New Delhi: In a major fillip to India's dream to become a global manufacturing hub, Apple on Monday confirmed it has started manufacturing its top-selling iPhone 13 smartphone in India. Apple first started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017, with iPhone SE. "We are excited to begin making iPhone 13 -- with its beautiful design, advanced camera systems for stunning photos and videos, and the incredible performance of the A15 Bionic chip -- right here in India for our local customers," Apple said in a statement shared with IANS. The tech giant manufactures some of its most advanced iPhones in the country, including iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and now iPhone 13 at the Foxconn facility while iPhone SE and iPhone 12 are being assembled at the Wistron factory in the country. According to industry experts, the new Apple iPhone 13 series has benefitted from the strong consumer appetite and spend to upgrade to premium smartphones. In the first quarter this year, CyberMedia Research (CMR) estimates point to Apple iPhone shipments potentially growingA more than 20 per cent (on-year), with the iPhone 13 series contributing close to 17 per cent of the total iPhone shipments. "The Apple iPhone shipments will potentially touch the 7 million mark in CY2022, translating into a historic 5.5 per cent market share," Prabhu Ram, Head-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR, told IANS. iPhone 13 was available to customers in India simultaneously with the US, among other markets which was a first for the country. The device features an advanced 5G experience, brings super-fast performance and power efficiency with A15 Bionic, longer battery life, and a beautiful flat-edge design with incredible durability with the Ceramic Shield front cover, tougher than any smartphone glass. iPhone uses 100 per cent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, 100 per cent recycled tin in the solder of the main logic board and, for the first time, in the solder of the battery management unit. Apple started its India journey more than 20 years ago. The tech giant launched its India online store in September 2020 and will soon open its own retail store in the country. "With growing domestic Apple iPhone production, aggressive retail forays, and marketing initiatives, we anticipate Apple's growth story in India to remain resilient despite potential headwinds," Ram told IANS.

San Francisco: Tech giant Microsoft has released a new beta version of its Office app for iPad with support for the Apple Pencil's handwriting-to-text feature Scribble.
The feature allows you to insert and edit the text in a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or Excel spreadsheet using the Apple Pencil, with handwriting automatically converted into typed text, reports AppleInsider.
After enabling the Scribble feature in Settings and then Apple Pencil, the feature can be used by tapping the Scribble Pen button under the Draw tab in version 2.64 of the Office app.
The feature can be tested now by members of the Office Insider programme via TestFlight, and the update will likely be released on the App Store for all users in the coming weeks.
Scribble was added in iPadOS 14 for any iPad that supports the original or second-generation Apple Pencil, including any iPad Pro, the third-generation iPad Air and newer, the fifth-generation iPad mini and newer, and the sixth-generation iPad and newer.
Microsoft's unified Office app with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel gained iPad compatibility in February 2021 and is also available for the iPhone.&nbsp;

San Francisco: Tech giant Apple is likely to launch a new entry-level iPad with a larger screen along with an iPad Pro refresh, upgrading the chip from M1 to the M2.
A leaker claimed that the 10th-generation iPad and the iPad Pro will see some changes during the period, reports AppleInsider.
In a Naver post by a leaker account, a source from China claimed that an October event could occur and play host to iPad changes.
While it may not necessarily be an October event, the leaker said it would be at an additional event held after the launch of the iPhone 14.
The new 10th-generation iPad is claimed in the leak to have a thinner new design with a more square shape and a flat bezel, unifying the design aesthetic across the entire iPad range.
It is also said to have a more prominent display than the existing 10.2-inch screen, but without mentioning the exact size.
The model will also allegedly sport an A14 Bionic chip, support 5G, gain a protruding rear camera bump, and lose the 3.5mm headphone jack.
At the same time as updating the entry-level iPad, Apple will also reportedly upgrade the iPad Pro. However, the leaker merely says the chip will be updated from M1 to M2 in the premium tablet line.&nbsp;

San Francisco: Tech giant Apple’s 2022 MacBook Pros may pack new M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets made with TSMC’s latest 3nm manufacturing process, media reports say.&nbsp;
According to the Commercial Times, TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor contract manufacturer, has been steadily building out its 3nm production processes and Apple could be the first customer to get its hands on those chips.&nbsp;
The report notes that Apple will use 3nm wafers for the first time in the second half of 2022, likely for its M2 Pro chipsets, citing media reports, AppleInsider reported.
Future releases built on the 3nm process could include the iPhone-specific A17 chipset, as well as a future third-generation of the M series.
Commercial Times also reported that TSMC will begin mass production of its 3nm wafers in September.
The report added that the initial yield will be higher than when TSMC switched to 5nm processes.
Compared to previous chipmaking processes, semiconductors made using the 3nm process could bring increased power efficiency and performance to Apple’s devices.
Prior reports indicate that Apple will use the M2 Pro chip — and possibly an M2 Max — in its 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini models later in 2022 or early 2023.&nbsp;

