Sultanpur: The Sultanpur police have arrested the owner of a tent house along with his two brothers for the alleged murder of a woman and her 21-year-old daughter.The three brothers have been identified as Irfan (tent house owner), Sadan and Shehzad. The deceased have been identified as Shakuntala, 40, along with her daughter Vijay Laxmi.The mother-daughter duo were found murdered in their house on June 29.The police have also recovered a machete used in the murder.Sultanpur Superintendent of Police (SP), Somen Barma said on Monday that Shakuntala, whose husband is a vegetable vendor, did not have money to fulfil her daily needs."Irfan became friendly with the woman and started spending a lot of money on her. He would take her for ride in his luxury car. Then he met her 21-year-old daughter and asked the mother to let her be with him. The daughter turned down his proposal and this strained the relationship between the mother and Irfan," the SP added.The police official said that Irfan along with his two brothers planned to kill the mother and daughter.On June 29, Irfan along with his two brothers entered the residence of the woman while her husband was away and asked Sadan to stand guard outside."I tried to persuade Shakuntala to get me married to Vijay Laxmi and even agreed to pay for her studies and pamper her with all the luxuries, but she was defiant," Irfan told police during the interrogation. "Upset at the rejection, I demanded all my money back from Shakuntala which led to a brawl. In a fit of rage, I took out the machete and slit her neck. Thereafter, we held Vijay Laxmi who began screaming and killed her, too, before we fled," Irfan added.Irfan's call details revealed that more than 500 calls were exchanged between him and Shakuntala. —IANS

Lucknow: In another case of loan app harassment in the city in less than a week, a woman was asked to pay Rs 5,000 in the name of a loan she never applied for.The representatives of the firm also circulated her morphed obscene pictures. The woman, 36, who works in a multinational company, has lodged an FIR in the case.She said that she inadvertently clicked on a link which she got on WhatsApp. The link redirected her to a mobile app, Focus Loan, which claimed to offer instant loans. She said the app got downloaded on her phone and mentioned her details. Though she did not sign any agreement or apply for a loan, her bank account was credited with Rs 2,700. Later, on June 14, she found that her account showed a loan of Rs 5,000."Sensing foul, I immediately transferred Rs 2,700 to the account from which the money was credited to my account. However, a loan of Rs 2,300 still showed in my account and I started getting messages for payment. I again paid Rs 2,300 on June 18 thinking that the loan will close," the complainant said. "However, the miscreants started sending obscene messages to me. They procured my photographs which they morphed to look obscene and sent them to me and my acquaintances. After this, the miscreants started demanding more money," she said. SP, cyber cell, Triveni Singh said on Monday that they had received over a dozen similar complaints. "When these apps are downloaded, they get access to your contacts, video and photo gallery. Once the access is given, you have to share your PAN card and Aadhaar details. As soon as the documents are shared, you are given Rs 3,000 and if you pay within a week and keep the loan rolling, the amount can go up to Rs 8,000 per week," he said. "If a person fails to pay, the app managers who get access to photographs and contacts, send morphed images to contacts through WhatsApp," he said. —IANS

Lucknow: The National Commission of Women (NCW) has written a letter to the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh seeking action against Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav for his tweet against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma.Taking suo moto cognisance of Akhilesh's tweet on July 1, the NCW has asked the state government to initiate action against the SP leader under the relevant provisions of law. The NCW has also asked the state government to inform it of the action taken within three days. Akhilesh had tweeted that "not only the face but body should also apologise and punitive action should be taken for attempting to disturb harmony and peace in the country". His comment referred to the top court saying "Nupur Sharma should have apologised to the nation". —IANS

Ayodhya: A student of class 12 was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police in Ayodhya on Sunday for allegedly murdering his teacher. According to Police, the arrested boy was in a love relationship with the deceased. "A class 12 boy was arrested for murdering his teacher. He was identified in CCTV footage and his t-shirt was used to nab him," said AP Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Ayodhya."The arrested boy was in a relationship with the victim teacher. He wanted to get out of the relationship as he was scared of getting exposed. The teacher used to threaten him by making insulting revelations about him. That is why, he murdered her," added the official.The investigation is underway. Further details are awaited.&nbsp;—ANI

Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh): After a Delhi court on Saturday dismissed the bail application of Alt news co-founder Mohammed Zubair who was arrested in a case related to an alleged objectionable tweet, Zubair was taken to Sitapur in connection with a case registered against him here for allegedly inflaming religious sentiments through his tweet on three persons, said the officials on Monday.The tweet targeted Mahant Bajrang Muni, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati and Swami Anand Swaroop and termed the trio as "spreaders of hatred."The case was based on the complaint of Bhagwan Sharan, the district president of Hindu Sher Sena.Zubair has been booked under sections 295A and 67 of IPC. The complaint against the Alt-News co-founder was registered on June 1.Zubair was first arrested on June 27, after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him based on a Twitter posting, which another Twitter handle alleged "hurt Hindu sentiments.""The said post of Mohd. Zubair containing pictures and words against a particular religious community are highly provocative and done deliberately which are more than sufficient to incite hatred among people which can be detrimental for the maintenance of public tranquillity," the Delhi Police said in a statement.The contentious tweet by Zubair was posted in March 2018.The court on Saturday sent Mohd Zubair to 14-day judicial custody.Delhi police on Saturday said Pravada media received donations from foreign countries including Pakistan and the accused is the director of that company.Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria dismissed the bail petition after hearing the submission of the defence counsel and special public prosecutor (SPP) Atul Srivastava.The court observed in the order that since the investigation is at the initial stage and in view of the circumstances and gravity of the offence, no ground is made out for bail. Application dismissed and the accused is remanded to judicial custody till July 16, 2022.Delhi police had sought judicial custody of Mohd Zubair. He was produced before the court after four days of police custody. He was arrested on June 27, 2022.SPP Atul Srivastava submitted that three new sections for the destruction of evidence, criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulations) Act have been added to the FIR.It is alleged by police that the accused received donations from foreign countries namely Pakistan, Syria, Australia and Middle Eastern countries. This is to be investigated.In this connection, Section 35 of the Foreign Contributions Regulations Act has been invoked in the FIR.Police alleged that the evidence was destroyed by deleting the data by formatting the phone. It is also alleged there is a conspiracy on the part of the accused.On the other hand, Advocate Vrinda Grover opposed the judicial custody remand application. Counsel pressed the bail application saying that this is malicious prosecution and with mala fide intention. The entire exercise is mala fide in nature.She raised a question, "Is it a crime to change a sim card, is it a crime to reformat the phone?""They have my phone, now the whole exercise is for my laptop. This is a phishing and roving inquiry. They have recovered my laptop from my home in Bangaluru. It is quite surprising that they did not take any technical person with them to Bangaluru," Mohd Zubair said in his plea.Advocate Grover submitted that the article seized were not sealed. Data integrity has to be protected. It can be manipulated. The hash value is not given to date, there is a likelihood of tampering and manipulation which would attract new sections to the petitioner.Mohd Zubair said in his plea said that the alleged tweet of 24 March 2018 was made from a phone and he had lodged a complaint in 2021 that his phone was snatched.Advocate Grover argued that Delhi Police registered this case on the basis of a Twitter handle that is anonymous and was started in October 2021. The handle pull out Mohd Zubair's tweet of 2018 and Delhi Police found the retweet made by this Twitter handle."Do they want to create communal disharmony?" Vrinda Grover raised a question."Actually it is you (Delhi police) who want to create a problem. We have the right. We have freedom. We live in a constitutional democracy. Section 295 A required a deliberate attempt. My tweet is not related to any religion or any god," the counsel argued."You did not ask me to bring any phone neither it was summoned. It was my private property and I have every right to format it. It does not cast any person unless it is a case property. Section 201 attracts when there is the destruction of evidence. My phone was not a case property. The conspiracy-related section cannot be invoked as I am the only accused in this case," defence counsel argued.It was argued by Advocate Grover that invocation of section 35 is a practice to prejudice the case.She argued that the Police informed the media that there are many transactions from foreign countries and that Pravada media received money from foreign countries.The maximum punishment is 5 years and bail is a rule not jail. All the tweets are there, all other sociopath tweet handles are there, and nobody is interrogated. This court is to guard the right of the accused. The supreme court has directed to do so, the defence counsel argued. (ANI)

