Congress district president Kaushal Mishra said that local BJP leaders and workers are behind this. In Yogi Raj every government building is being painted in saffron colour. The ruling party workers have not even spared Father of Nation and had painted his statue in saffron colour. This is disgraceful", he said and asked: "Have you ever seen Mahatma's statue in saffron colour."
The Congress has lodged a complaint with the administration.

The principal of the school had painted Mahatama Gandhi's statue in saffron colour in 2015. May be someone has given a new coat of saffron to the statue because Independence Day is round the cornor, she said.
This is not the first time when the statues of leaders were given saffron hue. Budaun district was recently in news when Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar's statue was painted in saffron and after media highlighted this, the district administration painted it back in blue. The Ambedkar's statue are always in blue in colour – considered the colour of Bahujan Samaj – which was later adopted by the Bahujan Samaj Party. UNI
