Chamoli: The traffic movement on Badrinath route, NH7, near Panchpulia in Uttarakhand's Karnaprayag was disrupted after boulders fell from the hill on Tuesday. Following the disruption, the Badrinath Yatra through this route was stopped due to the closure of the highway and the operation to open the route is underway.The Badrinath Yatra had resumed only a few hours ago before it was suspended on Monday amid heavy rainfall followed by falling boulders near Hanuman Chatti and rising water in Lambagad drain. The portals of Badrinath Dham were opened on May 8, with the carrying capacity of 16,000 devotees to the Dham in a day.According to the Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, as many as 115 vehicles had left Badrinath this morning, as soon as weather cleared in the morning. Located in Garhwal hill tracks in Chamoli district along the banks of Alaknanda River, Badrinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The shrine is one of the four ancient pilgrimage sites referred to as 'Char Dham' which also includes Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath. It is situated in the town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand. It remains open for six months every year between the end of April and the beginning of November.—ANI

Dehradun: The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) on Wednesday decided to provide insurance of one lakh rupees to the devotees in case of any kind of accident that happens with them on the temple premises of Chardham located in Uttarakhand.As many as 91 pilgrims have already lost their lives during the course of the Char Dam Yatra since it began on May 3, the officials of the Yatra informed on May 27. Uttarakhand Director-General (DG) of Health, Shailja Bhatt, had cited 'heart attack' as the primary reason behind the reported deaths.The officials had also informed about the additional deployment of 169 doctors on the Chardham Yatra route.Meawhile, twenty-six people, were killed and four others injured after the bus carrying pilgrims from Panna district in Madhya Pradesh fell into a deep gorge en route to the Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on June 5, according to officials. Besides the driver and the helper, there were 28 passengers on board.On May 30, a helicopter belonging to a private aviation company had an uncontrolled hard landing while landing at the Kedarnath helipad.As per the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee on Sunday (June 12), over 19 lakhs devotees undertook the Char Dham Yatra, of which a total of 19,04,253 (nineteen lakh four thousand two hundred fifty-three) pilgrims had reached the Uttarakhand Chardham.From May 8 to June 11 evening, 6,57,547 pilgrims had reached Badrinath Dham while 6,33,548 pilgrims had arrived at the Kedarnath Dham from May 6 to the evening of June 11.The Uttarakhand government, on May 11, had announced its decision to increase the number of pilgrims by 1,000 each to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. As many as 16,000 devotees can now visit Badrinath and 13,000 can have 'darshan' of the deity at Kedarnath Dham in a day whereas 8,000 and 5,000 pilgrims can visit Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham respectively in a day. The doors of the Gangotri-Yamunotri Dham were opened on May 3 and the portals of Kedarnath and Badrinath were opened on May 6 and May 8 respectively. This year, the registrations for Yatra have also observed a new record as more than 10 lakh pilgrims have registered. —ANI

Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand): Due to the onset of monsoon in Uttarakhand and in some parts of the country, vehicular movement on the Badrinath-Kedarnath highway has been disrupted due to debris.According to Rudraprayag police, the Sirobgad area in Rudraprayag district is closed since 4 am today, debris and stones have been falling continuously from the hill.Due to this, there is a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the highway. However, after the wheels of the vehicles were jammed for hours, the movement is done through an alternate route, the police said.Earlier on Sunday, the Meteorological Department of Uttarakhand issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in the state till Wednesday. Meanwhile, the department has issued a red alert for rain in the Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh regions of Uttarakhand.Earlier also the Badrinath highway was blocked due to the falling of several boulders at Birahi and Pagal Nala following the overnight rainfall on Saturday. Dehradun: The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) urged the Uttarakhand government on Tuesday to build cloak rooms near the Himalayan temples where pilgrims can leave their mobile phones and wallets before entering the temple premises.The request was made by BKTC chairman Ajendra Ajay in a letter addressed to Chief Secretary SS Sandhu.Ajay"s letter came after a video clip purportedly shot inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Kedarnath temple went viral on social media platforms.Alleging that the video was shot inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple by a devotee and posted on social media, the BKTC chairman said such activities can only be stopped when there are cloak rooms near the temples where devotees can deposit their mobile phones, electronic equipment, bags and wallets before entering the temple premises.Ajay has also asked BKTC CEO BD Singh to probe how the video was allowed to be shot inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and seek an explanation from the officials who were on duty at the time.Devotees entering the temple with mobile phones and other electronic gadgets is not good for their own safety, he said.&nbsp;—PTI

