Amethi (The Hawk): Two minors and five others were arrested for allegedly shouting 'Sar Tan Se Juda' during a Barawafat procession in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district.
After a video of the incident went viral on social media, a FIR was filed.
The incident occurred during a Barawafat procession at Mohammad Jaisi's shrine in Amethi.
Every year, hundreds of devotees gathered to celebrate the festival with a procession. This year, however, the mood of a certain section of the rally appeared aggressive.
A viral video of this procession showed dozens of young people and children shouting the offensive slogan Sar tan se juda.
When the police became aware of the situation, they opened an investigation and named nine people.
DIG Amarendra Kumar Singh arrived on the scene to investigate the incident.
According to Amethi Superintendent of Police Ilamaran, this video is from the Jais area.

Amethi, UP (The Hawk): The police reported on Wednesday that two sisters allegedly committed suicide by plunging into a well in this city's Mohanganj neighbourhood.
Shiv Kumari, 24, and Chandrakanti, 18, were discovered dead inside the well on Tuesday night, according to Mohanganj SHO Gyanchand Shukla.
Shukla claimed that Shivkumari fled her home and was later discovered inside the well following an argument she had that evening with her father Shiv Darshan Maurya over his missing brother Manchharam.
According to the authorities, Chandrakanti dived into the well after Shiv Kumari to save her sister.
The post-mortem on the bodies has been ordered.

Lucknow: On Monday, Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, signalled that his party would run a candidate in the prestigious Amethi seat in the upcoming election. Before, the Samajwadi Party had given the seat to the Congress.
Yadav, who was in Amethi on Sunday for the wedding of Gayatri Prasad Prajapati's daughter and an influential party leader in Uttar Pradesh, offered the hint in a tweet written in the state's official language, Hindi.
"To observe the suffering of the underprivileged women in Amethi was heartbreaking. Amethi: Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh thrashed a BJP leader's husband inside a police station in Amethi while officials made half-hearted attempts to save the victim. The victim was identified as Deepak Singh, the husband of Rashmi Singh, a BJP municipal election candidate.
The incident took place inside the Gauriganj Kotwali police station in front of dozens of policemen who struggled to keep Rakesh Pratap Singh and his supporters off Deepak Singh.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
According to the SP MLA, Deepak Singh arrived at the police station and verbally abused him while he was sitting on a protest there.
This made him lose his temper, he said.
Rakesh Pratap Singh said he had been on protest because Deepak Singh and his supporters had assaulted some of his supporters, but the police had not taken any action.
"I have telephoned all senior police and district officials but no action has been taken on the developments which led to a flare-up," he told IANS. In the middle of the protest, Deepak Singh arrived at the station and was heard loudly abusing the SP legislator and his supporters.
A senior police officer said the situation suddenly got out of hand and the police had little time to react when the two political opponents came face-to-face.
The issue has now been resolved, and legal action will be taken against both individuals, with cases registered against them, the officer added.

Gandhi was the member of parliament for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency until he was found guilty of criminal defamation and given a two-year sentence by a court in Gujarat. The Gujarat High Court is currently deliberating the Congress leader's request to temporarily halt the execution of his sentence.

Amethi: According to police officials, on Sunday, the acting principal of a government upper primary school in the city of Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on allegations of molesting some girl students.
They said that the accused was sent to jail after girl students filed a FIR against him under section 354A of the Indian Penal Code for sexual harassment and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The press release from the Amethi police department named an accused person as Ram Krishna, a resident of Pratapgarh, living in a rented accommodation in Amethi.

Lucknow: Two people were killed and 16 others sustained injuries after a speeding four-wheeler rear-ended a truck in Amethi on the Varanasi-Lucknow highway. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
“Praying for peace to the departed soul, the Chief Minister has expressed condolences to the bereaved family members,” a release from the chief minister’s office said.
It further said that the CM has directed the district administration to hospitalise the injured immediately. “He (the CM) also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured," the release read. As many as two people died in the mishap that took place near Utelwa in Amethi district on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Soon after the accident, the police arrived at the spot and sent all injured to the Community Health Centre in Jagishpur.&nbsp;

Amethi: A dispute between two brothers in Amethi led to the murder of the husband of the village head, who had come to help the warring parties reach a compromise.  According to reports, the brothers Raju and Tillam were fighting with each other over opening of a new door.  Rizwan, husband of the village head, reached the spot to resolve the matter but was attacked by the brothers.
Rizwan died on the spot while his driver Ramdhani has been admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.  The body has been sent for post mortem.  The police have registered a case and started investigating the matter.  The Inhauna police spokesman said that the matter was under investigation and the guilty would be arrested soon.  The accused is on the run and the police have demolished a portion of his house.

