Vijayawada: BJP Andhra Pradesh Unit President Kanna Lakshminarayana said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had never assured to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to the state
Addressing party workers programme here on Sunday, he said that the Centre had announced a Special Package instead of SCS as per Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's wish. Mr Naidu did not raise the SCS issue as long as the TDP was in the NDA, but he had taken "U" turn now and demanding now for the SCS, he said.
Mr Lakshminarayana exhibited Mr Naidu's statements in TV screens in the auditorium in which the Chief Minister was seen stating that SCS was not a panacea and state would get benefits with the Special Package.
He alleged that the Centre is extending funds for the construction of Polavaram project but the TDP government is indulging in corrupt practices in the project.
Mr Naidu has owned the Central government sponsored schemes and claiming the credit, he also alleged.
"I do not understand why the Congress party extended its support to the no-confidence motion, moved by the TDP. Has the Congress leaders not known about the massive corruption being taken place in AP ?. The TDP moved the no-trust motion only to divert the attention from the corruption" he remarked.
The BJP president said Mr Modi had reached the Prime Minister's post from a normal stage. Since he had become a strong leader in the country, the opposition parties are getting united, he criticised.
Mr Lakshminarayana reminded that the TDP leaders felicitated M Venkaiah Naidu for getting Special Package. He also recalled that the Chief Minister held a press conference in the midnight, welcomed the granting of Special Package instead of SCS and thanked Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
