SYL Canal Should Not Be Politicised: Haryana CM

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal today said the issue of Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal should not be politicised as the Supreme Court has given its decision in favour of Haryana and regular hearing was being conducted in the case. Mr Lal, who was replying to the questions of mediapersons, was asked to comment on the issue of SYL canal. He said that an all-party delegation led by him had called on President Pranab Mukherjee on this issue. The Supreme Court has already repealed the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act, 2004 passed by Punjab Vidhan Sabha and now the matter was pending with the Supreme Court for implementation. He said that a request has been made for early decision in the case. Though the SYL issue was sub-judice, Haryana should get its due share of water. He was quite hopeful that the state would get its rightful share. Asked about law and order situation in his state, the Chief Minister said besides making an appeal to the people, the other political parties have also been asked not to take law in their own hands. "Though this issue is related to Punjab Government yet I believe that peace will prevail in the state," he said. On redressal of grievances of the people at his residence here, the Chief Minister said delegations of people were given opportunity to see him every fortnight, generally on Wednesdays, and officers concerned also remained present on such occasions. While a few grievances were redressed on the spot, the remaining were disposed off after due consideration. The people were also informed in detail about the cases which were pending in the courts.
