During your Ph.D. in India, if you qualify in the UGC NET examination, you will get a stipend of Rs. 35,000 per month in the first 2 years and then Rs. 38,000 per month for the remaining years.

New Delhi: The AAP government has hit out at Lieutenant Governor (L-G) office over latter's claim that "indifferent and inhuman attitude" of the Delhi Education Department was holding back the benefits of the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) scheme for retired officials of the department.
The Delhi government said that the L-G office was controlling everything and they were responsible for the delay of eight years.
Delhi L-G V.K. Saxena on Wednesday ordered that the benefits of the MACP scheme must be given to retired Principals, EOs, DEOs, DDEs of the Education Department.
"Despite these retired officers being eligible for financial upgradation from year 2008 and their eligibility upheld by various Courts and even by Supreme Court, these officers had to go through trauma and harassment all these years for no fault of theirs due to indifferent and inhuman attitude of the Education Department. With the decision of LG, they would be getting their due benefits pending for 15 years," the L-G office said.

Mumbai: Singer Asha Bhosle, who carved out her own independent niche and ruled the roost over the world of music, turns a ripe old 90 on Friday, and notwithstanding a long and eventful musical journey of eight decades, neither her vocal cords are tired nor has she retired…
It was back way, some 80 years ago, when a petite 10-year-old girl Asha Mangeshkar earnestly stood before a studio microphone and recorded her first playback song for composer Datta S. Davjekar, ‘Chala Chala Nav Bal…’ for a Marathi film ('Majha Bal' – 1943).
Though it came just a year after her father Pt. Deenanath Mangeshkar’s passing (1942), Asha’s maiden number did not exactly set the film industry on fire but she continued to get humdrum singing assignments, and like her older sibling Lata Mangeshkar, continued the uphill musical sojourn.
After many Marathi songs, she finally landed a Hind film song assignment for 'Chunariya' (1948), and then a solo in Hindi for 'Raat Ki Rani' (1949), but the struggles were yet to end.
She continued to render side-y type of songs for junior artistes or dancers, and mostly for tier-II films or composers, many frowning at her voice which would not jell with most heroines of the day, or getting overshadowed by other popular voices in those times.
The big moment, and number, came with an established male singer Mohammed Rafi for 'Boot Polish' (1954), when they crooned the evergreen number, ‘Nanhe Munne Bachche Teri Mutthi Me Kya Hai’, which caught and turned the nation’s ears to Asha’s voice.
That was an era dominated by female stalwarts like Noorjehan (who later moved to Pakistan), Suraiya, Geeta Roy-Dutt, Shamshad Begum, Zohrabai Ambalewali, Mubarak Begum and more, and even Lata had to jostle through the crowd to make her voice heard.
Perhaps, it was the legendary Omkar Prasad Nayyar who proved to be the turning point for Asha when he made her sing 'Leke Pehla Pehla Pyaar' (‘CID’, 1956) with Rafi and it was a runaway hit, along with other songs by Shamshad Begum and Geeta Dutt.
Presumably patting himself for his choice, Nayyar deployed Asha’s voice in all the female lead numbers for 'Naya Daur' (1957) which bagged him his first Filmfare Award (1958).
“Then I worked extensively with Asha… People ask me why I never signed Lata to sing… I found Lata’s voice ‘too thin’ and unsuited for my style of music, unlike the other female singers of that era,” chuckled Nayyar in a 1997 interview with this correspondent.
He spoke with pride, how he was “the only” music director to achieve heights of success without ever using Lata Mangeshkar, but exploited the silvery rich voices of others like Asha Bhosle, Geeta Dutta, Shamshad Begum, etc.
Khayyam once narrated to this correspondent how composing for 'Umrao Jaan' (1981) was a big challenge for him, coming barely 9 years after the mega-hit musical 'Pakeezah' (1972), both centering around the shunned theme of ‘tawaifs’.
“The filmmakers and I decided that not only would ‘Umrao Jaan’ look different but also sound different… So I made Asha sing all the songs, with certain changes in her singing style. Fortunately, it was received very well,” Khayyam said modestly, the occasion was when Asha was named for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2000).
However, compared with 'Pakeezah', not only did 'Umrao Jaan' stand on a different pedestal in public minds, but also won four National Awards (1982) including for Khayyam as Best Music Director and Asha ('Dil Cheez Kya Hai').
Over the decades, Asha soared the musical skies with strength with her unique singing gait, flitting from notes to melodies to symphonies to fusion, winning hearts and minds, and edged firmly into the formidable ‘G5 of Music’ - Rafi-Kishore-Mukesh, Lata-Asha.
Unshackling her voice from traditions, Asha reached heights of popularity, effortlessly singing in different genres ranging from regular songs, ghazals, bhajans, qawwalis, pacey-husky-sexy numbers, cabarets, pop, fusion, et al.
In fact, one of her qawwalis composed by Roshan - 'Nigaahen Milane Ko Jee Chahta Hai' ('Dil Hi To Hai' - 1963), remains among among the Top 5 in the genre since.
So much so that other ‘conservative’ composers like Naushad Ali, Madan Mohan, Jaidev, Roshan, composed songs specially for her or took her voice for certain difficult ones, besides of course, Nayyar, Mohammed Zahur Hashmi ‘Khayyam’, ‘Ravi’ Shankar Sharma, S. D. Burman, Shankar-Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji, Sonik-Omi, Rakesh Roshan, R. D. Burman and Ravindra Jain.
Then came the era of the modern brigade of Bhappi Lahiri, Ilaiyaraja, A. R. Rahman, Anu Malik, Jatin-Lalit, and many others… even as music tastes shifted from the soothing melody to sheer cacophony…
Simultaneously, her sister Lata also became a trail-blazer, as the senior singers faded away and she competed with the younger era of women crooners.
Asha made international waves, too, becoming the first Indian Grammy nominee (2006), collaborating with albums with global artistes and cricketer Brett Lee (‘You’re the One for Me’ – 2006), belting songs in nearly two dozen Indian and foreign languages, bagging the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan among many other awards and honours, et al.
Besides the recording studios, she is ranked a MasterChef par excellence, dishing out yummy gourmet cuisine for celebs and runs a global chain of restaurants, Asha’s for over a decade.
On the occasion of awarding the ‘Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2022, Asha apparently gathered courage to open up her heart before the audience, and regaled them, oft tongue-in-cheek with many little known or unknown facets of her Bharat Ratna Didi’s life and times.&nbsp;

