Jammu and Kashmir police arrested two drug smugglers and recovered about three kgs charas in north Kashmir, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.
He said police across the Kashmir valley has continued its war against the drug menace and achieved major success with the active cooperation of citizens.
He said a police party of Police Station Tarzoo, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (SP) Hqrs Sopore, apprehended a drug peddler identified as Altaf Ahmad Wani, resident of Tarzoo and recovered 1,200 grams of Charas powder from his possession.
In this regard, case FIR No. 27/2018 under section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Tarzoo. It has been found that the accused is a chronic drug peddler of the area and was selling Charas powder among the youth of Sopore at the handsome amount.
SSP, Sopore, Harmeet Singh Mehta has appealed to general public, particularly of town to keep an eye on the elements who are supplying these narcotic materials to youths and provide information to police in order to help the police to eradicate the drug menace from Sopore.
He said on a specific information, a special police squad of Police Station Qalamabad searched the house of Mohammad Altaf Sofi, resident of Chontipura, and subsequently on the disclosure of the accused, 1500 grams of the contraband was recovered from the kitchen of the his house.
A case FIR No 24/2018 under section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qalamabad and investigation set into motion.