Kanpur: A Pakistani national has been booked for overstaying in India. According to the Kanpur police, one Alam Chand, a citizen of Pakistan, came to Kanpur in 1990 on a term visa and then settled here with his family. Although Chand claimed that he had legally obtained Indian citizenship in 2013, police said that the matter will be investigated. A complaint against Alam Chand was filed by one Alok Kumar, who claimed that Chand had illegally obtained Indian identity cards, like PAN and Aadhaar, and stayed on. Chand's son is in the Indian Air Force while the other son works in the education department. Alok Kumar said that he had informed the police several times but no action was taken. After this, he filed a petition in the court for the registration of an FIR. The court took cognizance of the matter and ordered the police to investigate the matter. In the initial investigation, the police found all the allegations to be true. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Manish Sonkar, after the order of the court, said that the case of a Pakistani national hiding and committing fraud has come to his knowledge."Police have initiated an investigation in this matter. Other investigating agencies have also been informed about the matter and based on the investigation, further action will be taken in this regard," he said. —IANS

Varanasi: The Varanasi court on Monday adjourned till July 12 hearing in the Gyanvapi case.Advocate Abhay Nath Yadav, representing the Muslim side, has presented 47 arguments out of 51 in the court. The lawyer has to present five more arguments and it is expected that the remaining argument will be completed on Tuesday.The lawyers representing the Muslim side took the court through arguments on the history of the area since 1669. Legal issues were raised and cases were moved in the pre and post-independence years. The Muslim side is arguing on all the cases and issues related to Gyanvapi Mosque from 1669.A list of around 40 persons, including lawyers and litigants, permitted to enter courtroom was given to the police deployed at the scene. No other person is being allowed entry. Media has also been barred from the proceedings. Advocate Vishnu Jain, representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi Masjid survey matter, said: "The Muslim side has given its arguments, date for the next hearing is July 12, keeping in mind everyone's convenience. The Muslim side to keep its arguments on law-point in front of the court then."On May 30, the district court deferred the hearing on the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee's plea challenging the maintainability of a suit filed by Hindu women till July 4, according to a lawyer representing the petitioner women. Advocate appearing for Anjuman Intezamia Masjid had cited various judgements to support his argument that the maintainability of a suit filed by Hindu women is barred by the Places of Worship Act. —IANS

Even after the Assembly elections, the BJP had won the two Lok Sabha bypolls and also got a majority in the Vidhan Parishad elections."The Vidhan Parishad is now 'Congress-mukt," he said.Listing the priorities of his government in the second term, the chief minister said that the priority was to make UP a one trillion-dollar economy. "For this, we have identified ten sectors and will work in a time-bound manner. Lucknow: A poster proclaiming 'House for sale' in the Natkur area in Lucknow, has started attracting a great deal of attention.The poster claims that the reason behind the 'distress sale' is the 'fear of police and anti-social elements'. The house belongs to a PAC constable, and his wife told reporters that the local police have been implicating her family in false criminal cases at the behest of some anti-social elements.The owner of the house Ramdas Prajapati, a PAC constable, is presently posted in Sitapur. "I live in this house with my two sons. Some local goons want to forcibly occupy our house and the local police are helping them by harassing us," said Pushpa, the wife of the PAC constable.Inspector in-charge of Bijnor police station, Raj Kumar, said that the PAC policeman's family gets into a brawl with neighbours almost every other day. New Delhi: An expert committee formed to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand met for the first time on Monday in Delhi's Uttarakhand Sadan.The meeting was chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai.The Uttarakhand government constituted a five-member committee to be led by former Supreme Court judge, Justice (retired) Desai, to prepare a draft proposal for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the Uttarakhand state. The committee also includes Justice Permod Kohli (retired), social activist Manu Gaur, former chief secretary Shatrughan Singh and vice-chancellor of Doon University Surekha Dangwal.After the meeting, the members of the committee are likely to meet Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who is scheduled to arrive from Hyderabad in the national capital today.The Uttarakhand government on May 27 announced its decision to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state."We have taken a decision to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state. Uttarakhand will be the second state after Goa to implement this," Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said earlier."We will bring UCC for the people irrespective of them being from any religion and section of the society," Dhami had assured.Earlier on May 2, Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur also announced that the UCC will be brought into the state soon.However, a debate over the UCC has sparked in several states of the country, recently Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also backed it by saying that the UCC should be implemented in the greater interest of Muslim women otherwise polygamy would continue.Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) termed it 'an unconstitutional and anti-minorities move', and called the rhetoric for bringing the law an attempt by Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Central governments to divert the attention from the concerns of inflation, economy, and rising unemployment.Notably, in Bharatiya Janata Party's 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto, BJP promised the implementation of UCC if it comes to power. —ANI