San Francisco: An unopened first-generation 2007 iPhone in a sealed box has been sold for $35,000 (nearly Rs 28 lakh) in an auction in the US.
On January 9, 2007, then Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone -- a touchscreen mobile phone with an iPod, camera and Web-browsing capabilities, among other features -- at the Macworld convention in San Francisco.&nbsp;
The device had a touchscreen, a 2MP camera, visual voicemail and a web browser. The iPhone was released in the US in June 2007 at the price of $499 for the 4GB model and $599 for the 8GB model, both requiring a two-year contract.&nbsp;
Now, the fully-packed original iPhone (8GB) has been sold for $35,414 at an auction, reports ZDNet.
The auction house, RR Auction, said that the iPhone box features a life-size image of the iPhone with 12 icons on the screen.
The device was up for auction as part of RR Auction's curated "Apple, Jobs, and Computer Hardware" auction, which featured more than 70 items up for bid, and closed on August 18.&nbsp;
The auction also featured an Apple-1 circuit board, hand-soldered by Apple co-founder Steve "Woz" Wozniak, that was sold for $677,196.
Additionally, an unopened first-generation original Apple iPod (5GB) sold for $25,000, the report noted.
Apple is now set to launch the iPhone 14 series along with other devices and products on September 7.&nbsp;

Shimla (The Hawk): The first consignment of natural farming produce of Himachal’s first 100 percent Natural Farmers Producers Company(FPC) was flagged off to buyers in Delhi and for value addition at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni on Thursday evening.&nbsp;
The consignment of two vehicles carrying apples of Chopal Naturals FPC was flagged off by Shri Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh. Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, Vice-Chancellor, UHF Nauni, and Shri Naresh Thakur, State Project Director, Prakritik Krishi Khushal Kisan Yojna (PK3Y) were also present along with the member of the FPC. With this consignment, 225 boxes were shipped to buyers in Delhi while 150 crates were for value addition to UHF Nauni, the FPC has taken a step towards the collective marketing of their natural produce.
During an interactive session with the farmers, Secretary Agriculture said that the registration of FPCs of farmers doing natural farming is a step towards achieving mutually beneficial producer-consumer linkage. However, the farmers have a tedious task ahead now to run the FPCs with a professional approach. He added that the government can support them initially, but ultimately, the farmers will have to reduce their dependence on the government and improve their capacity to make successful business models. He said that an MoU has been signed with NABARD recently, which provides for some support to FPCs during the initial years.
Shri Naresh Thakur congratulated the farmers for coming together on one platform for marketing of natural produce and said the target is to have 10 such FPCs. He assured the FPCs that the State Project Implementing Unit (SPIU) will support them with logistics and technical know-how, to begin with. He said it was a step towards the transformation of farmers into businessmen. He said if the farmers can provide private land the collection centers for natural produce could be worked out.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel said that the university was open to providing all technical assistance to the farmers-led producer organizations. He said that the university’s Department of Food Science and Technology is helping to process the low-grade apples brought by Chopal Naturals FPC into juices and other value-added products. Professor Chandel said that the university will work towards developing a range of products from apples and other fruits for the FPC using the technologies already developed by the university. He also assured the newly established FPC of Solan and Pachhad of all the technical guidance to the farmers to make their venture successful.&nbsp;
Earlier, Dr. Devina Vaidya, HOD Department of Food Science and Technology talked about the various technologies which could be utilized to provide a varied product range to the FPC. Vinod Mehta, Chairman of Chopal Naturals FPC said that the company will target getting more farmers engaged in natural farming as members from different regions, and move into different fruits and vegetables so that the buyers could be provided with natural produce throughout the year. The processed apple juice was also unveiled on the occasion. The FPC is targeting to release jams and juices in the market in September.&nbsp;&nbsp;

