Dibrugarh, April 2 (IANS) The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban), a flagship scheme of the Modi government to meet the housing needs of lakhs of underprivileged citizens, is bringing positive changes in the lives of many families in rural and urban areas.
The scheme has achieved remarkable results in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, with many beneficiaries receiving houses and now living a dignified, respectable life.
A couple of beneficiaries like Bhola Das, Dino Mandal, and Shyamal Das shared their stories of transformation under the Central scheme, narrating their upward journey from makeshift (kuccha) residences to pucca houses.
One of the beneficiaries recounted that they previously lived in temporary (kutcha) houses and faced significant hardships, particularly during the rainy season.
Sharing the daily travails, he narrated, “Water would leak into their homes, making it difficult to sleep through the night. The children, too, faced considerable difficulties.”
All of them expressed gratitude to PM Modi and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for the financial assistance received under PMAY, which enabled them to construct permanent homes.
Today, having benefited from this scheme, they are living a safe and comfortable life with their families.
Another beneficiary, thanking the government, stated that this scheme has given them the opportunity to live with dignity. They built their own home and have now been living in improved conditions for the past two years.
He noted that, while there were significant difficulties with accommodation in the past, the acquisition of a permanent house has now ensured that all their basic needs are met.
He also extended gratitude to the Assam CM, under whose leadership the scheme is being effectively implemented across the state.
Another beneficiary, looking joyous, remarked, "We have witnessed with our own eyes how the dream of moving from a temporary house to a permanent one becomes a reality."
Recalling the hardships of staying in kuccha houses, he stated, "Since PM Modi has provided us with a home, we are living comfortably with our family."
