Heavy morning rain in Delhi-NCR disrupts traffic, causes waterlogging in many areas

New Delhi: Heavy rain lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region on Thursday morning, leading to traffic snarls and waterlogging in several areas. The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain at some places in Delhi till Friday.

The rain started around 7 am on Thursday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 31 and 26 degrees Celsius.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories for some waterlogged localities, including Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Karkardooma, Ali Village, Mayapuri Chowk, Pushta Road, Ghazipur, Modi Mill flyover and Minto Road. Vehicular movement was affected between Sarai Kale Khan and Nizamuddin railway station due to waterlogging, the traffic police said.
Waterlogging was also reported from Ghaziabad and Noida. A road caved in in Vasundhara locality of Ghaziabad, ANI reported. Some residents also complained of power cuts in their localities, which the electricity supplier BSES said were due to heavy rain and waterlogging.
"The sky will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day," an official of the India Meteorological Department told The Times of India. "There is possibility of scattered showers in most parts of the National Capital Territory."
