New Delhi: Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal claimed on Wednesday that former AAP ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain have national support and that their arrest was meant to "halt the wonderful work being done" in the nation's capital.
Speaking to reporters during a meeting with AAP legislators and municipal officials, the chief minister issued a challenge to the BJP: "In other words, AAP is a typhoon. Our moment has come, and we will be unstoppable." He said that Sisodia's detention in the excise policy issue was merely an excuse, and that the government's good work will continue unabated under the leadership of the new ministers.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to halt all of Delhi's progress. But I need to get the word out that things will be moving along at twice the normal rate. Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj, two new members of the Cabinet who both have advanced degrees, will continue the government's good job at twice the rate "Says Kejriwal.
Kejriwal stated, "If the necessity arises, we shall see" when asked if there would be a deputy chief minister. In the wake of the COVID-19 issue, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain resigned as ministers in the Delhi administration.
The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Sisodia on Sunday for alleged irregularities in the development and implementation of the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. Sisodia is the AAP's number two.

New Delhi: On Sunday, Atishi, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claimed that Manish Sisodia, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was mentally tortured by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and coerced into signing a false confession paper while in custody.
On February 26, the CBI arrested the former deputy of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
Speaking at a press conference here, Atishi questioned the CBI’s actions while highlighting “the agency’s failure to prove any corruption charges against Sisodia”.
The AAP legislator from Kalkaji constituency asserted that despite thousands of hours of investigation, the full-time involvement of over 500 officers, thousands of pages of chargesheets, and over 50 hours of raids, “the investigation agencies have not been able to prove the corruption of even one rupee against Sisodia”.
She claimed that it is not uncommon to hear of persons being tortured while in police custody, with fake confessions being signed under duress.
“If this could happen to Delhi’s former Deputy Chief Minister, it is a matter of great concern for the entire country, and there is a possibility that it could happen to anyone in the future,” she said.
Atishi added that neither the initial chargesheet nor the additional chargesheet filed by the CBI mentioned Sisodia by name.
“Then it was predicted that his name might appear on the ED’s chargesheet. However, Manish Sisodia was not even named in the chargesheet submitted by the ED,” she said, adding his name did not appear on any of these chargesheets, as neither the CBI nor the ED has any evidence against him.
The AAP legislator further accused the CBI of arresting Sisodia without any proof "to please its political masters".
“He was arrested on the basis of a false charge of non-cooperation and that his arrest was not made on the basis of any evidence or documentary proof,” she said.—Inputs from Agencies

New Delhi: The Delhi government has called a special session of the Legislative Assembly on April 17, a day after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned to appear before the CBI in connection with the alleged excise policy scam case.

According to sources, the Assembly will discuss the fact that certain powers are creating an atmosphere against the developmental works being carried out by the AAP-led Delhi government.

"In this special session, a committee report on the issue of unanswered questions from MLAs Rajesh Gupta and Atishi, and the Services Department, will be presented on the floor of the House," the sources said.

In response to the CBI summon, Kejriwal has claimed that the central probe agencies were going to extreme heights to target their strongest political rivals.

Referring to the arrest of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia's, Kejriwal said on Saturday that these agencies have falsely claimed that 14 phones were destroyed, lying to the courts in affidavits, torturing suspects to extract falsified confessions and employing thuggish threats.

The agencies have not found a single penny of ill-gotten wealth that they claim was amassed from the so-called liquor scam, the Chief Minister added. IANS

New Delhi: The BJP on Sunday accused senior AAP leaders of presenting a “twisted and misleading” reference to a court's bail order in the Delhi excise policy case and demanded that a contempt of court proceeding be initiated against them.

The BJP's reaction came after Delhi minister Atishi told a press conference earlier in the day that the Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to accused Rajesh Joshi and Gautam Malhotra in the case observing that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) could not show evidence of any cash payment for bribe or kickback.

