Kolkata: The Rabindra Bharati University has decided to confer D. Litt to matinee idol Amitabh Bachchan for his contribution in the field of arts and cinema industry.
The city based prestigious educational institution will honour the Bollywood superstar at its its 43rd convocation on May 8, 2018.
The Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) authorities had sent all four nominations - Amitabh Bachchan, Amiya Ranjan Banerjee, Nobonita Debsen and and Jatin Das- to the Chancellor Kesri Nath Tripathi, the Governor of West Bengal, and all the names got his approval.
RBU vice-chancellor Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury said the executive council had recommended the name of Amitabh Bachchan and three others for the chancellor's approval.
Interestingly, Allahabad born 75-year-old actor Amitabh Bachchan, who gained his popularity in the early 1970s for films such as Zanjeer, Deewaar, and Sholay, began his professional career in then Calcutta before turning to the cinema industry.' He is also called Jamai of Bengal after his marriage with Jaya Bhaduri.