Chamoli: With the beginning of the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign ahead of the 75th Independence Day, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Saturday took out a Tiranga yatra along with locals and pilgrims in Badrinath.
Starting from the Badrinath temple, the yatra was carried out to Badrinath Nagar area and Mana village.
ITBP personnel took out a bike rally carrying the national flag. People chanted patriotic slogan.
The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign will run till August 15. 'Har Ghar Tiranga' is a campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India's independence.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of India's people, culture and achievements.
The programme envisages inspiring Indians everywhere to hoist the national flag at their homes. The aim of the programme is to make the relationship with the national flag a more personal one rather than just keeping it formal or institutional.
The idea behind the initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and promote awareness about tricolour.
Earlier, Indian citizens were not allowed to hoist the National Flag except on selected occasions. This changed after a decade-long legal battle by industrialist Naveen Jindal culminated in the landmark SC judgement of January 23, 2004 that declared that the right to fly the National Flag freely with respect and dignity is a fundamental right of an Indian citizen within the meaning of Article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution of India.

Badrinath: Ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi this month, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday inspected the ongoing works in Badrinath Dham.
PM Modi will visit Uttarakhand on October 21 where he will lay the foundation stone of connectivity projects worth around Rs 3,500 crore.
The Chief Minister also offered prayers at the shrine there.
Speaking to ANI here, CM Dhami said that PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of a few roads and Hemkund Ropeway.
"Work is going on swiftly on Badrinath Master Plan. We have made the target to finish all the work by December 2023. PM will arrive here (in the state) on Oct 21 and he will lay the foundation stone of a few roads and Hemkund Ropeway," he said. The CM further said that PM Modi will also visit Kedarnath to lay the foundation stone of the cable car. The Prime Minister will also address a public rally in Kedarnath.
"He will also go to Kedarnath Dham where he will lay the foundation stone of the Kedarnath Cable car. PM will also visit Mana village and meet the local people. He will also address a public rally there," he added.
The Prime Minister will perform darshan and pooja at Shri Kedarnath Temple and at the Badrinath Temple.
He will also review the progress of development work at Kedarnath and Badrinath.
According to the PMO office, in Kedarnath, at around 8:30 am, he will perform darshan and pooja at the Kedarnath Temple.
At around 9 pm, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the Kedarnath Ropeway Project. After that, he will visit the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Samadhi Sthal and at around 9:25 am, Prime Minister will review the progress of development works along Mandakini Asthapath and Saraswati Asthapath.
Thereafter, Prime Minister will reach Badrinath where, at around 11:30 am, Prime Minister will perform darshan and pooja at Shri Badrinath Temple. At 12 noon, he will review the progress of the development work of the riverfront, followed by laying the foundation stone of the road and ropeway projects at Mana village at 12:30 pm. Thereafter, at around 2 pm, he will review the progress of the development work of the arrival plaza and lakes.
The ropeway in Kedarnath will be around 9.7 Km long and will connect Gaurikund to Kedarnath, reducing the travel time between the two places from 6-7 hours at present, to only about 30 mins.
The Hemkund ropeway will connect Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib.
It will be around 12.4 Km long and will reduce the travel time from more than a day to only about 45 mins. This ropeway will also connect Ghangaria, which is the gateway to Valley of Flowers National Park.
The ropeways, which will be developed at a cumulative cost of around Rs 2430 crore, are an environmental friendly mode of transport that will provide a safe, secure and stable mode of transport. This major infrastructure development will give a boost to religious tourism, which will give a fillip to the economic development in the region and lead to the creation of multiple employment opportunities as well.
"Foundation stone of road widening projects worth around Rs 1000 crore will also be laid during the visit. The two road widening projects - from Mana to Mana Pass (NH07) and from Joshimath to Malari (NH107B) - shall be another step towards providing last-mile all-weather road connectivity to our border areas. Apart from boosting connectivity, these projects will also prove beneficial from a strategic point of view as well," the PMO said in a statement.
Kedarnath and Badrinath are one of the most important Hindu shrines. The area is also known for one of the revered Sikh Pilgrim site- Hemkund Sahib.
The connectivity projects being undertaken shows the Prime Minister's commitment to ease access and improve basic infrastructure in places of religious significance. —ANI