Later, in a tweet, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the liquor policy case "bogus" and alleged that it was registered by the probe agency only to malign the image of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hitting back, Union minister Meenakshi Lekhi charged that the AAP leaders are “spreading lies” and “misleading” people by portraying the court's bail order as its judgement in the case.&nbsp;

“Order on bail is not an order on discharge or acquittal,” the BJP MP from New Delhi constituency said, adding that “neither of the two accused have been discharged or acquitted in the case”.&nbsp;

The AAP leaders read the court's bail order “in parts” and did not mention that the court also made it clear that its observations made in the order were “only for the purpose of deciding the bail applications of the applicants and nothing contained in this order shall tantamount to the expression of any opinion on merits of the case”, Lekhi told reporters here.

“The bail order has been portrayed as to be an order that there is no scam and no wrong has been done. Reading the court's bail order in parts, they have tried to mislead people once again,” she alleged.

The ED has “enough and ample evidence” of corruption which will be examined, cross examined and verified during the trial of the case, which is yet to begin, she said.

“I demand that contempt proceedings be initiated against such people who are playing with the court orders and misrepresenting it to change the public opinion,” Lekhi said.

“You can not misinterpret and misrepresent the orders of the court. A twisted reference and observations to the court orders amounts to contempt of court,” she added.

The Union minister said that a court, while rejecting the bail application of former Delhi Minister Manish Sisodia, had noted that the prosecution was still able to show “a genuine and prima facie case for involvement of the applicant in commission of the alleged offence of money laundering”.&nbsp;

Atishi should have also read the observations made by the court in its order, while rejecting Sisodia bail application, “to know who is the brain behind the scam”, she charged.

“Scandal after scandal is what they (AAP) are involved in with the latest being operation 'Sheesh Mahal' (a reference to Rs 45 crore expenditure on Kejriwal's official residence),” Lekhi claimed.

“These are the people who are constantly involved in scams, kickbacks, obfuscation, destruction of evidence and constantly leading a life of falsity and not truthfullness. They should apologise to the court, the BJP and the people, and return the money that they have made in scams to the country,” ,” she alleged. PTI

New Delhi: A day after sodomy cases with two school students were reported, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday ordered immediate suspension of the concerned teachers and vice principal who failed to report the incident to the police, even after one of the children had informed them about it.  On the CM's direction, Education Minister Atishi has written to the Directorate of Education to ensure rigorous training of all the principals, and teachers on provisions of POCSO to avoid such incidents in future.  "Chief Minister and I have seen the news reports of the sexual assault of the two boys of our schools by their classmates. This is a deeply disturbing act. It is especially worrying that the students had informed the teachers and the vice principal but they did not bring it to the notice of the police or any higher authorities. Not only is this immoral, but also against the law. As per the POCSO Act, non-reporting of sexual abuse - by any adult who is aware of the abuse is a criminal offence," read the letter written by Aitshi.
Atishi has mentioned that the "incident should make us reflect and take corrective measures. We must do everything to ensure children are safe and secure at all times.  "CM has directed that Directorate of Education should take the following measures: - While the criminal proceedings into the matter will continue, the concerned teachers and vice principal should be suspended immediately. Disciplinary action should be initiated against them for failing to report the matter to the police.  "(2) Ensure rigorous training of all the principals, and the teachers on provisions of POCSO, mandatory reporting, tools for early identification of abuse, types of abuse, impact of abuse on children and remedial measures enabling capacity building of teachers to support such students.  "(3) Prepare high quality material for reference of all teachers and principals and issue guidelines for schools to handle cases of abuse in a supportive environment for children," read her letter.  Atishi assured that the Delhi government's "unwavering commitment to a safe and secure environment in the schools for the holistic development of the students".

