the outskirts of the town opened on Saturday but schools remain closed.
 "Patrolling is continuously being done in the affected area and the situation is under control," Additional Director General (ADG) of Police, Law and Order, A P Anshuman, who is camping in Haldwani, told PTI Videos.
 Five people involved in Thursday's violence have so far been arrested and three FIRs registered, the officer said. Internet services continue to be suspended to prevent rumours from spreading through social media platforms.
 However, the residents of the Banbhoolpura area, where the curfew is still in force, are being allowed to buy essentials from time to time, the ADG said. The movement of trains up to Kathgodam has also been resumed, he added.

 More than 60 people were hurt on Thursday as locals hurled stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police, forcing many police personnel to seek refuge in a police station, which the mob then set on fire.
 Seven people, including a journalist, were under treatment on Friday at three different hospitals. Three of them were said to be in a serious condition.

Haldwani: The Uttarakhand government has sought more central forces for deployment in Haldwani where violence erupted on February 8 after the demolition of allegedly 'illegal' madrassa and mosque, officials said.
They said four companies -- containing about 100 personnel each -- of the Central Paramilitary Forces have been sought from the Home Ministry to maintain law and order in Banbhoolpura area, the epicentre of the mob violence.  The requisition was sent to the Centre by Chief Secretary Radha Raturi.

 Curfew remains in force in Banbhoopura area but has been lifted from the outer areas of the town. Nearly 1,100 security personnel are already deployed in the town.
Shops are still shut in Banbhoolpura and the roads deserted.  Internet services also continue to be suspended in the area to prevent rumour-mongering through social media platforms.  Six rioters were killed while 60 people were injured in Thursday's violence, officials said.

Nanital: Coming out in opposition against the violence in Haldwani during a demolition drive in Haldwani on February 8, Union Minister of State for Defence, Ajay Bhatt, on Sunday said strict action will be taken against those found guilty. Speaking to ANI on Sunday, the minister, however, cautioned against politicisation of the issue. "A criminal is a criminal and has no religion. What happened was wrong. The guilty will not be spared and will receive exemplary punishment. We must ensure that such incidents don't happen again," he said. As many as 30 people have been arrested, including 25 in the last 24 hours, in connection with Thursday's violence in the Haldwani city of Nainital. The clashes and violence left five people dead and dozens injured, the police said on Sunday. Several countrymade weapons and live rounds were recovered from those arrested, police said. The state government has asked the Centre for four additional companies of paramilitary forces to be deployed in the district. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police, Prahlad Narayan Meena, said, "In connection with the three FIRs registered, we have arrested 25 people in the last 24 hours. They include 12 people for the attack on the police station, six for setting vehicles ablaze outside the police station, and seven in connection to the FIR registered on the complaint of Nagar Nigam for violence during the anti-encroachment drive." He said all the arrests in connection with the Haldwani violence were made within the borders of Nainital district. Meanwhile, curfew remained in place in the Banbhoolpura area, where the incident took place, and several locals were seen packing up and leaving. Violence erupted on Thursday after the administration conducted an anti-encroachment drive in Banbhoolpura. After stone-pelting incidents, torching of vehicles and a mob surrounding the local police station, the administration issued a shoot-at-sight order. Earlier, on Sunday, DGP Uttarakhand Abhinav Kumar claimed that the police personnel, who had gone to Banbhoolpura to assist an ongoing, legally sanctioned anti-encroachment drive were attacked by a mob. "The police acted in the lawful exercise of their right to self-defence in discharging their official duties. We have sufficient audio-visual evidence to this effect. The night curfew will continue in the rest of the areas under Banbhoolpura police station from 5pm to 6am," Nanital Police posted on X. The curfew was imposed and the administration issued shoot-at-sight orders after stone-pelting incidents, torching of vehicles and a mob surrounded the local police station following the anti-encroachment drive. Meanwhile, yesterday, Additional Director General (ADG), Administration, Amit Sinha, reached the site of the violence in Banbhoolpura and took stock of the newly established police post. During his visit, the ADG reviewed security arrangements in the area. Uttarakhand: Curfew In Haldwani Relaxed Temporarily

Dehradun: Curfew was lifted entirely from the riot-hit Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani Tuesday morning, 12 days after the restrictions were first clamped following violence over the demolition of an 'illegal' madrasa.
Curfew was lifted with effect from 5 am, according to an official order.  During the days the curfew remained in force, the administration gave relaxation for varying durations.  The administration had ben giving relaxation in curfew for vaying. The violence broke out on February 8 after the demolition of the madrasa in Banbhoolpura. Locals hurled stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police on the day, forcing many personnel to seek refuge at a police station, which the mob then set on fire.
In the violence, six rioters were killed and more than 100 people, including police personnel and mediapersons, were injured, according to the police.  Sixty-eight people have so far been arrested in connection with the violence. Their properties have also been attached.

Nainital District Magistrate Issues Order To Abolish Curfew In Banbhoolpura Area

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A curfew has been imposed in Ambad taluka of Maharashtra's Jalna district considering the law and order situation in view of the ongoing agitation for Maratha reservation by activist Manoj Jarange, as per an order issued by the district administration.
Jalna collector Srikrushna Panchal in the order said Jarange announced on Sunday that he will go to Mumbai and agitate over his demand of reservation for the Maratha community.  There is a possibility that people may come to Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna, where the activist has been staging a hunger strike, to stop him (from going to Mumbai).  Due to the huge crowd, there is a possibility that traffic on Dhule-Mumbai highway and other nearby areas may be affected, the order mentioned.  Considering the law and order situation, curfew has been imposed in Ambad taluka from Monday midnight till further orders, the order said.  Government offices, schools, movement on national highways, milk distribution, media and hospitals are exempted from this order, the collector said.  Jarange on Sunday night left from Antarwali Sarati and reached nearby Bhamberi village.  However, on Monday morning, the protesting activist returned to Antarwali Sarati and started taking medical treatment.