After the eclipse, the pujas will be performed in the evening, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Shri Kedarnath-Badrinath Temple Committee added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at Badrinath temple on Friday. Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami accompanied Prime Minister at the shrine.
Before arriving in Badrinath, PM Modi visited Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag and offered prayers donning a traditional pahadi outfit, Chola Dora, that was gifted to him by Himachali women during his tour to the state. PM Modi arrived at Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun earlier in the day and was received by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmeet Singh. He later laid the foundation stone of the Kedarnath ropeway project and after that visited the Adi Guru Shankaracharya Samadhi Sthal. He reviewed the progress of development works along Mandakini Asthapath and Saraswati Asthapath. PM Modi also interacted with the construction workers engaged in the Kedarnath Dham development project.

Badrinath: In view of the total lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan), the doors of Badrinath Temple were closed earlier today and would remain so till late evening.
"Badrinath Dham Temple closed for the lunar eclipse. The temple will re-open at 6:25 pm after the eclipse", Ajendra Ajay, Chairman of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee told ANI.
Due to the Lunar Eclipse, temples across India have been closed since morning and would remain closed till 6:30 pm in the evening. Temples have announced that after performing the Sandhya Aarti and other rituals for purification, the temples would be opened to the public.
A Lunar eclipse happens when the Sun, Earth, and a Full Moon form a near-perfect Syzygy in space. The Moon slides into the Earth's shadow and gradually darkens until the entire lunar disc turns into an eerie red or dim orange from its usual silvery grey shade. The event unfolds in reverse order further, until the moon returns to its full brilliance.The November 8th lunar eclipse is the last lunar eclipse of the year and the second total lunar eclipse in the year 2022, the earlier was on May 15-16th. Today's eclipse would be visible across India along with parts of Asia, North America, Australia, and a few places in Europe as well as in the entire North America. The next Lunar eclipse is predicted to be on the 5th of May, 2023.
Every year, from anywhere between four to seven times, the Sun, Moon, and Earth line up in a Syzygy, forming what is called either the Solar or Lunar Eclipse. —ANI

Joshimath: Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee on Thursday offered prayers for the speedy recovery of Heeraben, mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the holy shrine in Uttarakhand, on Thursday.
Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee President Ajendra Ajay said that prayers were offered after Abhishek Puja at Shri Omkareshwar Temple Ukhimath, Winter Abode of Lord Kedarnath.
The priests of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee also performed prayers for the good health of Heeraben Modi (99) at Shri Narasimha Temple Joshimath and Yog Badri Pandukeshwar.
"Apart from this, prayers were also offered in temples subordinate to the temple committee including Vishwanath Temple Guptkashi, famous Shaktipeeth Kalimath, Shri Triyuginarayan Temple, Shri Markateshwar Temple Makkumath," Ajendra Ajay said.
Prime Minister Modi's mother Heeraben Modi was on Wednesday admitted to hospital and her condition is reported to be stable.
PM Modi visited his mother at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre.
Several leaders, ministers and world leaders wished a speedy recovery to PM Modi's mother after she was admitted to a hospital.
Taking to Twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, "The love between a mother and a son is eternal and priceless. Modi ji, my love, and support is with you in this difficult time. I hope your mother gets well soon."
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also wished for PM Modi's mother's speedy recovery and said, "We all are with him (PM Modi) in this hour."
Sri Lanka's former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today wished speedy recovery to Heeraben.
"I wish my good friend PM @narendramodi's mother Smt Heeraben Modi ji a speedy recovery from her recent ailment. Our prayers are with her for healing and good health," Mahinda Rajapaksa said in a tweet.
Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon extended his 'good wishes' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi after she was admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad.
"Praying for the good health &amp; speedy recovery of PM @narendramodi's mother Smt #HeerabenModi ji," Naor Gilon said in a tweet on Wednesday.
Later on, the hospital said that Heeraben Modi's health condition is recovering.
The Gujarat Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in a statement said that Heeraben, who was admitted on Wednesday at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad, will be discharged soon.
"Heeraba's health is very good. Her health is recovering rapidly. She is likely to be discharged in a day or so," the CMO said in a statement on Thursday. —ANI

