Fuzhou (China): Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal bowed out of the first round while Rio Olympics Silver medalist PV Sindhu cruised through first round in the women's singles category at the China Open badminton tournament at the Haixia Olympic Sport Center here today.
Sindhu steamrolled into the pre-quarters after defeating Chia Hsin Lee of Chinese Taipei by 21-12, 21-16 in the round of 32. She has been scheduled to face Beiwen Zhang of Singapore.
Saina Nehwal crashed out after an arduous fight against Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand. Porntip dictated the terms in the final round to seal the match by 21-16, 19-21, 21-14.
In the men's singles category HS Prannoy defeated Ka Long Angus Ng of Hong Kong by 21-13, 21-13 while Ajay Jayaram clinched a thriller against Zhu Siyuan of China by 21-19, 20-22, 21-17.
B Sai Praneeth lost to Marc Zwiebler of Germany in the first round by 16-21, 9-21.
