Puducherry, April 4 (IANS) Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay is campaigning in Puducherry on Saturday, as political activity in the Union Territory reaches a fever pitch with just few days remaining for the Assembly elections.
His rally is one of the final high-profile efforts by regional leaders to mobilise voters ahead of polling day and is expected to draw large crowds, energising the party’s cadre.
Polling for all 30 Assembly constituencies is scheduled on April 9, with counting of votes on May 4. A total of 294 candidates are in the fray, actively touring constituencies and engaging with voters in a last-minute push to secure support, as prominent leaders from across the region intensify their campaigns to strengthen their parties’ prospects.
The party’s General Secretary, N. Anand, confirmed the development through an official post on the party’s X handle.
According to the statement, the Election Commission has granted permission for Vijay’s campaign events to be held at three locations on Saturday. The campaign will take place at Thattanchavadi Market Committee area from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by an event near Cuddalore Road Mall from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and conclude at Thavalakuppam Junction from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The party has stated that all necessary arrangements, including drinking water and medical facilities, have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the campaign. Strict guidelines issued by the Election Commission will be followed throughout the events.
As per the regulations, no vehicles, including two-wheelers, will be allowed to follow the campaign vehicle of the party leader. Additionally, the number of participants at each event has been capped at 5,000.
The party has also issued a public advisory urging vulnerable groups—including pregnant women, children, school students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities—to avoid attending the campaign gatherings in person. Instead, they have been encouraged to watch the events live through television and social media platforms.
With high-profile visits and tightly regulated campaign events, the election atmosphere in Puducherry continues to intensify in the final stretch.
