Lucknow / New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 296-km-long Bundelkhand expressway in Uttar Pradesh on July 16.The expressway, which stretches between Chitrakoot and Etawah, has been completed eight months ahead of schedule. While laying the foundation stone in February 2020, Prime Minister Modi had said that the project "will create thousands of jobs and connect the common people with facilities available in bigger cities".According to the government spokesman, the expressway starts near Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district and merges with the Agra-Lucknow expressway near Kudrail village in Etawah district.It covers the seven districts of Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Aurraiya and Etawah.The road length has crossings over several rivers: Bagen, Ken, Shyama, Chandawal, Birma, Yamuna, Betwa and Sengar.The four-lane expressway, developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), has scope for expansion to six lanes in the future. It has 13 interchange points.According to officials, the total cost of the project is pegged at about Rs 15,000 crore. However, the Yogi Adityanath government has saved about Rs 1,132 crore by opting for e-tendering.The project is expected to give a fillip to connectivity in the state and boost economic activity. "Bundelkhand, which is considered to be one of the most backward areas of the country, is set to be directly connected to the national capital through the Agra-Lucknow expressway and Yamuna expressway," said a senior official.The Bundelkhand expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Chitrakoot to just six hours from the earlier 9-10 hours.The Bundelkhand expressway is also crucial to the success of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh defence corridor project.Work on an industrial corridor has also begun in the districts of Banda and Jalaun. The defence corridor project, worth Rs 20,000 crore, has been planned over 5,071 hectares across the state's western, central and Bundelkhand regions.Of the 13 expressways spanning 3,200 km in the state , six are operational while work is on in seven.Industrial corridors are being built along highways and expressways. Airstrips are coming up for emergency use by the air force."Not even two expressways had been completed in Uttar Pradesh in the first 70 years since Independence. He said that connectivity projects in Uttar Pradesh are connecting many areas which have been ignored in the past. For example, Bundelkhand Expressway passes through seven districts, viz. Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya and Etawah. Similarly, other Expressways are connecting every nook and corner of the state, leading to a situation where, “every corner of Uttar Pradesh is ready to move forward with new dreams and new resolutions”. The Double-Engine Government is working in that direction with renewed viogour, he said.Regarding improving air connectivity in the state, the Prime Minister said that new airports terminals came up in Prayagraj. Kushinagar got new airport and work is going on in Jewar, NOIDA for a new airport and many more cities are being connected with air travel facilities. This will give a push to tourism and other development opportunities, he said.&nbsp;The Prime Minister asked the Chief Minister to develop a tourism circuit around the many forts in the region. Similarly number of Common Service Centers in Uttar Pradesh increased from 11,000 in 2014 to 1 lakh 30 thousand Common Service Centers, today. A significant endeavour towards this was the laying of foundation stone for the construction of Bundelkhand Expressway by the Prime Minister on 29 February, 2020. The work on the Expressway has been completed within 28 months, an indication of the work culture of New India where projects are delivered on time.The 296 Km, four-lane expressway has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 14,850 crores, under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), and can later be expanded up to six lanes as well. It extends from NH-35 at Gonda village near Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district to near Kudrail village in Etawah district, where it merges with the Agra-Lucknow expressway. It passes through seven districts, viz. Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya and Etawah.Along with improving connectivity in the region, the Bundelkhand Expressway will also give a major boost to economic development, resulting in the creation of thousands of jobs for the local people. Work on the creation of industrial corridor in Banda and Jalaun districts, next to the Expressway, has already been started.

Jalaun: The potholes were repaired instantly and the road opened to traffic, a spokesperson said A portion of the Bundelkhand expressway developed deep potholes due to heavy rains here, within a week of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the 296 km-long road.The portion of the road developed 1.5-foot-deep potholes due to rains at Chiriya Salempur in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district on Wednesday night, said U.P. Expressway Industrial Authority spokesperson Durgesh Upadhyay. The potholes were repaired instantly and the road opened to traffic, he added.The authority deployed a team with bulldozers and necessary equipment to repair the stretch.When contacted by PTI, District Magistrate Chandani Singh did not respond to calls.The incident drew criticism, with BJP MP Varun Gandhi questioning the quality of the construction work and seeking action against officials and the companies concerned.The incident also gave ammunition to the opposition Samajwadi Party and the Congress to attack the government.Varun Gandhi in a Hindi tweet said, "If the expressway built at a cost of ?15,000 crore cannot withstand even five days of rain, then serious questions rise on its quality. The head of the project, the engineer concerned and responsible companies should be summoned and action be taken against them," he added.Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in a Hindi tweet said, "This is a sample of the quality of the BJP's half-finished development. The Bundelkhand expressway was inaugurated by big people and within a week huge pits of corruption came out.""The caving-in of the Bundelkhand expressway just days after its inauguration proves corruption of the double engine BJP government in the construction of the road. Potholes On UP Expressway Week After Opening By PM