Delhi's Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and PWD Minister Atishi jointly unveiled the city-wide beautification plans of the Delhi government.
Atishi said: "The G20 summit was successfully conducted due to the strict self-discipline showcased by the people of Delhi and the hard work of all government agencies. During the preparations for G20, many roads across the city were redesigned and beautified, landscaping was done across various parts of the city, and lights and fountains were installed at various spots.
"The key areas of Delhi were decorated, well-maintained and beautified to welcome G20 guests from the world over. Following this success, today, on behalf of the Delhi government, MCD, and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, we would like to promise the people of Delhi that the whole city will be beautified in the coming time on the lines of key areas of G20. All the areas of Delhi will be beautified, maintained, and illuminated in the same way in the future," she said.
She said that in Delhi, there are 1,400 km of PWD roads.
The work on these roads will include beautification, lighting, landscaping, and improving footpaths.

New Delhi: 32 students including 9 girls from Delhi Government’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School (AFPS) have cleared the National Defence Academy (NDA) written exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission. On this occasion, Education Minister Atishi visited the AFPS Jharoda Kalan campus on Wednesday and congratulated students for their success. She further motivated the students to put in double the efforts for clearing SSB now. Sharing this news on X (formerly Twitter) CM Arvind Kejriwal said,"Delighted to share that 32 students from Delhi's Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School have cleared the NDA exam, one of the highest number from any school across the country." "In just one year Delhi’s Armed Force Preparatory school has shown excellent results. I am sure that more and more students from Delhi will now clear the NDA exam and make our country proud as future officers. Delhi will always be ready to serve the nation," he further stated.  Appreciating the efforts of students, Education Minister Atishi said, "The vision of CM Arvind Kejriwal behind starting AFPS seems to be getting fulfilled within a year. He started the school to provide opportunities to children from underprivileged backgrounds to become military officers and serve the nation. It's a tremendous achievement that out of our 76 students who took the exam, of which 32 students cleared the written exam." Encouraging the students, she told them to put in double the effort to turn their dream of being army officers into reality. "There is no Sainik School in Delhi and until a year ago there was no formal education system to support preparation for the armed forces exam. Despite having a strong will to serve the nation, Delhi children were not getting the opportunities. It is a matter of great pride that the first batch of AFPS has achieved this milestone. I am confident that in the future it will produce many armed forces personnel and the entire country will be proud of them," Atishi said. "All 76 students from AFPS in the 12th grade took the NDA exam, and 32 of them including 9 girls have succeeded. Additionally, this school of the Kejriwal government now stands second after the Uttarakhand-based Sainik School, Ghorakhal (established in 1966), in terms of the number of students who have passed the NDA exam," an official statement issued by Delhi government said.  On December 20, 2021, in a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, it was decided to establish a special school in Delhi where children would be given training for recruitment in the armed forces like the NDA, Navy, Air Force, etc. In less than a year, the Delhi government established this school, and it was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on August 27, 2022, statement said.  Delhi Government said that currently there are a total of 237 students enrolled in classes 9th, 10th, and 12th in this school. In class 12th, there are a total of 76 students, all of whom have taken the NDA examination, and out of these, 32 students have passed the written exam. —ANI

New Delhi [India]: In response to the arrest of Rajya Sabha leader Sanjay Singh in connection with the alleged liquor scam, Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi on Thursday gave an open challenge to BJP and asked the ruling party to provide proof for the RS leader's arrest. "I want to challenge the BJP that even if a single rupee of corruption is found from Sanjay Singh's residence, then the proof should be presented before the country. I want to ask the BJP that they have raided Sanjay Singh's residence, I invite them to send ED, and CBI to raid his paternal house and his bank locker. I can challenge that not even a single paisa of corruption would be found," the Delhi Minister said.
Speaking at a press conference today, the AAP leader said, "They are investigating the liquor scam. The ED and CBI have deployed more than 500 officers on this investigation for the last 15 months." "But even after 15 months, these agencies along with the BJP-led central government have not been able to present proof of corruption of even one rupee before the court or before the country," she added. The AAP leader alleged that the agency had arrested both Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh without providing proof. "First, they conducted raids at Manish Sisodia's house. They could not find anything there, they conducted raids at his locker, his office and even his paternal home. But the BJP doesn't need any proof, they arrested Sisodia ji without even a single proof of corruption," she said. "The same incident is taking place with Sanjay Singh. Yesterday, Ed conducted raids at his 4-room house. They stayed there for 8 hours and raided it for 8 hours, searching every nook and corner of the house but could not find anything" Atishi added.
The Delhi Minister said that even if the agency were to raid all places visited by AAP MP Sanjay Singh they would not find anything. "I want to tell the BJP to send the ED and the CBI to every place Sanjay Singh has been in the country and I challenge them that even after going to all these places they will not find a single rupee of corruption, said the Delhi Minister. Earlier in the day, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur took potshots at the Aam Admi Party. He also targeted the AAP supremo, Arvind Kejriwal, and said, "People to whom Kejriwal issued a certificate of honesty are in jail ." The arrest of Sanjay Singh is the second high-profile arrest in the case after former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia. The federal agency on Wednesday morning raided the residence of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in connection with the now-cancelled liquor excise policy in the national capital. The development followed closely on the heels of the ED's raid on the premises belonging to two of Sanjay Singh's close aides in the same context. The agency claims that Singh and his partners played a part in the Delhi government's decision to give licenses to alcohol shops and merchants in 2020, causing losses to the state exchequer and violating anti-corruption laws.