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday gave a clear hint about some prominent leaders of the BJP and JD(S) joining Congress, and said that he was “looking for an auspicious time to facilitate their joining his party”.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Bengaluru, Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress chief, welcomed the announcement made by the former BJP MLA from Byndoor seat in Dakshina Kannada, Sukumar Shetty to join Congress.
Sukumar Shetty held a meeting with Shivakumar on Thursday. Shetty was denied ticket to contest in 2023 Assembly elections from BJP.
Shetty had said that the BJP “will not allow leaders to grow and there is a trend of pulling the legs in the party. There is no future for the BJP and so have decided to join Congress.”
Shivakumar while welcoming him to the party,stated, “I will not carry out ‘Operation Hast’. I am opposed to ‘Operation Hast’ as well as ‘Operation Lotus’. I am only here for co-operation. I am extending a hand of friendship. Whoever trusts the Congress party and its leadership, its ideology and programmes such as the Bharat Jodo Yatra, will be welcomed.”
When asked how many leaders are ready, Shivakumar maintained that he can’t provide figures but he said that opposition leaders themselves are coming out in the open. Answering a question on when they will join Congress, Shivakumar stated, “we need a good auspicious time so that it brings good to us”.
“We want good things to happen. In politics, you see no one is permanent. No permanent friends, no permanent enemies. It is said that politics is an art of possibility. You are seeing what is happening in our district? (Referring to development of sworn enemies BJP former minister C.P. Yogeshwar and former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy coming closer),” Shivakumar said.
When asked about Shivakumar personally inviting the leaders from the opposition parties, he said that he will not invite anyone. “They will also see their future in politics. No one is a fool. They will also have to look after their careers and life. Why people from surrounding regions of Bengaluru come and settle here, is for their career, education and future. No one is willing to move out of Bengaluru. In politics also similarly, they are thinking about their future,” he maintained.
“I could tolerate hardship and firmly stood with the party. No other person will face such consequences. What happened in Maharashtra? CM Eknath Shinde and NCP leaders got washed away in the washing machine,” he said ironically.
When questioned by the BJP talking about the possibility of Karnataka’s Ajit Pawar, Shivakumar maintained that he will talk about it later. Sources claimed that BJP was referring to Shivakumar as Karnataka’s Ajit Pawar.&nbsp;

Mumbai: Actress Nehha Pendse, who is known for her versatile performances in both television and film, recalled her journey as a child artiste, and expressed her admiration for actor Sunny Deol.
Nehha is set to make her return in the new episodes of ‘May I Come in Madam’, as Madam Sanjana. She shared insights into her remarkable journey as a child artiste, and the changing landscape for young talent in the entertainment industry.
Reminiscing about her early days in the entertainment world, the actress said: “I began my acting career as a child artiste with a television serial on DD channel, and made my big-screen debut alongside the legendary Sunny Deol in ‘Pyaar Koi Khel Nahi’.”
“My parents had always held a deep appreciation for art and entertainment, and that’s where it all began. During that era, child artistes were relatively limited, as many perceived it as taboo to involve children in the entertainment industry,” said Nehha.
She said: “However, I believe destiny had its role to play, and everything fell into place, allowing me to be part of numerous wonderful projects as a child artiste.”
Speaking further, Nehha expressed gratitude for the enriching experiences she had while working with various artistes.

The story of the show amusingly follows a man (Sajan) played by Sandeep Anand caught between his suspicious wife Kashmira played by Sapna Sikarwar and attractive boss Sanjana played by Nehha highlighting Sajan’s humorous dilemma as he manages his feelings for his Boss and his Wife.

