Bihar Politics in Flux: RJD MLA's Meeting with CM Sparks Speculation
RJD MLA Faisal Rahman meets Nitish Kumar, triggering fresh row

Patna, April 2 (IANS) A fresh round of political speculation has emerged in Bihar after RJD MLA Faisal Rahman met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday, days after abstaining from voting in the Rajya Sabha elections held on March 16.

Rahman, who represents the Dhaka constituency, was among the legislators whose absence proved crucial, as the RJD candidate lost the election.

Apart from him, three Congress MLAs had also abstained, impacting the final outcome.

Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Rahman described it as a “courtesy visit” focused on development issues in his constituency.

He stated that discussions were held on key sectors, including roads, healthcare, education, irrigation, and basic infrastructure.

According to him, the Chief Minister gave positive assurances on the proposals and reiterated the government’s commitment to regional development.

The meeting has sparked political chatter, especially since the RJD has yet to take disciplinary action against Rahman.

Similarly, the Congress has indicated possible action against its rebel MLAs, but no formal complaint has been submitted to the Assembly Speaker so far.

Adding to the intrigue, one of the rebel Congress MLAs had recently met Rural Works Minister Ashok Choudhary, claiming the interaction was also related to development works in his constituency.

Political observers believe that such engagements have heightened the political temperature at a time when government formation dynamics in the state remain fluid.

Despite the controversy, both Faisal Rahman and Congress MLA Manohar Prasad Singh—who also abstained during the Rajya Sabha polls—have been appointed as chairpersons of legislative committees.

The developments have raised questions about internal party discipline and the broader political strategy of opposition parties, particularly the RJD led by Tejashwi Yadav.

Sources have said that RJD is not taking action against Rahman as Tejashwi Yadav may lose the post of the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly.

At present, RJD has 25 MLAs in the Bihar Assembly.

With the party holding limited strength in the Assembly, any further defection could have significant implications for its leadership position.