Gopeshwar: Nearly 30 families in the Himalayan town of Joshimath have been evacuated to safer locations with several houses in the area prone to high seismic activity developing cracks, according to officials.
Located at a height of 6,000 feet in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, the town, on the route to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib, falls in high-risk seismic ‘Zone-V’. So far, 561 houses in different areas of the town have developed cracks, including 153 in Ravigram, 127 in Gandhinagar, 71 in Manoharbagh, 52 in Singhdhar, 50 in Parsari, 29 in Upper Bazar, 27 in Suneel, 28 in Marwadi and 24 in Lower Bazar, District Disaster Management Officer NK Joshi said. The degree of damage to the houses differ and till now, 29 families from the most affected houses have been shifted temporarily to safer places from the town, he said, adding that more families could be evacuated if required. The locations where they have been shifted to include the Nagar Palika Bhawan, a primary school building, the Milan Kendra and the Joshimath Gurudwara, the official said. Some of the families have also been shifted for the time being to the places of their relatives, Joshi said. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the situation in Joshimath is being closely monitored and he will himself visit the place to assess the situation. Officials said a team of experts has also been set up to conduct a survey of the place that falls in the high risk seismic ‘Zone-V’.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Higher mountain ranges in Joshimath including Chamoli district and the holy shrine of Badrinath in Chamoli district were covered in a blanket of snow received fresh snowfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in its weather report predicted "light to moderate rain/snowfall" likely to occur over most places in the state.

However, the minimum temperature did not slip down to negative degrees. The report stated maximum temperatures remained above "normal" in the hills here.
Meanwhile, several parts of Himachal Pradesh were also covered in a thick blanket of snow.
Trees and houses in Mandhol were covered in white, while locals preferred to remain in the warm confines of their homes amid the heavy snowfall.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum and minimum temperatures in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday were recorded at 6 degrees Celsius and -4 degrees Celsius.
In the state's higher reaches, Narkanda, Manali and the Malana villages in the Kullu district also received snowfall. Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district also received a fresh round of snow and temperature in the region dipped significantly after the snowfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in its weather report stated that with the fresh snowfall on higher reaches and rains in the plains the graph of temperature has once again descended across the Doda region. "The entire region has been gripped by a cold wave forcing people to wear warm clothes and stay indoors. The rush of people in Doda markets disappeared as people preferred to stay indoors due to the cold wave," the Regional Meteorological Centre stated.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum and minimum temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday were recorded at 8 degrees Celsius and 0 degrees Celsius. —ANI

Joshimath: Cracks of one to two metre long have devloped on the Badrinath National Highway in Joshimath, which is the only road that leads to Badrinath, a place of faith for millions of Hindus.

Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Sinha said that the administration has been keeping a close watch on the land subsidence of the highway.

Sinha stated that the concerned agencies have been instructed to repair the road. He said it would be completely repaired before the Char Dham yatra.

Repairing the road before the yatra would pose as a big challenge for the government.

Significantly, the number of structures that have developed cracks in the holy city has increased to 863.

In view of the cracks, along with the obstruction of the road to Badrinath Dham, the contact of the Indian Army with the China border may also be cut off.

Geologist Prof M.P.S. Bisht, after visiting the area, said that the pattern of the cracks is parallel.

Apart from this, sinking of the huge stones on the side of the road is also becoming a casue of concern for the government.