Lucknow (The Hawk): Till late on Sunday night, at least 25 people had perished in various rain-related incidents throughout Uttar Pradesh.
Most fatalities have been linked to house collapses, according to reports.
Following 48 hours of nonstop rain, water levels are rising in all of the state's major rivers.
The state's meteorological department has issued a warning for moderate to heavy rain on Monday in the Terai Belt, Bundelkhand, and Rohilkhand regions, as well as the state's eastern and central regions.
The administrations of Agra and Aligarh have declared Monday and Tuesday to be school holidays, while district magistrates in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Rampur, and Meerut have decided to close all schools up to class 12 on Monday.
A boat capsized in Barhalganj in Gorakhpur, flooding nearly 400 villages, and two people were carried away by the floodwaters.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has warned people to be cautious and asked them to stay away from crowded areas and crumbling structures.
Helplines have been established in several districts for those who are experiencing issues because of the rain.

Lucknow (The Hawk): According to the "Har Ghar Nal Yojana," which was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, tap water connections will be available in homes in the parched and arid Vindhyachal and Bundelkhand regions by December.
The CM was addressing at Knowledge Park-4 in Greater Noida during the five-day India Water Week-2022. On Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu gave it a formal opening.
As part of the PM Narendra Modi's "Har Ghar Nal Yojana," Adityanath stated, "the provision of tap water connections in dry and arid portions of Vindhyachal and Bundelkhand regions is underway on war footing and the process will be concluded in December this year." The much-anticipated 85-cusec Gangajal Water Project was among the development projects worth Rs 1,670 crore that the chief minister unveiled for Greater Noida. The $848 million, 85-cusec Gangajal project would supply water to 28 residential areas in Greater Noida.
According to a government press release, Adityanath was cited as saying, "A 176-km pipeline network has been laid here, and 19 reservoirs have been built in 5 acres for a cost of Rs 376 crore. Through this pipeline, 4 lakh people would have clean drinking water.
"Gautam Budh Nagar is developing into the top location for investments. New things have come here during the past five and a half years. The largest airport in Asia is developing in Jewar, and a number of additional projects, including a film city and a park for medical technology, will shortly go into effect.
According to the CM, the Namami Gange project has taken a number of measures to clean the Ganga river. The Sisamau sewer point in Kanpur, where the river was formerly the most filthy in the state due to the release of a significant volume of garbage everyday, has now turned into a selfie site, he continued.

Noida (The Hawk): Bundelkhand, in Uttar Pradesh, has been experiencing a severe water shortage that has compelled residents to request water trucks, which the villages eventually consume.
Given the water exploitation in the area, Gautam Buddh Nagar is predicted to experience a similar or most likely worse predicament.
In a landmark decision, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered all illegal borewells in Greater Noida Extension to be sealed, and the penalty amount for the illegal extraction of water up to that point had to be recovered, in response to a petition filed by environmental activists Prasoon Pant and Pradeep Dahlia.
The petitioners claimed that at 63 locations in the area, 40 contractors were unlawfully extracting groundwater. In recognition of this, the green organisation imposed interim environmental compensation on the builders equal to 0.5% of their project costs, in addition to future corrective action.
Within a month of the date of the ruling, all of these builders would need to deposit the fine with the relevant district magistrates and the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), failing to do so would result in strong enforcement by the authorities.
The NOC was given a month by the NGT.
According to the directive, if the establishments don't apply for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) within a month, state PCBs will shut them down. Applications submitted may be reviewed in the following month.
On October 7, 2022, a joint committee made up of the District Magistrate, the State PCB, and the Central PCB submitted their report to the NGT on 33 group housing developments, of which 25 were discovered to be illegally collecting water. According to the report, unlicensed borewells should be demolished and groundwater exploitation violators should pay a fee.
When did NGT give the committee the case?
On July 5, 2022, the tribunal established a combined committee comprising the CPCB, State PCB, and District Magistrate of Noida to investigate the facts and obtain a report on the steps taken in the case.
If the committee discovers any offensive material, they were instructed to tell the affected parties about the proceedings.
Additionally, it was instructed to transmit a copy of the report to the parties in question before the next hearing date.
What claims do environmentalists make?
In an interview with IANS, Pradeep Dahlia claimed that the builders in Gautam Buddh Nagar had been overly exploiting water. He added that formerly, the water was found below 20 to 25 metres, but now it isn't even found below 200 metres.
According to Dahlia, the water level has been dropping by 5 metres year.
He said that because of the irreparable harm to the environment, it would be impossible for people to have access to water in the future.
"Instructions have been provided to ensure separate digital metres for the establishments supplying water from local bodies and the ones using ground water, which is not being done at the moment," Dahlia added.

