New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasim Zaidi on Wednesday said that they had not received official proposal regarding merger of Janata Parivar. However, he added that they could look into party symbol, name and so on, once we receive official request or proposal on merger. Talking about the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls he said, Tenure of present Assembly is getting over on November 29, we will complete election process before that, as per ANI. We'll take into view festivals, holidays while finalizing the schedule. Political parties will be also be consulted, Zaidi added. We will put into use, VVPAT (Voter-verifiable paper audit trail) in 36 Assembly constituencies. Around 10000 VVPAT will be used, the CEC revealed. Zaidi had said on May 17 that Assembly elections in Bihar were likely to be held sometime in September-October when extensive central forces and a reworked expenditure monitoring system would be deployed to curb money and muscle power. The electoral rolls will be ready on July 31, the CEC had said, terming the polls in Bihar as "mother of all elections". Going by precedents, the election timings would be somewhere in September or October, he had said, adding that they were yet to begin the process on finalising a schedule. "Abuse of money is a big problem in Bihar. Therefore, this time we are going in for more systematic efforts. Certain legal amendments are yet to come from the Law Ministry. But within our powers, we have launched expenditure monitoring," he had told PTI. He had also clarified that EC had undertaken mapping of all constituencies of Bihar into three categories and where the poll panel would find maximum sensitivity, it would deploy central police forces "well in time."