These features, available in nearly 200 countries and territories, provide users with high-quality data gathered throughout the day and night, said the company.
As pandemic show us the importance of being fit and healthy, Apple is creating devices and services packed with “science-based technology” that equips people with even more information and acts as an intelligent guardian for their health, “so they are no longer passengers on their own health journey”, according to Jeff Williams, Chief Operating Officer at Apple.
The company feels drawn to this work not only because of the opportunity to help advance human health but “because we are driven by our principles to devote talent, resources, and expertise to where we can do the most good.”
“We believe passionately that technology can play a role in improving health outcomes and encouraging people to live a healthier day,” he said in a recent Apple Health report.
The Cupertino-based company said that its application programming interfaces (APIs) are enabling third-party developers to create new solutions that promote healthy lifestyles and innovation in health.
“There are now tens of thousands of apps on the App Store that use our HealthKit API, so they can incorporate data users choose to share from the Health app to offer innovative health and fitness experiences, with rigorous privacy and data security protocols,” according to the report.
With users’ permission, these apps can also contribute data back to the Health app.
Apple recently collaborated with Stanford University in the US to build the Apple Heart Study, which was a first of its kind in the medical community and the largest virtual cardiac clinical study during its time.
“It paved the way for Apple’s work with some of the world’s leading institutions to build three first-of-their-kind research studies to advance the science across women’s health, hearing health, heart health, and more,” said the report.
Health institutions are using Apple devices, APIs, and frameworks to strengthen the relationship between physicians and patients with meaningful data, and enable care from anywhere.
According to the report, health organisations and insurance companies around the world have collaborated with Apple to integrate Apple Watch in their wellness programmes to promote healthier behaviours and improve individual health at a large scale.
“Our work primarily falls into two categories: personal health and fitness features on Apple Watch and iPhone, and the work we are doing with the medical community to support research and care,” said Williams.&nbsp;

San Francisco: After several iPhone 14 Pro users complained that it is producing blurry and shaking footage, tech giant Apple has confirmed that a fix is set to arrive next week for this issue. The tech giant is aware of a bug that is causing the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max cameras to shake and vibrate, according to an Apple spokesperson that spoke to MacRumors. Recently, several users discovered that the camera module was shaking when in use in apps, including Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. The issue was causing video recorded using the camera within the apps to be unpublishable, due to the constant erratic movement. Posts on social media, including Reddit claim there to be a lot of jitters, believed to be a shaking of the optical image stabilisation (OIS) system. In the case of the iPhone 14 Pro, the 48MP Main camera has Apple's second-generation Sensor-Shift OIS, which physically moves the sensor, while the other uses an older and more conventional OIS system. Some users claimed that they could see and hear the shaking and mechanical movement when they used the third-party app's camera features.&nbsp;

San Francisco: The Apple Watch Ultra has been tested by a YouTuber who dropped it, subjected it to a jar of nails, and repeatedly smashed it with a hammer to see how durable the sapphire crystal protecting the display is.
According to MacRumors, TechRax, a channel popular for testing the durability of products, first tested the Apple Watch Ultra by dropping it from around four feet high.&nbsp;
The Apple Watch Ultra was left mostly unscuffed, aside from minor dents along the titanium casing. Next, the Apple Watch Ultra was mixed around in a jar of nails and was once again left with no visible marks.
TechRax also tested the durability of the Apple Watch Ultra's sapphire crystal display cover by repeatedly hitting it with a hammer.
In the test, the watch withstood repeated hits with the hammer until it finally cracked, and only after the table took some damage first.
While the Apple Watch Ultra's display did not initially take damage, the watch did fail to turn on after repeated hits.
The failure to power on could indicate that while the sapphire may not have broken at first, some internal components may have suffered damage.
Apple claims the Apple Watch Ultra is its most rugged, durable, and extreme Apple Watch yet, aiming to compete directly with Garmin.&nbsp;

The users claim that there is a lack of compatibility between wireless chargers and the iPhone 14 Pro with the camera bump preventing some devices from charging the smartphone.
The large camera bump of the iPhone 14 Pro is a distinguishing external feature from its predecessors, the report said.
The cameras come with greater power but users have reported uncontrollable shaking while using third-party apps. The bumpy camera setup could also be causing compatibility issues with wireless chargers, it added.

New Delhi: Microsoft is ending support for SwiftKey on iOS devices and removing it from Apple Store from October 5, after facing several user complaints.
The keyboard app, if already downloaded, will still be available on iPhones unless users don't decide to uninstall it.
"We are ending support for Microsoft SwiftKey iOS. Thank you for being a user of our product. The app will be delisted from the App Store on October 5, 2022," Microsoft said in an update.
For those customers who have SwiftKey installed on iOS, it will continue to work until it is manually uninstalled or a user gets a new device, the company added.
The users complained that Microsoft hasn't updated the SwiftKey app on iOS in over a year.
SwiftKey has been downloaded more than 500 million times on Android.
The app will continue to be available and supported for Android users.
In May, SwiftKey received its last update for Android that made it easier to delete text and it has also added the option to disable automatic spaces after punctuation.
Microsoft acquired SwiftKey platform, which was already one of the most popular keyboard apps on iOS and Android, for reportedly $250 million in 2016.
SwiftKey was launched on Android in 2010 and arrived on iOS in 2014.
The SwiftKey for iOS predictive keyboard will be delisted from the Apple App Store as of October 5.&nbsp;

