New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday evening spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthan to take stock of the situation after widespread clashes were reported from Delhi's Jahangirpuri area following alleged stone pelting on a Shobha Yatra, leaving several persons injured, including cops. Sources said the Delhi Police chief has also briefed the officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the present situation in the violence-hit area. A Fire Department official told IANS that received several calls in the evening regarding arson in the area. "We can't respond to such request, but at 6.43 p.m. we got a call about a fire incident at a shop in the Jahangirpuri area after which two fire tenders were immediately pressed into service," the official said. The official further informed that two fire engines are still in the area as a precautionary measure. The injured have been shifted to the Babu Jagjeevan Ram hospital. —IANS

Abdulla-kutty claimed that due to the increasing influence of Hindi cinema, social media, and new technology, the majority of the new generation in Tamil Nadu and Kerala are speaking better Hindi."Even in my family, the younger generation is speaking better Hindi than me. It is the new trend and I personally think it is the correct time. The Howrah Bridge is under attack from gutkha-chewers."The sale of gutkha or paan masala (both tobacco products) is completely banned in West Bengal as per a notification by West Bengal's health department.The notification dated October 26, 2021, issued under the signature of Tapan K Rudra, commissioner of food safety, West Bengal, read, "As per regulation 2.3.4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations 2011 made by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, in the exercise of powers conferred by clause (i) of sub-section (2) of section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (Central Act 34 of 2006) read with section 26 thereof, prohibits sale of articles of food in which tobacco and/or nicotine are used as ingredients, as they may be injurious to health."The IAS officer also tagged actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who is under pressure to expand or rejig his cabinet at the earliest, ahead of the assembly polls next year, on Friday said he would try to discuss in this regard with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is scheduled to visit Bengaluru on May 3.The chief minister who is travelling to Delhi on Friday night on an official visit said he will not be meeting the party high command during the tour. "I have taken note of the sentiments made by them (MLAs) and have conveyed them to the high command, who said a decision will be taken at the appropriate time. Most probably Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Bengaluru on May 3, I will use the opportunity then (to discuss about the cabinet)," he said in response to a question on the demand from legislators to expand the cabinet ahead of polls. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Bommai said he is leaving for Delhi on Friday night to attend a conference of chief ministers and Chief Justices of all states, and will be attending a dinner hosted by prime minister in the evening, and will be traveling back to Bengaluru early Sunday, so will not be meeting any central ministers or the party president during the visit. Shah is scheduled to visit Bengaluru on May 3 to take part in the valedictory function of 'Khelo India' University Games in Bengaluru. With polls scheduled next year, there is pressure mounting on the CM to expand or rejig his cabinet soon, after the recent Assembly elections in five states.With the cabinet exercise taking time, voices of discontent seem to be brewing within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, as party MLA M P Renukacharya on Wednesday had openly expressed displeasure about the delay and working of few ministers. The MLA, who is also the chief minister's political secretary, said several party legislators are of a similar opinion and they feel that if new faces are inducted into the cabinet, they would work aggressively and bring a good name to the BJP and the government ahead of the 2023 assembly polls.Bommai has been maintaining that he is awaiting for a direction from BJP central leadership to carry out the cabinet exercise.There are currently five positions vacant in the state cabinet, that has 29 ministers including the chief minister, against the sanctioned strength of 34.Some legislators have even been advocating a Gujarat-like overhaul of the Karnataka Cabinet soon, to make way for new faces, ahead of the assembly elections. Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit West Bengal for three days and is expected to boost the BJP functionaries in the state in the backdrop of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.Shah will arrive in Kolkata on the night of May 4. On May 5, he will first go to Hingalganj in the North 24 Parganas district and attend a function of the Border Security Force (BSF).From there he will head to Siliguri in North Bengal's Darjeeling district and address a public rally at Railway Institute Ground. There is also a possibility of the Home Minister having a meeting with the representatives of different political and non-political organisa-tions based out of Darjeeling on May 5.On May 6, he will go to the adjacent Cooch Behar district of North Bengal and attend a government programme in Tinbigha. He will return to Kolkata on May 6 afternoon and is expected to hold meetings with the top BJP leaders from the state and then fly back to Delhi the same day. This will be Shah's first visit to the state after the party's defeat in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly polls. Since then, the party's performance in by-elections and municipal polls has been pathetic.The party even lost the by-poll for the Asansol Lok Sabha seat, which it had won in 2019 by a margin of around two lakh votes. In many cases, Left Front candidates secured the second position in vote share percentage leaving the BJP in the third position. "It is crucial to retain all the 18 Lok Sabha seats that we won in 2019 in the coming 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well. Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to West Bengal, will visit the home of a BJP worker who died in "mysterious" circumstances at Kashipur area of north Kolkata on Friday. The body of Arjun Chowrasia, a BJP Yuva Morcha leader of the Kashipur area, was found hanging inside an abandoned building in Ghosh Bagan area, police said. The BJP has alleged that he was murdered by the ruling TMC, which has denied the charge. A senior state BJP leader said Shah, who is on a two-day visit to the state, will visit Chowrasia's residence this afternoon. "He was an efficient party worker. We found him dead this morning. He was to be part of a bike rally that was to be taken out from Kolkata airport to welcome Amit Shah Ji," state BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said. Another senior BJP leader said Shah was upset after hearing the news. "Shah Ji told us to cancel his grand welcome at the NSC Bose airport and said he will visit the spot and Chowrasia's residence," he said. He will arrive in the city from north Bengal on the second leg of his two-day visit. Refuting the BJP charge, TMC MP Santanu Sen said, "The allegations against us are baseless. Let the police investigate the matter". The police said an investigation has started into the incident. Chowrasia's family has demanded a CBI inquiry into his death, while BJP activists staged a protest as the police tried to take away his body from the spot. A huge police contingent was rushed to the spot to control the situation. Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar said, "It is shameful that a BJP worker was mercilessly killed and that when the union home minister is in the state. Law and order have broken down completely in the state". TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh wondered whether it was a case of suicide or killing due to infighting in the saffron camp to create an issue during Shah's visit. "It is a well-crafted screenplay by the saffron camp," he said. Shah had on Thursday slammed the TMC government over the killings of BJP workers in the state.—PTI

