New Delhi:&nbsp;The May chapter of Amarrass Nights, a platform to promote and nurture folk artistes, will be held on Saturday at the Sunder Nursery here. The event is organised by Gurgaon-based label Amarrass Records and Amarrass Society for Performing Arts at iconic locations across Delhi since 2009. According to the organisers, the musical evening promises to be an exhilarating night of ecstatic bhajans ballads and beatboxing. The performing artists at the upcoming event are bhajan maestro Bagga Khan and the Barmer Boys, the global ambassadors of contemporary Indian folk music. Khan, a renowned Manganiyar bhajan singer from Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district, is a master of the tambura and sings bhajans and dohas by Kabir, Meerabai, and Tulsidas.Barmer Boys is a Sufi-Gypsy beatbox trio, comprising Manga, Rais Khan, and Razak Khan. Dineshpur (The Hawk): Before the conclusion of Durga Puja Festival, a religious presentation based on Bengali folk culture art 'Dwarkaye Elaine Shri Krishna', was staged on the Dashami night Durga Puja Jatra stage.
&nbsp;On the Durga Puja stage under the banner of Bangiya Sanskriti Sudha Samiti on Wednesday night, a Bengali religious Jatra song directed by Manoranjan Bachhad and written by West Bengal's famous writer Prasad Krishna Bhattacharya was presented 'Dwarkaye Ellen Sri Krishna'. Vijay Bachad conducted the play. During this, hundreds of spectators gathered from the Bengali-dominated area to see the play. Sangeet Thakur Chandra, Vivek Gayaki Mein Babu Wala, along with Paritosh Gaine, Vidhana Sana, Abhimanyu Kumar, Nitai Das, Anant Haldar in the lead roles played the lead roles. Shimulika, Pooja and Arpita stunned the audience with their beautiful performances in the female roles. The patron of the committee, Himanshu Sarkar and chairman Ravi Sarkar told that the play was staged to save the Bengali culture and to upgrade the Jatra anthem. On this occasion, Panchayat President Seema Sarkar, Pooja Committee President Mrityunjay Sarkar, Dipankar, Himanshu Mandal, Kalipad Vishwas, Nityanand Mandal, Sunila Mistry, Saroj Mandal, Dr. Narayan Haldar, Rohit Mandal, Vikas Sarkar, Satya Prakash Singh, Inderjit Mandal and hundreds of others.

Dehradun: Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, several Uttarakhand artistes dressed in traditional attire paraded the state tableau on the theme of "Manaskhand" on the premises of National Theatre Camp, New Delhi on Sunday.
During a press briefing, held by the Ministry of Defence here, the artists of Uttarakhand state presented an attractive cultural program in the traditional costumes of Uttarakhand which was appreciated by the gathering.
Along with this, artists from representatives of the other 16 states and ministries also presented tableaus of their respective states in traditional costumes. Tableaus of 17 states have been included in the Republic Day celebrations this year.
Uttarakhand state's tableau will be paraded on the 'Kartavya Path' and will be seen in the fourth place on the Republic Day celebrations.
Deer, Barasingha (Reindeer), Ghural (similar to deer found in the Himalayas), Peacocks and various birds found in Uttarakhand will be adored in the front and middle part of the tableau, while the famous Jageshwar temple group and deodar trees will be placed at the rear of the tableau. Apart from this, Uttarakhand's famous folk art 'Aipan' has also been included in the tableau model. Choliya dance troupe has been included to display the folk culture of Uttarakhand along with the tableau. The theme song of 'Jhanki' is based on the folk culture of Uttarakhand.
Works are going on at a full pace on the Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission scheme for mythological temples of Kumaon on the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Manaskhand temple is being built on the lines of the holy shrines of Shri Kedarnath and Shri Badrinath. —ANI

Kochi: Artworks of two female artists is the centre of attraction at the fifth edition of the ongoing Kochi Biennale.
A distinctive video installation by noted Finland artist Martta Tuomaala is a harsh critique of existing socio-political scenarios with wide-ranging themes like misuse of power, administrative bias, unemployment, insecurity among workers, gender bias, moral policing, capitalism, rising inequality, and protest. A black comedy, the video 'FinnCycling-Soumi-Perkele!' has been written, directed, and anchored by Martta. Though it mainly manifests the darker regions of Finland, viewers could make out a much broader perspective and connect with similar situations elsewhere.
Martta explains the theme of the video through the expert use of indoor cycling. Martta appears in the video, continuously pedalling her cycle. Despite sweating profusely, she couldn't gain an inch. This image is used to raise harsh criticisms and hurl arrows of black comedy reflecting the intolerable conditions prevailing in the socio-political field.
The second one is about a young Malayali artist Mithra Kamalam reflects and recreates the hard struggles endured by women who are forced to stand within the boundaries imposed upon them in the real world, through her awe-inspiring creation at the Biennale. The artwork, belonging to the series 'Corrective Measures' and put together using paintings and sculptural installations, stand apart with its uniqueness in layout as well. The unique inferences drawn by Mithra Kamalam that gets passed on to the viewer are thought-provoking. The display at the Biennale by Mithra Kamalam is based on the painting on the subject of 'Sati' by Dutch illustrator Jan Huygen van Linschoten from the 16th century. "To bring out the ideas churned inside, definitive themes, relevant quotes, and documents from history are sometimes assimilated. The influence of tradition, explanatory language, and miniature painting is my style. Many creations contain elements from my own life. Historical quotes and documents that match the narrative have been embodied," explained Mitra Kamalam. —IANS

Chennai: A case has been registered against actor Mansoor Ali Khan for his comments against actress Trisha Krishnan, Tamil Nadu police has said.
Based on a complaint from the National Commission for Women, an FIR has been registered against Khan on November 21 by Thousand Light All Women Police Station here.  IPC sections 354 (A) (sexual harassment--sexually coloured remarks) and 509 IPC (insult to the modesty of a woman) have been slapped against him and a probe is on.
A video clip of the actor's indecent comments, intended to insult the modesty of women went viral on social media, police added.  On X, the National Commission for Women had said: 'The National Commission for Women is deeply concerned about the derogatory remarks made by actor Mansoor Ali Khan towards actress Trisha Krishna. We're taking suo motu in this matter directing the DGP to invoke IPC Section 509 B and other relevant laws. Such remarks normalize violence against women and must be condemned.' On November 19, 2023, actors' association, (The South Indian Artistes' Association-SIAA, also known as Nadigar Sangam), strongly condemned actor Mansoor Ali Khan for his sexist comments against actress Trisha Krishnan and demanded that he make a public apology.  Khan, however, has made it clear that he would not apologise.