However, since October 1, Apple SIM can't be used for that task at all, the report said. An update to an Apple support page explained that from October 1, "Apple SIM technology will no longer be available for activating new cellular data plans on iPad". Users are told to contact their carrier for details on activating a new plan with their device.&nbsp;
Apple initially included the Apple SIM in 2014, originally as a physical nano-SIM that could be placed in the SIM tray. Later, an Apple SIM was embedded into the hardware itself, along with a SIM card tray.&nbsp;

San Francisco: Tech giant Apple's next-generation iPhone 14 Pro models are still seeing high demand as compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, says a new report.
According to a product availability tracker claims, the demand for the iPhone 14 appears to be lower than it was for the iPhone 13, but there are some positive signs for the iPhone 14 Plus, reports AppleInsider.
In the fourth week, Sunday's Apple Product Availability Tracker by analysts at JP Morgan saw a similar situation to one week prior, with strong demand for the Pro models, weak for the non-Pro, the report said.
However, the silver lining for the iPhone 14 is the iPhone 14 Plus.
Overall, the at-home delivery times for the iPhone 14, Pro, and Pro Max averaged across all regions at 2 days, 33 days, and 40 days respectively.
In the US, the iPhone 14 is stable at 4 days, with the Plus seemingly tracking to its first available date. These are "less favorable" relative to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini at this stage, at 14 and 20 days respectively.
The Pro and Pro Max are seeing a modest increase in their lead times, to 32 days and 39 days, as per the report.&nbsp;

New Delhi (The Hawk): ET Telecom's most recent report indicates that iPhone customers in India will have to wait two months for a software update that enables 5G access. On October 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced 5G services in India during the Indian Mobile Congress. However, many 5G devices from leading manufacturers such as Samsung, Google, and Apple do not currently support 5G connectivity and are awaiting a software upgrade that will enable the next generation of connectivity.
Apple is now assessing the performance and quality of 5G networks in India, according to the ET Telecom report, thus iPhone customers will not receive a software update to support 5G networks until December 2022. The iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone SE 2022 are being tested on the Airtel 5G and Jio 5G networks, as they are the only two 5G networks to have launched in four to eight cities.
"We are collaborating with our carrier partners in India to deliver the optimal iPhone experience as soon as network validation and quality and performance tests are complete. 5G will be enabled with a software update and will begin rolling out to iPhone customers in December, Apple told ET Telecom in a statement.
Apple employs tight quality controls to guarantee that the iPhone experience is consistent across all of its models, and it is taking the same approach with 5G. The business is evaluating iPhones that enable 5G (iPhone 12 and later) for network speeds, its influence on battery life, and other use cases, and will release them only when it is pleased with the different inspections.

San Francisco: In a bid to offer more banking services to its users, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has partnered with Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) to launch a new savings account feature for its Apple Card credit cardholders.
Apple Card users will be able to grow their rewards in Apple Wallet by automatically depositing their Daily Cash into a new high-yield savings account from Goldman Sachs.
In the coming months, Apple Card users will be able to open the new high-yield Savings account and have their Daily Cash automatically deposited into it — with no fees, no minimum deposits, and no minimum balance requirements, said the tech giant.
"Savings enables Apple Card users to grow their Daily Cash rewards over time, while also saving for the future," said Jennifer Bailey, Apple's vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet," Bailey said in a statement late on Thursday.
Apple Card users will be able to easily set up and manage Savings directly in their Apple Card in Wallet.
Once users set up their savings account, all future Daily Cash received will be automatically deposited into it, or they can choose to continue to have it added to an Apple Cash card in Wallet.
Users can change their Daily Cash destination at any time, said the company.
Apple Card users get 3 per cent Daily Cash on Apple Card purchases made using Apple Pay with Apple and select merchants.&nbsp;

San Francisco (The Hawk): Apple might release a scaled-down version of macOS just for the iPad Pro M2. According to AppleInsider, the device may still only be able to run iPad-optimized apps and not macOS ones.
The macOS UI is being tested with a 25% larger version in order to make it touch-friendly. Mendocino, the device's codename, is expected to debut in 2023 alongside macOS 14.
It's unknown why Apple decided to make this half-step toward a macOS interface for the iPad, according to the article.
