Reuters File photo Not new trains but steps for better services in existing ones, refund on confirmed Tatkal tickets and cleanliness on long distance services are among the wish list of passengers from the Railway Budget, according to an opinion poll. Quality of food and easy Tatkal ticket reservation are other areas for improvement highlighted by those surveyed by Todays Chanakya, known for its almost exact predictions. The survey was conducted among 6,854 people, who have travelled minimum three return journeys in train in the last one year out of which one journey was of minimum 1,000 km, between February 1 and 14. Those respondents belonged to 17 states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Seventy-four per cent of the respondents preferred better services in existing system rather than announcing new trains in the budget to be presented by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on February 26. Majority of the passengers (73 per cent) felt that there should be a refund for cancelling Tatkal tickets. Providing some refund against confirmed Tatkal tickets when cancelled, will encourage passengers to cancel their Tatkal tickets in case of any change in programme, making way for needy waitlisted Tatkal passengers, the pollster suggested.