New Delhi (The Hawk): As a step towards Government of India’s efforts to promote renewable energy thereby moving towards a carbon neutral economy, under the guidance of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated a proposal to install Solar Energy Panels in the campuses of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and National Security Guard (NSG). Accordingly, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on May 6th, between Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) in New Delhi, in the presence of Union Home Secretary and Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. This Umbrella MoU envisages collaboration between the two parties for jointly undertaking installation of Solar Rooftop PV Power Plants.&nbsp;On the basis of available data, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has estimated the total solar power potential of 71.68 Megawatts in the campuses of CAPFs &amp; NSG. SECI having expertise in the field of solar power projects, will either directly or through an agency or agencies selected through a competitive bidding process, support the MHA in implementing rooftop solar PV power plants.

Delhi: A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid a visit to his residence and had dinner with his family, which grabbed attention, Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly Saturday spoke of his close relation with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is known to be a strident critic of the Bharatiya Janata Party.Ganguly, former Indian cricket team captain, also showered praise on minister and Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim describing him as a person who can be approached by anyone at any time of the day."Our honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a person very close to me. I had approached her to help up this institute," he said at the inauguration programme of a private hospital in Kolkata.The former southpaw said, "I am also very close to Firhad Hakim. Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday while praising the BJP-led Assam government for strongly tackling illegal migration, alleged that the West Bengal government was not cooperating with the Centre in dealing with the problem.Addressing a public rally to mark the first anniversary of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led NDA government in Assam, Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to end the problem of infiltration but claimed 'Bengal is not cooperating with the centre'.'On the other hand, Assam is standing rock-solid behind the centre and is fighting the problem strongly with result evident in the remarkable decrease in illegal infiltration', Shah said.The home minister said that he had visited the Indo-Bangladesh border at Mankachar in Assam on Monday and 'the data reveals that during the last six years, infiltration has declined considerably and we hope to completely end it soon'.Referring to the earlier rampant cattle smuggling to Bangladesh through Assam, Shah said that Sarma's government has ensured that all doors in the state has been closed for cattle smugglers.Allegations of illegal migration form an important part of the political narrative in this border state, where the issue led to a prolonged agitation in the 1980s leading to the Assam accord which promised to identify `foreigners' and de-franchise them.Since then, the issue has been taken up by the NDA which has promised to bring a National Register for Citizens which would exclude illegal migrants.—PTI