Dehradun: The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) on Wednesday said that the preparations for the Char Dham yatra 2023 began soon after the temples' portals shut last year.
Talking to ANI about the preparations for the Char Dham Yatra, scheduled to start in April, Chairman Temple Committee President Ajay Ajendra said, "The preparations for the yatra had started after the closure of the doors in winter. All the departments related to the Yatra have presented their action plan before Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. CM Dhami has also given guidelines to rectify problematic issues."
He further said that the administration is expecting a large number of devotees this year as well, and for that teams of the temple committee have been sent for deployment at the four temples-- Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri.
"This year also, the devotees are expected to come in huge numbers. In this sequence, four teams of Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee were sent to the four big temples of the country," he said adding that they would study the situations there and will prepare reports and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be made on its basis only.
Notably, the Uttarakhand government in its latest decision has asked every pilgrim to undergo a compulsory registration process mandatorily and in this regard.
Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand Government, SS Sandhu, stated that this time it is estimated that more pilgrims will come for Char Dham Yatra than the last time, hence several new arrangements have been made.
The state government is also planning to communicate the recently issued directives through pan-India newspaper advertising across all languages in every state.
It is pertinent to mention that the Char Dham Yatra that, this year, the yatra is likely to undergo an alternate route because of the recent land subsidence in Joshimath town of Uttarakhand which is believed as the last stop to reach Badrinath. While taking note of the importance of the issue of Pilgrim's safety Chief Minister Dhami said "Char Dhams of Uttarakhand are major centres of religious faith for the devotees. It is the responsibility of all of us that the journey of all the devotees should be safe and smooth." Char Dham Yatra is scheduled to begin in the month of April 2023. —ANI

This pilgrimage is a tour of four holy sites - Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri - nestled high up in the Himalayas. The high-altitude shrines remain shut for around six months every year, opening in summer (April or May) and closing with the onset of winter (October or November). On April 27, the doors of Lord Badri Vishal will be opened for devotees. Therefore, various works should be expedited. The devotees should not face any kind of inconvenience due to the construction works." He further added that due to the reconstruction work, the devotees will have to reach the temple through a new footpath this time. "The new pedestrian route should be organized in a time-bound manner so that the passengers do not face any kind of inconvenience", he said. He also inspected the demolished buildings and shops near the temple premises. "The personnel associated with the worship system of the temple should not face any residential problem, for these pre-fabricated rooms should be constructed near the temple as an immediate arrangement", he added. He also directed the officials to dispose of the debris of the demolished VIP guest house of BKTC near the temple at the earliest and to construct a railing on the temple path near it. Ajay said that after the demolition of the VIP guest house, the construction of the pre-fabricated room being constructed for a quick rest of the distinguished dignitaries coming during the yatra this year should be completed at the earliest. He also asked to remove the debris and stones located in the Brahma Kapal complex as soon as possible and make the complex neat and clean, so that there would be no difficulty for the devotees arriving for Pind Daan etc. The construction work of the shoe stand being done should be started immediately, he added. Ajay directed the officers to fix contracts and rent as per rules with BKTC's Dharamshalas and lands acquired and rehabilitation of pilgrimage priests and affected people. The doors of Kedarnath Dham will open on April 25 and Badrinath Dham on April 27. Chamoli: Aiming to strengthen the health services, the Uttarakhand government has installed 10 health ATMs on the Badrinath and Hemkund Yatra routes, according to an official statement. State health secretary Dr R Rajesh took stock of the health arrangements while inaugurating health ATMs at Primary Health Centres in Gauchar and Karnprayag on Thursday, the statement said. The government is engaged in preparations to facilitate the journey of pilgrims coming from the country and the world during the Char Dham yatra, it said. As per the statement released on Thursday, Kumar also gave necessary guidelines to the hospital administration for the smooth functioning of the Health ATMs and asked officials to keep a technical person posted at these ATMs for the convenience of the pilgrims. The Health Secretary said, "I have asked Chief Medical Officer, Pauri, to work promptly with the paramedical staff in travel arrangements with complete preparations. 50 health ATMs have been set up by Hewlett Packard Enterprises under CSR in various medical units identified in Garhwal division on the Yatra route for health screening pilgrims. Parameters like blood pressure, sugar level, body temperature, oxygen content, body fat, 70 free tests including dehydration, pulse rate will be done." "Health services are being improved on the yatra route, and the number of Health ATMs will be increased in the coming time. The officer was directed to run an intensive checking campaign of food items in various hotels, dhabas and restaurants by forming a team on the travel route coming under Pauri district," he said. Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state government has made all arrangements to ensure that everyone's Char Dham Yatra is smooth. "All the preparations for Char Dham Yatra have been completed. More than 12 lakh people have registered, and we have made all arrangements to ensure that everyone's journey is smooth," CM Dhami told ANI. On Sunday, Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) President Ajendra Ajay also visited Badrinath temple along with officials of various departments and inspected the ongoing reconstruction works and reviewed the travel arrangements. The Char Dham Yatra is slated to start from April 22 this year.