Amethi: A teacher at a government school in Amethi has been booked for thrashing a Class 9 student, leaving the boy with a ruptured eardrum.
In her complaint to the police on Wednesday, the boy’s mother Reena Tiwari said that her son, Anirudh,13, was talking during his English class on Monday at which his teacher got infuriated.
“The teacher, Shiv Lal Jaiswal, started thrashing Anirudh and continued to slap him even after he pleaded that blood was oozing out of his ear. Anirudh was taken to a doctor who found that his eardrum was ruptured,” she said.
It is a condition in which a hole forms in the thin tissue that separates the ear canal from the middle ear.
It can lead to hearing loss and make the middle ear vulnerable to infections.
SHO, Amethi, Arun Kumar Dwivedi said that an FIR had been lodged against the teacher under relevant sections and the statements of the principal, teacher and students would be taken before further action is initiated.

Amethi (UP): On Saturday, the family of a 22-year-old woman protested the hospital where she was treated, claiming that the physicians were to blame for their loved one's untimely death.
The police said they have stationed extra officers near the hospital to keep the peace.

Lucknow: After the declaration of candidates on 51 seats by the ruling BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the political picture of the contest in Uttar Pradesh is becoming clear.
I.N.D.I.A. bloc partner Samajwadi Party (SP) has so far declared tickets on 31 seats, including Varanasi, which it later withdrew due to the seat-sharing arrangement with the Congress.  Amidst party workers' demand of fielding Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Amethi and Raebareli seats, the Congress is yet to come up with its list.  As per the arrangement, the Congress will field candidates on 17 seats while the SP will contest on 63 seats.  Apart from Raebareli, Amethi and Varanasi, the other seats on which the Congress will contest include Kanpur City, Fatehpur Sekri, Basgaon, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Maharajganj, Amroha, Jhansi, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Sitapur, Barabanki and Deoria.  Sonia Gandhi is currently the MP from Raebareli, while Rahul Gandhi lost his Amethi seat to BJP leader Smriti Irani in 2019 polls.
Aiming to retain power at the Centre for the third time in a row, the BJP banked heavily on its sitting MPs and the party is working on a target to win all the 80 seats in the state.  The notable names in the BJP's first list include Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow, Hema Malini from Mathura, Ajay Mishra Teni from Kheri, Smriti Irani from Amethi, Lallu Singh from Faizabad (Ayodhya) and Mahendra Nath Pandey from Chandauli, among others.  The new faces in the BJP list included Saket Mishra from Shrawasti and Kripa Shankar Singh from Jaunpur. Sitting MP from Ambedkar Nagar Ritesh Pandey, who recently resigned from the BSP and joined the BJP, has also been given a ticket.  Saket Mishra, who is a sitting MLC, is the son of Nripendra Mishra, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Construction Committee's chairman and former principal secretary to Prime Minister Modi.  Kripa Shankar had quit the Congress to join the BJP. The candidates for Pilibhit and Sultanpur, which are held by Varun Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi respectively, are yet to be announced.  Prime Minister Modi will be seeking re-election from Varanasi for the third time, winning the earlier two elections in 2014 and 2019 from the same seat with a handsome margin of more than 3.71 lakh and 4.79 lakh votes, respectively.  Rajnath Singh will also be seeking re-election from Lucknow for the third time after winning it in two previous elections in 2014 and 2019 comfortably by a margin of 2.72 lakh and 3.47 votes, respectively.  The BJP has again reposed faith in Ajay Mishra Teni from Kheri. Mishra had been in the thick of storm in connection with October 3, 2021, violence in which his son Ashish Mishra allegedly ran his car over the farmers protesting in Lakhimpur Kheri. Mishra won the Lok Sabha elections from the Kheri constituency in 2014 and 2019.  The BJP has also reposed faith in Smriti Irani for the Amethi seat, regarded as a Gandhi stronghold. Irani had rendered a major blow to the Congress, defeating its then sitting MP Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 elections by a margin of more than 55,000 votes.
From Raebareli, though the BJP has not declared any name yet but speculations are rife that it may field SP MLA Manoj Kumar Pandey, who recently resigned as the party's chief whip in the state assembly and cross voted in favour of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha polls.  The SP has so far released three lists of its candidates and has fielded Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri while Shivpal Yadav has been given a ticket from the Budaun seat.  SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, who is an MLA from the Karhal seat, might also contest from Kannauj or Azamgarh. The party has given a chance to Ikra Hasan, daughter of former MP Tabassum Hasan, from the Kairana seat while Praveen Singh Aron has been given a ticket from the Bareilly seat and Afzal Ansari from the Ghazipur seat.  The SP's first list also included the name of sitting Sambhal MP Shafiqur Rehman Barq, who died recently.  The BSP has so far officially not declared its list of candidates.  In 2019 polls, SP and BSP contested in an alliance in which they won five and 10 seats, respectively. The BJP and allies got 65 seats.