Panaji: Union Home Minister Amit Shah was given a mineral water bottle worth Rs 850 during his trip to Goa and it was brought from a town located around 10 km away from Panaji, state Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik said on Tuesday.Naik mentioned about the expensive buy while making a strong pitch for rainwater harvesting in Goa and explaining how water will become a scarce and precious resource in the future."When Amit Shah was in Goa (for campaigning for February Assembly polls), he asked for a Himalaya (brand) water bottle. It was then brought from Mapusa (located around 10km from Panaji)," Naik said, addressing an event in South Goa.The mineral water which was purchased for Shah costs Rs 850 per bottle, he said."Even the rate of mineral water bottles available in star hotels hovers in the range of Rs 150-Rs 160. This is how expensive water has become," Naik added.Naik, a former Goa chief minister, in the past has pushed for constructing dams across rivers to accumulate water, which he said, can be sold to Gulf countries in exchange for fuel."The government can build dams across the state, wherever there are mountains, and store water," he said at the event, warning people will fight for water in the future due to shortages.—PTI

All the data from the birth of infants to the death of adults will continue to be collected in digital form and the government will automatically send the information to the eligible citizens for various public welfare schemes, which will remove all the discrepancies. For this, the central government is going to amend the Birth-Death Registration Act. The draft of the amended law is in its final stages. It is estimated that the new law may come into force in the country before the start of the census in 2022. To make e-Census more scientific, modern technologies will be added to it.&nbsp;After the amendment of the law, the account of birth and death of citizens will reach the central government. Every birth and death will be registered by 2024. The birth and death register will also be linked to the census. This means that the census will be updated automatically after every birth and death in the country. This step of the government will actually reinforce the concept of 'One Nation One Data'. At present, this data reaches the center after a long wait through the states. At present, many cards are being used like Aadhar, Driving License, Voter ID, Passport and Ration Card, which people get made, but often these cards are not closed after their death. Because of this, unnecessary data keeps getting collected and there is a risk of misuse of these documents, while the benefits of facilities are not accessible to the eligible persons. After the amendment of the law, the wait of ten years for the census will end. The complete picture of the country's population will continue to reach the center every month, which will help in making new schemes.&nbsp;The next census will be the e-Census and based on this, the development plan of the country for the next 25 years will be prepared. After birth, the details will be added to the census register and after s/he turns 18, the name will be included in the voter list and after death, the name will be deleted. This will make it easier to change the name and address. Earlier this year, the central government had talked about some amendments in the rules to allow online self-counting in the upcoming census and the National Population Register (NPR). The announcement was made in 2020, but was postponed in view of the pandemic. The Center recently extended the deadline for change of jurisdiction for all states to June 30, 2022. Earlier this deadline was December 31, 2021. New Delhi: &nbsp;Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that while his government is against encroachment, it would not tolerate the bulldozing being done by the BJP-led MCD in the national capital, stating that it would leave a large chunk of people “homeless”.The Chief Minister further said that a majority portion of the national capital is expanded illegally and asked the BJP-led MCD if such a vast area of the city would be demolished under the demolition drive. The MCD, recently, conducted a spate of demolition of the encroachments in various parts of the city that drew protests in some parts of the capital.“Even we’re against encroachment but we oppose the way it’s being done. They (BJP) are planning to demolish all unauthorized colonies, slums and have a list of partial encroachments. This would make about 63 lakh people homeless…bulldozing won’t be tolerated,” Kejriwal said. “Delhi has not been expanded in a planned manner. Over 80 per cent of the city is illegal, encroached…The question arises, would 80 per cent of the city be demolished (by BJP-led MCDs)?” Kejriwal added.Earlier last week, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in connection with the anti-encroachment drive carried out by the Delhi municipal corporation, seeking his intervention in the matter. “BJP has made preparations to run bulldozers on 60 lakh houses in Delhi. Out of these, 60 lakh houses are in unauthorised colonies. BJP will break each of these houses. Apart from this, if someone has extended the balcony, or has constructed some extras in the DDA houses, BJP has a plan to demolish 3 lakh such houses,” he said.—ANI

Gurugram:&nbsp;Two men wanted in a murder case were nabbed nine months after they went into hiding, police said on Tuesday.Accused Amit Singh and Deep Chand alias Tinku, residents of Ujina village in Nuh district, had allegedly killed a youth on August 26 last year after which they were staying low-profile in Haryana's Bilaspur. The Farrukhnagar crime unit arrested them from Bilaspur Chowk on Monday evening. The police took them in remand after producing them before the court on Tuesday, an official said. "On August 26 last year, they killed a young man by beating him with sticks in their village and an FIR was registered against them at Sadar Nuh police station. After the murder, both went into hiding in Bilaspur area. During this time, they started stealing tractor trolleys and water tankers of farmers. They executed about half-a-dozen such thefts one after the other," ACP (crime) Preet Pal Singh Sangwan said.He said the duo was trying to sell the stolen items at Kotputli in Rajasthan. "We are questioning the accused and have informed Nuh police as they wanted the two men in the murder case," the ACP said.—PTI