No NOC, no borewell: The NGT takes action against rampant exploitation in Gautam Buddh Nagar

Lucknow: With the aim to bring the Bundelkhand region into the mainstream of development, the Uttar Pradesh government headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved Rs 225 crores to complete the projects of various departments. As part of its ongoing pursuit to bring the Bundelkhand region at par with the developed regions within the country, the UP government has completed all the projects of three out of six departments by the third phase of the Bundelkhand package and is working on finishing the projects of the remaining departments, earmarked for the year 2023-2024. The government will also use a total of Rs 116.72 crore, including surplus money of Rs 60.70 crore of the departments, for the development of the region, said a statement. "Recently, the Bundelkhand package was reviewed under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra. Approval was granted on the proposals of the Livestock, Agriculture, Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply departments. The Chief Secretary also approved Rs 103.16 crores for a dairy plant of one lakh litres per day capacity in Banda by the Milk Development Department", the release stated. Additionally, Rs 43.56 crore was approved for the incomplete works of the Broiler Rearing Scheme for women's empowerment, it added. The statement further said, "Similarly, Rs 17.14 crore was sanctioned for the construction of check dams, modernization of ponds and blast wells in Bundelkhand under Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply schemes. Apart from this, the Agriculture Department approved Rs 42.79 crores for a water harvesting check dam and multipurpose farm pond project." Under the third phase of the Bundelkhand package, works of Rs 65 crores and Rs 25 crores have been completed in the Horticulture Department and Agriculture Department respectively, as per the statement. The release further stated that the projects under the Irrigation and Water Resources Departments worth more than Rs 255 crores have also been completed. "Besides, two works worth more than Rs 55 crores of the Livestock Department have been completed, while a project worth Rs 44 crores has been approved", it added. Furthermore, Rs 247 crores have already been spent on three projects related to Namami Gange and the Rural Water Supply Department, which would be completed with an additional investment of Rs 16.5 crores. Rs 107 crore has been spent on projects related to milk development and a capacity expansion plan is also being prepared. In all, Rs 917 crore was approved for various projects in the third phase, out of which Rs 756 crore has been spent while more than Rs 100 crore has been saved by the departments, it added. —ANI

Sagar: Party president Mallikarjun Kharge announced on Tuesday that if the Congress were to win the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, they would conduct a caste census in the state. Kharge made this announcement after accusing the central government of wanting to amend the Constitution.
While at Sagar, in the Bundelkhand region of MP, he spoke at a public rally.
Elections for the state legislature are scheduled for later this year in the BJP-controlled state.
"There are those who would amend the Constitution. Kharge, paying tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar, who was born in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, stated, "This is not possible because 140 crore people of the country are in support of the protection of the Constitution."
During the 2014 election cycle, Kharge blasted the ruling BJP for "remembering" Sant Ravidas, a hero to members of the Scheduled Castes.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi helped lay the groundwork for a memorial-come-temple dedicated to Sant Ravidas in Sagar district at a cost of Rs 100 crore.
According to the 2011 Census, there were 1.13 billion Dalits living in the state of MP.
It's been nine years since Modi ji took office, and Chouhan (Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan) has been in charge of the state for the past eighteen. When it came time to vote, that's when they remembered Ravidas," Kharge added.
Kharge said the BJP destroyed a Sant Ravidas temple in Delhi, citing a news article as evidence.
He promised that if the Congress gets elected in Madhya Pradesh, a university would be founded in Sagar district and named after Sant Ravidas.
Kharge added that, once in power again, the Congress party in MP will conduct a caste-based census.
In light of the current situation in Manipur, Kharge has stated that Prime Minister Modi is not doing "anything" to stem the bloodshed in the northeastern state.
He further said that Rahul Gandhi's recommended Bundelkhand package, which was accepted by the BJP government, had been ignored.
The BJP won Bina, Naryoli, Jatara, Chandala, and Hatta in the 2018 state elections; the Congress gained Gunnor, one of the six assembly seats allocated for SCs in Bundelkhand, in north-east MP.
The BJP won 15 of the 26 assembly seats in Bundelkhand in the most recent state elections. The Congress won nine seats, the Samajwadi Party won one, and the Bahujan Samaj Party won one.
