Ghaziabad: A police officer and an advocate engaged in a scuffle at a police outpost inside the district court here, days after the lawyer was intercepted by the sub-inspector for checking his car, officials said.The incident happened this afternoon when sub-inspector Saurabh Rathore, posted at Bhojpur police station of the district, arrived at the district court for some work.Advocate Ravi Sharma, whose car was intercepted by Rathore and constable Mohit Singh when he was returning with his friends from a wedding ceremony from Hapur on April 27, confronted Rathore on the court premises.A heated argument ensued between them when some other lawyers joined Sharma and allegedly manhandled the sub-inspector, witnesses said.Advocates also alleged that the police officer had beaten them on April 27 and that they had complained to SSP Muniraj G.Police personnel deployed at the court police outpost for security purposes intervened to bring the situation under control Tuesday afternoon.The enraged group of lawyers created a ruckus outside the outpost, the police alleged.City Superintendent of Police (first) Nipun Agarwal and ADM City Bipin Kumar reached the court compound to enquire into the matter.No FIR has been registered in this regard, Agarwal told.—PTI

GHAZIABAD : A thief was injured in a police encounter in the Rajnagar Extension area of Ghaziabad on Sunday night, said the police. The thief was shot in the leg and had been sent to the hospital.The accused had been identified as Santosh Yadav, a resident of Delhi, added the police. More than 29 cases of robbery, theft and others are registered in Ghaziabad, Noida, Delhi and Haryana, as per the police."During checking in Rajnagar Extension area at around 10.15 pm, police tried to stop a person but he tried to run away and opened fire on the police and in retaliatory firing, he was shot in the leg. He has been identified as Santosh Yadav, a resident of Delhi," said Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police. "More than 29 cases of robbery, theft and others are registered against him in Ghaziabad, Noida, Delhi &amp; Haryana. A 315 bore pistol and a stolen Scooty were recovered from his possession. Ghaziabad: Eleven-year-old Shubhi Gupta has created history of sorts by becoming the first girl from Uttar Pradesh to win the Under 12 Chess Championship trophy, that was recently held in Karnataka.The class 7 student, resident of Ghaziabad who began playing when she was in class 2 has already bagged numerous trophies and awards at state leverl inter-school chess tournaments.Shubhi clinched the MPL 34th National U-12 Girls Chess Championship 2022 held earlier in April.Seeing her growing interest in playing chess, Shubi's family started playing chess with her at home and soon she was admitted into Chess Academy. The teen often notches up high ranks in almost all the matches she plays. The champion's father Pradeep Gupta said that seeing Shubhi's growing interest the family decided to help her excel in the field. He said that her talent helped her secure medals and trophies in every match she has played. "This kept us motivated and we kept motivating Shubhi with full dedication. We are proud of our daughter for bringing laurels to the state. She is the first daughter of Uttar Pradesh who has secured the first position in the Under 12 Chess Championship held in Karnataka.The teen champion's father said that now Shubhi has set her sights on international level competitions."Soon an Under 16 Chess Championship is going to be held at the international level. Shubhi is preparing for it with full dedication. We are sure that our daughter will shine and make us and the state proud there as well," Gupta added.The teen's mother Seema said that her daughter's interest grew at a very young age but her dedication to the game has made the family proud while adding "At first I thought she is young but as she continued to bring trophies and medals, seeing her dedication, we decided to take it forward for her. Ghaziabad: A man and his two sons were allegedly shot at by their neighbours after the victim's pet dog barked at one of the perpetrators, an official said on Wednesday.The injured were identified as Sushil Kumar (40) and his two sons Aman (17) and Tarun (15).According to the official, the incident took place near the railway crossing at Manan Dham under the jurisdiction of Madhuvan Bapudham police station in Ghaziabad on Monday night.The police official said the victim's family was sleeping near the railway crossing on the day of the incident. "They already had an altercation on some issue with the accused persons and on Monday their dog barked at them which angered the assailants and they fired shots at the victim's family," the official said. The injured were rushed to the Guru Teg Bahadur hospital where they are still undergoing treatment.The official said of the three accused people, two were identified after the incident and an FIR was registered in the case. "The prime accused has been arrested while the other two are absconding," he said.Further probe is underway, the official added. —IANS