For the purposes of the Ranking, States and Union Territories are classified into 5 Categories, viz. Best Performers, Top Performers, Leaders, Aspiring Leaders and Emerging Start-up Ecosystems.Gujarat and Karnataka emerged as the Best Performers in a category of States which included NCT of Delhi. Meghalaya won the top honour among UTs and North-eastern (NE) States. While Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa and Telangana got the Top Performers award among states, Jammu &amp; Kashmir emerged as the Top Performer among UTs and NE states.Assam, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh were adjudged the winners in the Leaders category among states; Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Goa bagged the Leaders honour among the UTs and NE states. Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were declared as Aspiring Leaders among the States. Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli &amp; Daman and Diu, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Puducherry and Tripura were the Aspiring Leaders from the UTs and NE states. In the next 5 year, we will have ONDC democratize the e-commerce across India. So much so that we will have a few thousand start-ups may be more and a few hundred unicorns. Rather than three companies being 100 billion or one trillion size, you will have a thousand companies each of a billion dollar. That is what ONDC has the power to do,” the Minister said.Emphasizing that Indian ecosystem could become the best in the work, Shri Goyal suggested that States could align with neighbouring ones so as to learn from each other. He also asked the department to get more start-ups on the Government E-Marketplace (GeM), saying that now even the Services had been brought under GeM.Shri Goyal suggested that there was a need to focus on developing start-up ecosystem in districts with help of all the start-up related schemes by the central and the state government. He emphasized upon the need to onboard and register more start-ups. He added that there was a great opportunity to democratize the start-up ecosystem in the same way as the Indian Premier League (IPL) democratized the cricket arena.The minister appreciated the new mentorship program and said that it would help those with ideas to get support and help them fructify their ideas.Shri Anurag Jain, Secretary, DPIIT said that a number of initiatives of the government including JAM (Jandhan, Aadhar, Mobile), Digital India, Gatishakti, Ease of Doing Business were driving the start-up ecosystem. “If the Start-up system has to grow further, the biggest role has to be played by States. We can play a facilitative role,” he added.Shri Manoj Kohli, Member, National Start-up Advisory Council the new coaching/mentoring programme MAARG (Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience and Growth) would focus on creating profitable start-ups, improving their corporate governance, scaling up their operations, addressing funding gaps and building their brand. This, he said would improve their success rate.The call for mentors for MAARG portal was also announced during the event. The portal is developed with the idea to develop a tool for start-ups in India that can be accessed from every corner of the country to request and connect with a mentor. Smt. Shruti Singh, Joint Secretary, DPIIT said that the start-up ecosystem has come a long way with States playing a big role. “Today, States have vibrant ecosystem with 27 states having their portals in regional languages,” she added.The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has been conducting the States’ Start-up Ranking Exercise since 2018 to facilitate the ease of building a start-up and doing business across the country. The exercise has grown in its impact over the last three editions, with 31 participating states and union territories this edition, the highest till date. The State Start-up Ranking Exercise aims to support states and union territories in developing their start-up ecosystem and learn from the best practices in each state and union territory.The consideration period for the third edition of the States Startup Ranking Exercise was 1st October 2019 to 31st July 2021. The documentary evidence submitted was evaluated over a 6-month duration. The evaluation committee across 14 meetings assessed each document and was composed of representatives from 19 government departments and 29 non-government startup ecosystem stakeholders, for fair and transparent evaluation.The participants were evaluated across 7 broad Reform Areas consisting of 26 Action Points ranging from Institutional Support, Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Access to Market, Incubation support, Funding Support, Mentorship Support to Capacity Building of Enablers. The exercise plays a crucial role in easing the business environment for start-ups in the country.The States Startup Ranking 2021 highlighted the support being extended by over 30 states and union territories through startup policies to the ecosystem. There were only 4 states with startup policies prior to 2016. The state startup teams have been extending support across mentorship, incubation and funding. Moreover, feedback was gathered from more than 7,000 beneficiaries through surveys made in 13 different languages to grasp the real situation at the execution level.The States and Union Territories have been placed alphabetically within each category. Additionally, in each reform area, the states who are recognized as Leaders for their exceptional work in the particular reform area are also shared.The felicitation ceremony was accompanied by the release of the National Report which highlights the vision, framework, evolution across the years, methodology and implementation, and the way ahead for the States` Startup Ranking. A State Specific Report for each of the 31 participating States and Union Territories has also been released, containing an extensive analysis of respective ecosystem, which highlights strengths and priority areas for future.The National Report and Specific Reports for all participating States and Union Territories launched during the session can be downloaded from the Startup India Portal. Jammu : &nbsp;A low-intensity earthquake of magnitude 3.2 hit Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday but there were no reports of any damage, officials said. The quake struck at 12.12 pm in Doda area of the Union Territory, the officials said. They said its epicenter was at a latitude of 33.12 degrees north and longitude of 75.55 degrees east at a depth of 5 km. There have been no reports of any loss of life or damage to any property so far due to the tremor, the officials said. (PTI)