Congress District President Pradeep Singhal, who returned after a meeting in Delhi, said Gandhi will be the party candidate from Amethi and his name would be announced soon.  Gandhi, a former Congress president, represented Amethi in Parliament from 2002 till 2019.  In 2019 general election, he lost to BJP's Smriti Irani. New Delhi: Indicating his keenness to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Robert Vadra, businessman and husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said that the people of Amethi expect him to represent their constituency if he thinks of becoming a member of Parliament. In an interview with ANI, Vadra also targeted Union Minister Smriti Irani, who represents Amethi, saying that people feel they made a mistake by electing her.
Smriti Irani defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Amethi, a Nehru-Gandhi family stronghold, in one of the biggest upsets of the polls. Almost pitching his candidature from Amethi, Robert Vadra, who has indicated his electoral ambitions earlier too, said the Gandhi family has worked hard in Amethi and surrounding areas. "They want a member of the Gandhi family returns, they will ensure the person's victory with a huge margin, they also expect that if I take my first step in politics, and think of becoming an MP, then I should represent Amethi," he said.  However, Vadra also said he wants that party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi should become MP first and he can follow her. "I want Priyanka (Gandhi) to become an MP first and then I feel I can also come...I interact with people and there are MPs from different parties. They (MPs) ask me to come along with their party and ask me the reasons for the delay. They also assure me of their support...so different parties across the country are asking me to come along...I have friendships with a lot of people above the party lines," he said. Vadra said that the decision on Amethi and Rae Bareli will be taken by the Congress leadership. "I'm not saying that I will contest from Amethi or Priyanka will contest from Rae Bareli. The decision will taken by the Congress party," he said.
Vadra said he joined hands with Priyanka Gandhi for the Congress campaign in Amethi in the 1999 Lok Sabha polls. "That's time politics was very different, fear was sought to be created among people. We use to visit sensitive areas at night, put up posters, distributed bags, worked hard with our workers day and night and gave them trust that we are there and they should keep working in their areas and booths. They know how we worked hard and there was brotherhood and love, which is still there," he said.  "The people with whom I worked...outside my office, residence...they send message through social media, they cut cake on my birthday, arrange langar or other service for people because they know I like this. People in the country see that I stay among people, work hard as much as possible for the disabled and blind children and spend all time in charity. I visit on religious tour and they celebrate my birthday and celebrate festivals in my name and distribute among people there (Amethi)," he added. Vadra was asked if he could be a candidate from Amethi. He said the person who represents Amethi should talk about the welfare of the people of the constituency, their well-being, security and should not indulge in politics of discrimination. He said the people of the constituency are very upset with the present MP from the seat. "They feel they made a mistake as I think she does not visit the seat frequently, she does not think of the progress of the constituency, she thinks how to make baseless allegations, raise questions on the Gandhi family and create noise and misuse her position," he said. "Gandhi family has for years worked hard in Amethi, Rae Bareli, Sultanpur, Jagdishpur...there was a lot of progress. When people of Amethi feel that they made a mistake and voted for Smriti and Rahul had from there.....whatever, he had to go to another constituency or whatever..., I feel they want that a member of Gandhi family comes back...," he said.  Congress has not yet named its candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli seats in Uttar Pradesh, where it is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with Samajwadi Party. The Congress election committee in Uttar Pradesh had last month unanimously recommended that members of the Gandhi family should contest from Amethi and Raebareli Lok Sabha constituencies. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been representing Rae Bareli since 2004. She has now been elected to Rajya Sabha.
