New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday paid rich tributes to freedom fighter Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant here on his 131birth anniversary here.
Former vice-president Hamid Ansari and senior BJP leader LK Advani were the prominent persons who garlanded the statue and paid floral tributes to Pandit Pant at this occasion.
In a written message to the organising committee, President Ram Nath Kovind while paying tribute to the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said, "Pandit GB Pant played a pivotal role in laying the foundation of the Nation during the 'Freedom Movement', as the first premier of the United Provinces, as the Chief Minister of UP and as a Union Home Minister. His dedication to the nation and exemplary leadership is an example for us to follow".
Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu in his message said, 'Pandit Pant was a crusader for the cause of the downtrodden and poor section of the society".
"On his birth anniversary let all pay homage to his indomitable leadership and selfless dedication for the Nation", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his message to the organising committee.
The commemorative function was organised near the statue of Pandit Pant's Statue near Parliament House where many dignitaries of the city along with school children were present.