New Delhi: Delhi Minister Atishi on Tuesday sounded an alert for severe water crisis in the national capital, citing the paucity of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) funds which have been halted since August on the instructions of the Chief Secretary and Finance Secretary Ashish Verma.  Atishi, who was given the charge of the Water Department in place of Saurabh Bharadwaj, said that despite the Finance Minister's written orders, funds were not being released, causing difficulties for salaries and routine tasks.  “All contractors have refused to work, and in the coming days, there may be a significant shortage of water.  "There might be contaminated water, and sewer overflow in many areas,” said Atishi, who is also the Water Minister.  “This is an emergency like situation and I urge L-G V.K. Saxena to intervene in the matter,” she added.

New Delhi: Winter vacation in city schools has been extended till January 12 for primary class students in view of cold wave conditions, Delhi Education Minister Atishi said on Sunday.
Schools were earlier slated to resume on Monday after the winter break.  "Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 5 days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5," Atishi said on X.

New Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has issued a notice to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in response to the Aam Aadmi Partys accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to entice AAP MLAs. Sources indicate that Kejriwal is expected to provide a response within three days.  Over the weekend a team of officials from the Delhi Police Crime Branch visited Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwals residence in Delhi to deliver the notice. This action was taken following claims made by the Aam Aadmi Party that the BJP is involved in a campaign known as "Operation Lotus 2.0" aimed at destabilizing the elected government in Delhi.  On Friday police officials visited both Kejriwals residence. That of AAP minister Atishi to issue notices and request evidence regarding these allegations. However it appears that neither of these AAP leaders was present at their residences during these visits.  Atishi, a leader within AAP has accused the BJP of employing unethical tactics with intentions to undermine the democratically elected government in Delhi. She claims that several AAP MLAs have been approached by BJP with offers of bribes and threats to sway their loyalty.  "Operation Lotus 2.0" is how Atishi refers to this alleged strategy, by BJP. She alleges that the BJP is attempting to manipulate 21 AAP MLAs in order to overthrow the Delhi government enticing them with amounts of money in exchange for defection.  In response to these allegations Atishi disclosed that the AAP possesses a recording of a conversation related to "Operation Lotus 2.0 " suggesting that it may be made public if deemed necessary.  However the BJP has strongly denied any involvement in Operation Lotus 2.0. Kapil Mishra, a party leader dismissed Kejriwals statements as falsehoods. Emphasized the lack of specific details provided.  "Arvind Kejriwal is lying again just like he has done on seven previous occasions. He has never been able to provide any information about alleged contacts, phone numbers used or meeting locations. His repeated avoidance of ED summons indicates his inability to answer their questions " commented BJP leader Kapil Mishra.  It's worth mentioning that AAP achieved a victory in the Delhi Assembly elections by securing 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP only managed to win 8 seats. Other parties such as Congress were unable to secure any seats, in the elections.
