Curfew-like restrictions in SeK, downtown, parts of civil lines in Srinagar

Curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), downtown and parts of old city and civil lines in Srinagar to prevent any law and order problem following a strike called by a faction of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and traders against death of civilians in Shopian and Ganderbal districts in security force action.
This is the third time restrictions were imposed in the down town and SeK during April as precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik, have asked people to hold protests in their respective areas after Friday prayers against the brutality.
Meanwhile, all gates of historic Jamia Masjid, stronghold of Mirwaiz Moulvi, who is under house arrest since Monday, have been closed to prevent any demonstration after Friday prayers against the Shopian and Ganderbal killings. Four civilians were killed in south Kashmir and another in Ganderbal in central valley and over 40 others injured in security force action on demonstrators who took to the streets after the killing of 13 militants, including top commanders in three different encounters on Sunday. Three soldiers were also martyred and several others wounded in encounters on Sunday in south Kashmir.
The main gates of historic Jamia Masjid, stronghold of chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC), Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, have been closed to foil any demonstration.
Police said restrictions under section 144 CrPC have been imposed in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of police station M R Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Khanyar and Rainwari in the downtown and SeK. Restrictions have also been imposed in parts of areas under police station of Maisuma in civil lines and Kralkhud in old city.
However, the situation on the ground was entirely different as security forces and state police personnel deployed in the downtown and SeK were directing people to remain indoors. The entire Nallahmar road, which otherwise remains busy, has been closed for traffic or pedestrian movement. Security forces have closed the road with barbed wire and by parking bullet proof vehicles in the middle at different places, including Tarabal, Nawa Kadal, Kawdara, Rajouri Kadal, Ali Kadal and Khanyar.
People in these areas alleged that they were not being allowed to move out of their houses by the security forces deployed after every ten feet. The milkmen and vegetable sellers could not come from outskirts and local bread makers also could not open their shops due to restrictions.
However, the road to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) from Safa Kadal via Eidgah was open though medical staff and patients only were being allowed to move.
All roads leading to Jamia Masjid were closed at Rangar stop, Nowhatta and Hawal to prevent people from assembling and holding protests at worship place.
Similar restrictions were imposed in parts of Kralkhud and Maisuma. Additional security forces and state police personnel have been deployed in the civil lines and uptown to prevent any untoward incident. UNI