I will file a criminal case against the SDO of the area," Yadav said.Meanwhile, Patna DM Chandrashekher Singh said: "We have imposed Section 144 in the area and are taking action against those assembled in a group of 5 persons. Some of them violated the rule in the morning. We have done the photography and taken action against them after identification.""So far, 26 violators have been arrested. We will also take action against those who are behind this. WhatsApp groups are also under the radar. The demolition drive is going in 40 acres of land. They have no documents," Singh said. Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi and handed over his resignation letter to him."Today, I have submitted my resignation letter as MP, Rajya Sabha to the Hon'ble Vice President of India Shri M. Shimla/Manali :&nbsp;Twelve passengers were killed and three others injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Monday, officials said.						 Initial reports had put the death toll at 16.The bus was on its way to Kullu from Shainsher when it fell into the gorge at a hairpin bend near Jangla village around 8.30 am, the officials said.Dead Jhablu Devi's brother-in-law Tej Prakash alleged callous attitude on the part of the authorities in rescuing the victims."It took almost three hours to take Jhablu Devi from the accident site to the hospital. Had the administration acted swiftly, some lives could have been saved," he said.The dead have been identified as Tanu, Prem Chand, Fateh Chand, Anita Devi, Susheel Kumar, Khim Dasi, Roshi Devi, Parvati Devi, Jhablu Devi, Amit Kumar Rajak, Aaksh and Rakhi Maya.Injured Mahender Singh, Sanjay Kumar and bus conductor Gopal have been admitted to the Kullu regional hospital for treatment. The president and the prime minister have condoled the loss of lives in the accident.President Ram Nath Kovind said he was distressed to learn about the death of students and other people in the accident.Condoling the loss of lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who died. The injured will be given Rs 50,000 each, the Prime Minister's Office said in a tweet.Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also expressed grief over the tragic bus accident.Thakur said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered and the Kullu ADM will probe the whole incident. The CM said Rs 5 lakh will be provided to the next of the kin of the each dead whereas Rs 15,000 will be provided as immediate relief to the each injured. He said free treatment will also be given to the injured persons. Thakur thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the each dead and Rs 50,000 for the each injured. (PTI)
