Budaun: Two people drowned in the River Ganga during an immersion ritual here, police said on Monday. The incident took place at Ataina Ghat in Ushait area on Sunday.Four friends identified as Abhay Pratap Singh (22), Shivam (21), Jaidev and Gulshan had gone to the ghat for immersing a 'kalash' (pot) after a religious event when the accident took place, Assistant Superintendent of Police, City, Praveen Singh Chauhan said. While Singh and Shivam died, Jaidev and Gautam were saved by locals. Bodies of the victims were later fished out by the police with the help of locals. A probe is on in the matter.—PTI

The incident took place in the afternoon near Idgah under Sahaswan Police Station area, they said. Nagma (19) and Imran (14) died on the spot while the two injured were admitted to a hospital, they said. The four were standing on the roadside, waiting for a bus when the speeding car hit them, Jagbir Singh, in-charge of Sahaswan Kotwali said. (PTI)

Lucknow: The death toll in Uttar Pradesh has risen to 28 as a result of the severe rains that have been falling there for the past three days, with a red warning having been issued on Tuesday in six districts, including the worst-hit Barabanki and Gonda. According to a state official, over 50 millimetres of rain fell in 10 districts across the state in the last 48 hours, while seven additional districts received over 100 millimetres. Over 250 millimetres of rain fell in the past day in some areas of Bahraich and Barabanki.
In the last 24 hours (from Monday evening at 6 p.m. to Tuesday evening at the same time), nine deaths have been reported. The office of the Relief Commissioner said that five people were killed by lightning, two were killed by flooding, and one person died from drowning.
It was reported that three people had died in Mirzapur, two in Prayagraj, and one in each of Sitapur and Budaun.—Inputs from Agencies

Budaun (Uttar Pradesh): In Uttar Pradesh's Budaun Double Murder case, the surviving brother of the two deceased children and an eyewitness to the incident has claimed that two people came to the house and took his brothers on the terrace. He also told ANI that the accused had tried to attack him but he pushed him away and fled from there.
"The man from the barber shop had come here. He took my brothers upstairs; I don't know why he killed them. He tried to attack me too, but I pushed away his knife, pushed him away and ran down. I suffered injuries in my hand and head. Two people (the accused) had come here," he said.

"When the children's mother went inside to take money, he said that he was feeling nervous, so he was going for a walk on the terrace. He took one of the children with him. He had a knife in his hand when my wife returned with money. Sajid told Vinod's wife that today I have completed my work," the FIR said. Further, the father of the deceased said that he didn't know why the two accused had killed his children. "Apart from my wife and my mother, many other people in the locality have also seen it, I had no enmity with Sajid and Javed. I don't know why these two killed my children. The dead bodies of my children are at home. Please write my report and take action," he said. Earlier, speaking to ANI, SSP Budaun Alok Priyadarshi said that the deceased's family has named the accused's brother also who is on the run. "The accused Sajid entered the house yesterday at around 7:30 pm and went to the terrace where the children were playing. He attacked the two children and murdered them. He then came down where the crowd tried to hold him back but he escaped. Police teams swung into action when they got to know that the accused had escaped. The accused fired at the police and was killed in retaliatory fire. The murder weapon and the revolver have been recovered. In the FIR, the family of the deceased children has also named the brother, Javed of the accused. Teams are working to find him and he will be arrested soon. According to the family, the accused had demanded Rs 5,000 from the father of the deceased children," he said.

Budaun (UP): The man who allegedly murdered two children at their home here knew the family and had gone there seeking money for payment to a hospital where his pregnant wife was admitted, the FIR said.
Hours after the murder on Tuesday evening, the accused Sajid (22) was gunned down in an encounter with the police, IG Bareilly range RK Singh told PTI.  The police on Wednesday detained the father and uncle of the accused.  The other accused, Sajid's brother Javed, is absconding, police said.  Sajid, who had recently opened a barber shop in the locality, allegedly attacked three brothers -- Ayush,12, Ahaan alias Honey, 8, and Yuvraj, 10, with a knife. Ayush and Ahaan died in the attack, while Yuvraj was rushed to a hospital with grievous wounds.

After the incident, Sajid’s shop was set on fire. Some other shops nearby and a motorcycle were also vandalised by local people and the boys' family members.  The FIR, based on the complaint by the victims’ father Vinod Kumar, said Sajid and his brother Javed reached the house at around 7 pm.  Sajid told his wife that he needed Rs 5,000 to pay the hospital for the delivery of his child.  When the wife went inside to get the money, Sajid went to the rooftop of the house. Moments later, Javed also reached the rooftop and they called Ayush and Ahaan, according to the complaint.  The accused attacked the minors with a sharp knife. When they came downstairs, Sangeeta saw that their clothes were drenched in blood.  According to the FIR, one of them said, “I have done my work today.”  The accused also attacked the third son Yuvraj who had gone upstairs to fetch some water. Yuvraj is admitted in hospital and his condition is said to be stable.  The boys’ father, who is a private contractor, was out of the district at the time of the incident. Apart from his wife Sangeeta, his mother was present at the house.  Police have also not confirmed the motive behind the incident.  They have booked both Javed and Sajid for murder (under IPC Section 302 IPC).  "We have detained one Babu, the father of Sajid and Javed and their uncle Kayamuddin for questioning. The move is part of our efforts to arrest Javed who is absconding," said Budaun’s Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Priyadarshi.  Nazarin, the mother of the accused, said that her sons faced the consequences of their actions.  "I don't know what was going on in their minds. They do not have any rivalry with anyone. I feel very sad for the children to whom this has been done," she told PTI Videos.  When asked about the police encounter, she added, "They faced the right consequence for their wrong actions."  Some right-wing Hindu groups staged a protest against the double murder on Wednesday morning.  Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav, who is also the party's nominee for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll in Budaun, slammed the government, saying law and order has “totally failed” in the state.  "The incident in Budaun is very saddening,” he told reporters.  On the encounter during which Sajid was shot dead, he said, "I congratulate the district and police administration for the action but the truth behind the incident must also come out."  The last rites of the two boys were performed after a post-mortem examination in the morning. There was heavy police presence at Kachchla Ghat during the rites, officials said.  There is a heavy police deployment in the area.

Budaun, UP: The father of the Budaun boys who were killed by a barber in their house set his bike on fire and tried to immolate himself too, upset over the fact the police have yet not been able to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
Two children were killed in the Baba colony area here on March 19.  Vinod Kumar, their father, after setting his bike on fire, tried to immolate himself but was stopped by police.  Vinod's mother Munni Devi said it's been six days since she lost her grandchildren but the police were yet to come up with a motive behind the cruelty.  "It seems that the police are hiding something," she said.  Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Priyadarshi said Vinod was missing his children because of Holi and set his bike on fire in rage.  "Seeing their shoes, clothes and other festival items, he could not stop himself and set fire to his bike to vent his anger," he said.  After the incident, Sajid and Javed, both barbers, were identified as the assailants.  While Sajid was killed in an encounter with police the same day, Javed had on March 22 surrendered at the Satellite Police Outpost of the Baradari Police Station in neighbouring Bareilly district.
According to police, Javed had been on the run since the killings and had stayed at his in-laws' house before moving to Delhi, where his acquaintances told him that the police were looking for him. He later surrendered.  Hours after the incident on March 19, Sajid was shot dead in an encounter with police.  Sajid had entered the house of a family he knew and allegedly attacked Ayush, 12, Ahaan alias Honey, 8, and Yuvraj, 10, with a knife.  Ayush and Ahaan died on the spot, while Yuvraj was admitted to the hospital with serious wounds.  The Budaun district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into Sajid's encounter.