Los Angeles: Popstar-actress Selena Gomez has said that she will never revisit her mental health documentary ‘My Mind and Me’ because it’s ‘so hard’ to watch.
The 31-year-old laid bare her personal and professional struggles in the candid film for Apple TV Plus which touched on her 2016 breakdown and stint in a treatment centre as well as her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and later battles with mental health issues – and she has now revealed she was reluctant to make the film over fears it would jeopardise her career, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
Speaking during an appearance at Thrive Global’s Music and Health Conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday, she explained: “I was very against it. There was a very long period of time where I just didn’t know if it was a good idea. I knew, eventually, one day I wanted to maybe just be an actress for a while, and I didn’t know if it would jeopardise things in my life.
“I don’t know what I’m doing, letting people into my life. And then the moment it was released … I had no choice at that point. And I was relieved. I felt like a huge weight was lifted.”
However, she admitted she can’t bring herself to watch it again.
Gomez added: “I felt like I got to say things that I’ve been keeping in for years. It’s very hard for me to watch. I will never watch it again, but I’m very proud of it. I couldn’t have been luckier to have the people that worked on it with me.”
During the appearance, she also spoke about her relationship with social media – insisting she’s not bothered about numbers of followers but feels the “heavy” responsibility of interacting with fans who are going through tough times.
She said: “I’ve never really cared about that stuff [social media]. I suppose I’m grateful for the platform, and I would love to continue to use it for what I’m able to do, but numbers are just numbers.”
Gomez added: “It can be a little heavy. I feel for people, and I think that’s what kind of keeps me in check, to be honest. I think I can be a little reckless with my emotions and having conversations with young people, women who are going through divorces or going through chemo – it’s not just about me, and I’m fully aware of that. I will just always cherish it. It’s a big responsibility, though. It’s a little scary.”

Mumbai: Actor Akhil Mishra, who has worked in films such as the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain’ passed away after an accident in the kitchen. He was 57.
A source close to IANS said: “It was an accident. He was found injured on the floor in the kitchen and died in the hospital. And now the body has been taken for autopsy. We are waiting for the reports.”
The source said that his wife, Suzanne was shooting in Hyderabad when the incident happened.
Akhil Mishra, was born 1965. He has worked in films such as ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, ‘Gandhi, My Father’ and television serials such as ‘Pradhanmantri’.
He gained popularity by doing the cameo role of Librarian Dubey in ‘3 Idiots’ and playing the role of Umed Singh Bundela in Uttaran starring Tina Datta and Rashami Desai.
Akhil was first married to Manju Mishra in 1983 who had acted with him in his first feature film ‘Dhat Tere…Ki’ in 1983 and a serial ‘Grihalakshmi Ka Jinn’. After Manju’s death in 1997, he got married to German actress Suzanne Bernert in February 2009.
Suzanne is known for working in ‘Ramdhanu – The Rainbow’, ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd’.
She has also worked in TV show ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’. She portrayed Sonia Gandhi on the television series 7 RCR, and in the Hindi film The Accidental Prime Minister.

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Ahead of Muttiah Muralitharan's upcoming biopic '800', the legendary Sri Lankan spinner said that his biopic will get a good response in the northern cities of India since he has more fans there.  Muralitharan is confident that the biopic will attract more audiences in India since his ancestors are from here and even his wife is Indian.&nbsp;
The former Sri Lankan spinner said that many people are looking forward to the film and the player himself believes that the biopic is good.  "In northern cities, it will get a very good response because I have a lot of fans, I played for a different country, but my ancestors are from here. And my wife is from India. So a lot of people are looking forward to this. And, also, I think, it's a good film," Muralitharan told ANI.
Muralitharan’s upcoming biopic will hit the screens in India on October 6. The film is based on the Sri Lankan’s life and career. It is directed by M. S. Sripathy. It starred Madhur Mittal and Mahima Nambiar in the lead roles. The biopic showed how Muralitharan found solace in cricket and stood up to bullies, and transformed himself from a pace bowler into a spinner. '800' also gave an insight into a difficult time in his cricket career at a time when he was questioned for his bowling action.  Muralitharan set the record for taking 800 wickets in Test Cricket after taking part in 133 long-format games. The legendary spinner played his last international match in 2011 against India. Muralitharan has a strong fan base in India, the 51-year-old also took part in the Indian Premier League and picked 63 wickets in the T20 tournament. The 51-year-old was a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad when he won the tournament for the first time.

The training programme was included a field trip to Gurukul Narson near Roorkee where the participants interacted with progressive farmers and came to know about Poplar based agroforestry and other agroforestry models along with their financial value. The training had 12 sessions on different aspects of agroforestry like agroforestry policy, its implementation issues, role of agroforestry in meeting national and international commitments, bio-engineering measure through agroforestry, potential of medicinal plants under agroforestry, bamboo based agroforestry, climate changeresilience through forest and tree plantaion, challenges in agroforestry implementation, developing domestic carbon market, rehabilitation of degraded land, raw material augmentation, etc.  The valedictory session of the training programme was held today.
